Forgive the digression, but have any of you seen pictures of this woman lately? I would consider Joan Rivers to have grown old gracefully....... It's some frightening shit.....
I can only imagine HOW Startled and Surprised Bree's father was upon seeing Bree come out of her mother's womb with such disfiguring deformities. SHOCK and AWE.
As A Side Note, HOW can you live with yourself after knowing that you could've prevented your children (they're deformed as well) from going through the same torment and torture that you did, Bree, had you just aborted them after finding out that they were going to inherit the same genetic defect.
@awosterman You're GENETICALLY INFERIOR. You're Lucky You Live In An ERA And SOCIETY That Coddles, Empathizes And Takes Care Of GENETICALLY INFERIOR People Like You.
Carol should've taken the chance (way before Sue Simmons and others) to be the first NYC anchor to cuss on the air after listening to Jim ask Bree that stupid question LOL.
Jim was not out of line and he was not fired..it was planned and to shed more light on Bree's condition. How rude when people make up lies and start rumors. Bree has always been very proud to share her story with everyone. That is how I learned about her and what made her "famous" is her webbed hands and feet.
@fontaineburns Are you kidding? Yes, I agree that Bree Walker has no trouble discussing her condition and I think it's wonderful that she's able to be so open and so positive. But he was totally out of line asking the questions he did, putting her in a difficult position to answer ethical and personal questions like that. Especially since he intimated that had her parents known, they might have chosen to abort her. She handled it with a lot of grace.
jensen was drunk most of the time...an alcoholic with a big mouth and a small brain. Not a gentleman by any means. Bree Walker has class and intelligence, and handled jensen with aplomb.
wow that guy jim is a really insensitive person. obviously that womens handicap bothers him a lot more then it bothers her..she is a rally good role model...he just seems mentally handicapped
I wish that the other woman, carol was it? had leaned in and acted like a human being and had Bree's back! That would have been awesome. She could have turned the whole thing around into something positive and informative! I would have fired that tool for asking her if she would abort her child if she knew it had what she has. The only excuse that douche bag could have used as a reasonable defense would have had to of been that the voices in his head told him what to say and made him do it!
WTF! I can't believe the way this was handled why bring it up if it is going to come off like Bree was in the company of aliens disguised as humans? That was freaky and weird! I grew up watching Bree and she is awesome! Asking the question isn't what I found so yucky it 's that the other 2 didn't break character Bree had too so why not go with it and be real? I would have fired the other 2 because neither one of them stepped up, if you're going to open that door then do it right! Bree acts now!
bree walker handled that with class. carol martins reaction was priceless.she was sitting there like "wtf is this guy serious". and her "ok" at the end of the clip was great.
Out of respect that Mr. Jim Jenson is gone, i will try not to talk down to him too much because I always show respect for the dead, but i must say, in this clip, he was WAYYYY out of line. That is a horrible question to ask somebody and if that wasnt bad enough, notice how he leans back on his chair just before firing that question. Notice Carol Martin's reaction as soon as he asked that question. you can tell that she was in disbelief. RIP Jim
I've always liked Bree Walker because of her personal yet professional delivery of news. When I was growing up I knew a girl who had this. And all the kids had the normal reaction to know it was no big deal.
Wow, is this even real? She was really classy to not rip him up live or tell him it's not appropriate etc.. That was a complete a-hole move by that doofus guy.
According to Wikipedia, Jim was not let go. Jim was allowed this Q&A session because he did it to other staff as well. Apparently to work with Jim was to be in realm of being asked these types of questions and if you weren't a capable reporter that knew your stories, you could end up being embarrased on tv. Apparently Jenson took a hiatus from the newsdesk shortly after this incident for drug and depression rehab. Aparently he lost a son in a gliding accident around this time.
@screwyootube1 I can only imagine the holy hell that came down on him right after this broadcast from Bree, the producers, and just about anyone else in earshot that day. Alcoholics and live television are a recipe for disaster.
but did your circumcision go well for you? Have you ever felt that if your parents were to have been pornographers & if they could have known of your sub 6, that perhaps they might have aborted you? Have you ever felt that maybe they would have opted for a trans-gender surgical procedure? Jim, I'm sorry, but have you ever had anal sex? You bear a striking resemblance to an actor from the film, "Prime Time Posteriors of Proudly Paraded Posterity"
I always loved watching JJ but no way can this be defended. Look at how he settles into his chair just prior to launching into his moment of self-indulgence, which to me reflects not only his ignorance and insensitivity, but moreover the arrogance with which he viewed the power he held as the leader of the local news. Jim Jensen said" I knew I had a drug problem when I killed a roach on my bathroom and then started crying that I ended its life " That was in the early 1980's,
Wow...watching this as an ex-journalist myself, it seems bizarre and almost surreal by today's ultra-PC broadcast news standards. Even in 1988, it would have been considered HIGHLY unprofessional to get that personal (even with a colleague), and his pressing her on it could possibly be viewed as misogynistic by a liberal / feminist. I don't normally "speak ill of the dead", but I can see why they fired his azz & am glad they did. He needed some serious sensitivity training...
