In some cases high density foam is used but it is highly toxic, a mentor of mine used that for the Johnny Depp movie "Dead Man" it might be on here. Overall though, poles are done in cedar and have been for centuries. It's disappearance in sparking a dilemma in our communities now, so an alternative will have to be sought at some point in the future.
