This technology seems very cool. And as far as I have seen, there isn't any need for the hate against Dish Network. The customer service has been good whenever I used it.
I've had the 922 since September and it is freaking awesome. I can use my laptop to view my TV or DVR recorded shows whenever I travel, for work or pleasure. In addition, my Droid X works great through the Dish Remote Access (Sling); no 3rd party apps required.
Important: the Dish 922 SlingLoaded DVR has the worst DVR menus imaginable. Press the DVR remote button and you get an array of folder icons by Title or Theme; select the correct icon and you get another array with icons for each recorded program, with only title (ex: College Football) and date of the recording; hover over the icon and you get a full title (ex: Big 12 Championship: Nebraska vs. Oklahoma) and description. An EXTREMELY TEDIOUS search. Probably designed by liberal arts major.
@Sherlmitz I have not gotten it yet. I'm still very interested in the Sling tech, especially not that I have a Droid that could stream it. But I have been put off by so many reports of buggy software on the 922.
BTW guys , just to share this good news for those techy dish customers, if you have VIP722 or VIP722k DVR receiver, you can purchase the new top of the line equipment called SLING ADAPTER which is just $99 (plus taxes). Just hook this up either on the front or the back of the DVR rcvr plus the rcvr needs to be plugged into a high speed internet connection. This will help you to watch TV online & manage your DVR recordings & stuffs. & if you will think about it, this is much cheaper than the 922.
Do not deal with Directv. They told us if we switched back to them from Dish, that they would only charge us $24.99/mo for four rooms, for one year. The first bill was for $42.49, the second was for $66.94. The next if I read it right will be for $84.98.
@wazzumichael Really? What exactly do I need to work on? You should have seen me 3 years ago, wow. Sorry that my appearance hurt you to look at. I'll try to be more considerate in the future. Thanks for watching the video! :)
the upgrade cost to lease it is, I believe, $400. On the other hand, you can purchase the top-of-line HD Pro Slingbox for $300, or the basic Solo unit for $200. What you won't get, though, is the enormous hard drive that's in the 922. If you really need that much storage, you could instead use an external hard drive with any of the other Dish HD DVRs.
@jagawaya just letting to know, it depends on each customer how much an upgrade is all depends on what kind of a account you have but it can run, $200 to $400, new Customers it is $200. I am getting mine installed next Saturday!!! New employee at DISH Network, saw at work, looks great!
This baby is starting to give off the stench of vaporware. Fourteen months to get the bugs out and it will be outdated before it ever hits the street.
I remember this being shown off at LAST year's CES and thinking it looked pretty promising and thought about waiting for one. But then I remembered the glacial pace at which other Dish hardware updates have rolled out and thought better of it. Looks like I made the right choice.
I am a Dish tech, and Dish Network is far(!) from perfect. You'd be surprised on what you could find out about the company and how it is ran. Not the "oh so happy" face everyone sees. 922 will have a lot of bugs when it comes out. I was one of the 'beta testers' at my office.
I used the vip 922. ITs so great. The remote blew my mind. It has a mouse pad.. Well, its kinda like a laptop 'scroll touch' surface. Full internet browser, u can download and use apps.. The only time dish raises prices is in feb. Usally a dollar, somtimes the price drop on things, and programming is added or removed. But other than that, im an employee at dish, and have time warner, dish prices suck and got the whole contract thing.. But this recvr is amazing,
everybody raises their f**king prices not just dish network, dish is good service, good price, the problem is that people want everything for free, and cant accept that we are no longer 10yrs ago, instead people should try findind a f**king career to have enough money to keep up with rising prices.
I work in the industry and can tell you that the 922 beta testing surveys just ended. while the 922 is a cool piece of technology it is absolutely RIDDLED with bugs at this point. The word from the horse's mouth is that there is no release dt and that it will be available when all of these bugs are solved. This is NOT official, but my personal inclination is that the 922 will be out and about on the market in early 2010. That being said, I'm a beta tester and can tell you the thing is awesome.
That has not been my experience. In fact, Dish has treated me very well, even grandfathering me into deals longer than they would have to. And they have always been willing to work with me when I talk to customer service. Just my experience.
ANY television company raises their rates after your promotion is up. But Dish does give you a lower rate than DirecTV or Comcast. BTW I'm a Dish Technician, and I have had the pleasure of messing around with a 922s. I have pics of the new remote for the 922s but I don't wanna lose my job over showing you guys :P. Lemme just say its gonna blow your mind!!!
Dish raises rates rates in the middle of a contract. If you read their contract carefully you will see that they reserve the right to change in of the terms of the contact at any time and they do. For me personally after 9months in a contact they raised their rates from $50 to $70. BEWARE!!!!!!!!! signing a contact with dish does not lock in your rate (mine went up by 40%) it only makes you committed to them and gives them the ability to charge you an early termination fee.
all companies have the right to raise prices its written in the contract.not just dish network, its called inflation.if you dont want to be on a contract then pay month to month dont go crying like a little bitch about how they raised your prices you probably dont pay attention to anything you signed or anything they tell you over the phone right.only when its more convenient to you jackass.good day to you
Im a Dish Network Customer myself and never have had Bad customer Service with them. You gotta admit not everyone or every company is Perfect but Dish network is Near perfect thats my point of view
According to who? I work Tech at dish and they haven't told me anything about a release date...
@pastordice: If youve been a dish subscriber for more than a few years and youve paid your last 12 bills on time, call up and complain to tech support enough and you can probably get a Dishin' It up to a 922 for half-off at least.

Thats the upgrade price. Actual price is undetermined. If you need OTA then a MT2 ala ViP722k/ViP222k is needed.

If you have a current ViP DVR it's only $200 with a 2 year contract.