Jensen wasn't fired after this occurrence, but it was followed thereafter by stints at rehab plus hospitalization for depression. He continued at WCBS until 1995.
No, it was engineered by the people at the station and Bree herself. They wanted to bring it out into the open, and it hadn't been discussed on air. This was just a good pretext. But you are dead-on about Carol's reaction.
Makes you wonder if Jim would've aborted if he knew his unborn kids had the same condition. The questions makes Jim looks bad. Such a terrible and insensitive question.
Jim Jensen was on drugs during this time so it makes sense he would ask personal questions without relizing it because the drugs fucked up his mentality
Carol Martin Classic 1:43 "Ok" , puts the hands together with that "ok - that was fucked up" look lol. Jim Jensen: "Thank you for having the courage to discuss it" - What choice did she have? Storm off or say no comment on a news show? Jim Jensen was nuts and on drugs then. He went into rehab right after this I think.
This was great TV. No unprofessionalism here. If he pawed her at the bar then slap him with a misdemeanor, but folks, this is Show Business. It's hardly a "Tex Antoine" incident.
I grew up in the New York metro area and watched this guy regularly. In his defense, I think he believed he was engaging in some serious, professional questioning, although this probably wasn't the right forum for it. It's obvious Walker is getting perturbed, and rightfully so. He should have asked her these questions in private, if at all. If he was going to do it on TV, then he should have informed her ahead of time.
I don't see the problem here. Sure he asked personal questions, but they were EXTREMELY relevant to the story. If she weren't in that physical situation, the questions would never have been directed to her.
The questions were very personal though (would your parents have aborted you had they know about your problems? are you going to abort your child if you discover the same problems? etc.) and it also seems as if he just sprung that line of questioning her direction on the spot, which seems rather unprofessional. Had he discussed it briefly with her before-hand, off-air, or gotten her permission to do so, that's one thing, but it doesn't look like he did.
What an ass he is. He should have at least asked her if it was alright to discuss her "condition" BEFORE he just blurted out her many defects! That guys needs to be fired. He also needs to lose that ugly-ass rat on his head that he calls hair!
It was actually 1988, and while in LA she entered in a courtship, and eventual marriage to her coanchor, Jim Lampley. Bree did eventually have children, with the same congenital defect.
What an uncomfortable moment for Bree, but she handled it well, and if anything, it proved what an ass Jim Jensen could be.
HOLY SHIT Jimmy Boy !! Just when you've thought you've seen & heard everything, this comes along.I'm blown away, and so was Carol Martin;she was completely taken off guard, more so than even Bree Walker herself !!
Christ could this guy get any more personal? Why didn't he just ask: "Do you enjoy looking at aborted fetuses that are deemed handicapped?" or how about "if I was to throw myself atop of you in the back, and I impregnated you, do you think you would have an abortion and if so, could I perform it?"
I am also surprised she didn't respond with something like: "No, I don't believe in abortion, I do however believe in killing someone for wearing a ridiculously stupid mop atop one's head."
When Jim threw it over to Carol, she looked shocked--that was awkward and totally unprofessional on Jim's part..I remember watching them back when they were on CBS.
Bree Walker was gorgeous! Who cares about a defect or two? Certainly a great role model at that time. But lately you have to admit, she gone into another stratosphere with the Botox and facial surgeries. What was the point? Leave what God gave you alone and add just a touch-up if necessary.
I agree. She was so beautiful here. Her mouth really didn't need any work. She was very courageous to have her three children in the public spotlight.
Wow, I didn't realize Bree was at Reading Rainbow. That was my first internship and all they had me do was run around town returning props. Total waste of time!
thanx for the info. so sad; i mean, he seemed so miserable! probably due to his son's death, no doubt. i just hope he found some happiness in his final years.
It did seem that this exchange (probably drug-fogged on his part) symbolized how his probing interviewing style with other reporters by this time had descended into grotesque self-parody, the kind one would have expected to see on "SNL's" "Weekend Update" bits rather than on a bona-fide news broadcast. Yet even after this, and following his rehab stint, Mr. Jensen remained with WCBS through 1995.
Jim Jensen's son was tragically killed in a hang gliding accident in 1979. I would guess that such a profound and sudden loss had an impact. Still a tremendous broadcast legend, a professional, however the stresses of dealing with such a loss while having to be "on" nightly could take its toll. Many in the indsutry could tell you that. Not sure when he relied on various "remedies", but I would imagine the loss of his son was paramount and contributed to it if not started it.
Yikes! what the hell Jim...I would have stormed off the air if I were Bree or would have kicked Jim's ass! For her to report with such courage and to take that comment in stride really shows to her character. It's too unfortunate that she married Jim Lampley and ended up at the even-more controversial KCBS before vanishing from the air.
I.I.N.M., this exchange preceded Mr. Jensen's entering rehab. And it was in early '89 that he was treated. And Ms. Walker did leave WCBS for KCBS not long after this particular moment in television history. Wasn't it this kind of thing that "Weekend Update" on "SNL" used to parody in the Chevy Chase / Jane Curtin era?
I can see the woman to his right is like "Jesus, he did not just say that.."

