  • shawn lane's playing is more advance than the instruments of 80's hahahahaha

  • ok ok

  • I was at this show, I think? Poets Music Hall, Menphis Tn. This show was hot. I met the drummers brother and he gave me Jims phone number. I called him about doing a show at one of our regional concerts in PB Mo. He was like, how did you get my number, Ha! Very nice guy though.

  • @baddoggo lol that's awesome

  • Wow-he came a long way between the virtuosic chaos of the earlier solo from about a year before with BOA-his lines sound so much more musical and organized here. It's great to get to hear the development of his incredible talent.

  • @Gregorypeckory Yeah that's what i always thought... big difference in just that short amount of time.

  • @ 1:41 u hear that famous lick that paul gilbert adopted and got him his chops.

  • @tmh1717 PAUL GILBERT WAS GREATLY INSPIRED BY THIS SOLO.

  • this is redonkulous

  • pre Floyd Rose, and still manages to stay in tune??? What a maniac Shawn was!!!!

  • You know, when Yngwie came in, everyone acted like music had never had more than a bar of 32nd notes played consistently at a moderate tempo on any instrument, but here is shawn lane, at 17, playing way way ahead of his time, yet who got the recognition? Al Di meola was doing the same thing, even way back in 1976, and then there was also John Mclaughlin. And compoers have been writing technically demanding things for 100s of years. In any case, Shawn is the best guitarist who ever lived period.

  • maybe the world wasn't ready for them lol

  • @kklocket2

Shawn was great, but to say he is best that ever lived is just stupid...there are many guitarists that are up there. The best one for me is Allan Holdsworth but that is my subjective opinion. I wouldn't say Allan is the best - period. Like there wouldn't be room for debate.

  • I won't waste my time debating, especially over this, but let me say this: as far as ELECTRIC guitar players go, he is without a doubt in the universal top 5 of the best ELECTRIC guitar players who ever lived, and PERSONALLY, i would put him at number 1. listen to anyone of his recordings with jonas hellborg or anything on the powers of ten to hear. its quite obvious, and I think any real musician can see that. it isnt stupid, and holdsworth is truly phenomenal, but to say its stupid? its FACT.

  • @kklocket2

You say you won't waste your time debating and yet you state it as a fact. First of all I've seen both Holdsworth live and Lane + Hellborg live. Second of all I am a musician and I still think Allan has the edge even though I respect both of them very much. It's not a fact it's a matter of opinion. They are both very impressive. To say that Lane is better than Slash is a fact because they are on completely different levels.

  • Haha. Slash huh...I guess I just think its a poor opinion, which you are completely entitled to. It's poor to me, but I do respect it.

  • I can see where the keyboardist influenced shawn lane.................ALOT

  • Yes, he was way ahead of his time but just didn't get the recognition which is what happens in these cases a lot of times. You do realize that is Jim Dandy of Black Oak Arkansas introducing him? Check out Jim Dandy from the early 1970s and then check out pics of David Lee Roth.

  • If this is Jim Dandy introducing him wouldnt this be when he was with Black Oak Arkansas???

  • This was a kind of re-working of Black Oak.... they changed the band round a bit, brought in keyboards as well, but still Jim Dandy on vocals.

  • its strange because he plays a lot of neoclassical kinda phrases , and he was maybe only a couple of years younger than yngwie. how come that in the 80's everybody became so fuckin shreddy hahah

  • Im 39, and all I can say is all of us just like big kids.............just wanted to GO FUCKIN FAST!!!!!!!

  • is there a name for that song when the band kicks in?

  • There probably is, i've been meaning to find that out for a while.... they'd often play that back then during instrumental sections.

  • Thank you for the video!!!

  • wow this is incredible as usual shawn is shredding like a god, wow my god billy batte is tarring that keyboard up that was just amazing!!!

  • Insane. Just sick playing, and a joy to hear another Lane solo from Savage Innocence. Too bad the keyboards aren't more audible.

  • I spoke too soon, now there's a ripping keyboard solo going on. Awesome. :D