Well, his demeanor was completely professional. There was no argument or anything.

This was great TV. No unprofessionalism here. If he pawed her at the bar then slap him with a misdemeanor, but folks, this is Show Business. It's hardly a "Tex Antoine" incident.
noahf67 2 years ago
I grew up in the New York metro area and watched this guy regularly. In his defense, I think he believed he was engaging in some serious, professional questioning, although this probably wasn't the right forum for it. It's obvious Walker is getting perturbed, and rightfully so. He should have asked her these questions in private, if at all. If he was going to do it on TV, then he should have informed her ahead of time.

I liked Jim's realistic style. Looking at this clip I realize that that sometimes meant going over the professional line.

Bree's ex-husband is worse than Jim Jensen. That person is evil UFC-hater Jim Lampley.

I would have bitch slapped this dude. WTF?
lastardriver 2 years ago
I don't see the problem here. Sure he asked personal questions, but they were EXTREMELY relevant to the story. If she weren't in that physical situation, the questions would never have been directed to her.
muckrak3r 2 years ago
The questions were very personal though (would your parents have aborted you had they know about your problems? are you going to abort your child if you discover the same problems? etc.) and it also seems as if he just sprung that line of questioning her direction on the spot, which seems rather unprofessional. Had he discussed it briefly with her before-hand, off-air, or gotten her permission to do so, that's one thing, but it doesn't look like he did.
juggo3 2 years ago 5
Did she know the questions were coming? If not, it might not be a good idea to spring it on her.

Jim is a crocthed old douche. Sit up straight when you are going to ask insensitive questions your moron.

I hope, or presume they discussed that he would ask her these types of questions beforehand. otherwise it is not very appropriate on national TV IMO.

she handled it very lady like. wtg girl. you tell em.

wtf?? and you could see it on Carol's face too she tried to slide that one under the rug.

there was always something about him too me, he was a great anchor but too much of a walter cronkite wanna-be.
ktrkhoustonfan 3 years ago
What an ass he is. He should have at least asked her if it was alright to discuss her "condition" BEFORE he just blurted out her many defects! That guys needs to be fired. He also needs to lose that ugly-ass rat on his head that he calls hair!
Cryocide13 3 years ago
Bree Walker went over to KCBS (WCBS' SISTER STATION on the West Coast, lol) in LA in the 90s.
videonut33 3 years ago

Wow this guy is waaay out of line.

When Jim threw it over to Carol, she looked shocked--that was awkward and totally unprofessional on Jim's part..I remember watching them back when they were on CBS.

How long was bree on the east coast?
dinfg6 3 years ago
Bree Walker was gorgeous! Who cares about a defect or two? Certainly a great role model at that time. But lately you have to admit, she gone into another stratosphere with the Botox and facial surgeries. What was the point? Leave what God gave you alone and add just a touch-up if necessary.
NYVoice 3 years ago 5
I agree. She was so beautiful here. Her mouth really didn't need any work. She was very courageous to have her three children in the public spotlight.

Wow, I didn't realize Bree was at Reading Rainbow. That was my first internship and all they had me do was run around town returning props. Total waste of time!

i remember him back in the early 90s. i always wondered what happened to him. now i obviously know, but how'd HE die?
dukenthaylor 3 years ago
Mr. Jensen died from a heart attack in 1999, a month prior to what would have been his 73rd birthday.
wmbrown6 3 years ago
thanx for the info. so sad; i mean, he seemed so miserable! probably due to his son's death, no doubt. i just hope he found some happiness in his final years.
dukenthaylor 3 years ago
What a horrible line of questioning from this gentleman. Absolutely disgraceful!
Bree handled herself with such grace and professionalism. Way to go!

Amen to that...Jensen def crossed a line here, and I'm glad Bree handled it as well as she did.

Until now, I've only heard about this exchange. Wow. This was very uncomfortable to watch...
shaunfossett 3 years ago
I really liked Jim Jensen. But watching this was embarrasing...it made me cringe. This is not the way I wish to remember him professionally.
RolloSmokes 3 years ago
It did seem that this exchange (probably drug-fogged on his part) symbolized how his probing interviewing style with other reporters by this time had descended into grotesque self-parody, the kind one would have expected to see on "SNL's" "Weekend Update" bits rather than on a bona-fide news broadcast. Yet even after this, and following his rehab stint, Mr. Jensen remained with WCBS through 1995.
wmbrown6 3 years ago
Jim Jensen's son was tragically killed in a hang gliding accident in 1979. I would guess that such a profound and sudden loss had an impact. Still a tremendous broadcast legend, a professional, however the stresses of dealing with such a loss while having to be "on" nightly could take its toll. Many in the indsutry could tell you that. Not sure when he relied on various "remedies", but I would imagine the loss of his son was paramount and contributed to it if not started it.

You could be right Jim. We'll never know!

@JIMMASTERSTV About how young of a man was his son?
StukInBuf 10 months ago
Yikes! what the hell Jim...I would have stormed off the air if I were Bree or would have kicked Jim's ass! For her to report with such courage and to take that comment in stride really shows to her character. It's too unfortunate that she married Jim Lampley and ended up at the even-more controversial KCBS before vanishing from the air.
mbhfromla 3 years ago
I.I.N.M., this exchange preceded Mr. Jensen's entering rehab. And it was in early '89 that he was treated. And Ms. Walker did leave WCBS for KCBS not long after this particular moment in television history. Wasn't it this kind of thing that "Weekend Update" on "SNL" used to parody in the Chevy Chase / Jane Curtin era?
