  • x2 on where to buy wax in bulk

  • I have been wanting to make candles.

  • where do you buy the bulk wax and the die ?

  • is that paraphen wax or however you spell it? thats what i have, and im afraid to heat it that way because it seems the wax is still directly on the burner even though theres 2 pans

But do us straight paraphen wax or a mixture of beeswax?

  • where do u find wics??????????i wish they would respond to our questions!!!

  • where do u find wics??????????

  • i LOOOOOVE the color! Where does she get her scents & colorings?

  • @alexandriatrejo looks like lone star

  • how about just buy alot of candles

  • good vid guys :)

  • where do you get all the wax, coloring, and scent for the candles?

  • What kind of wick do you use?..

  • This is a great video for a man that has never done many arts and crafts things. How many hours does one of your small mason jar candles burn? If I knew that, I could determine how many I would need to have a three year supply. You did not cover the wicks or the silver in color wick weights at the bottom of the jars, in this video. If I glued the wick weights to bottom of the inside of the jar, would I be able to remove it so that I could clean and reuse the jar for future candles?

  • @1bornsurvivor You can heat the jars up and take the wick out....it's only hot glue holding the wick down. Looks to me like she used a 6 inch wick clip assembly and her supplies look like they are from Lone Star Candle Supply.

  • I love your as I call it "just do and go with the flow" approach; very straight to the point and "git it done".

  • it was nice but u should have shown how it looks after taking it out

  • i want to make my own candles but that wax is so expensive in my area.

  • Thank you for the video. It was simple and to the point. Very helpful. :)

  • where can i but wicks, color and cent?

  • if you use beeswax its much helpful

  • whats the burn / flame time of those candles

  • can i bye my melting pot from maby a thrift store if not where can i bye it thankx

  • I have watched the other candle making video and I noticed that you use the same sized jars then too. It must work fine but do you have problems with the flame when the candle burns way down close to the bottom of the jar? Keep up the good work, I enjoy the videos.

  • What I like is the use of regular canning jars. This way you can put a lid on it and keep the fragrance fresh for a very long time. Also if it gets very hot and the was melts just a little the jar with a lid keep the wax from spilling and making a really big mess. It was a very good video.

  • How many jars can you make with the 10lbs of wax. And what would the total cost be around if you didnt add color or smell?

  • thanks for the video KEV.. i might try this tomorrow...

  • really nice. Thanks for sharing

  • Thank you so much. I learned a lot from this video.

  • Great video, where do you get your supplies?

  • In the US it's called "paraffin wax".

  • what kind of wax are you using ?

  • I'm lazy about candles, rather than using wax, I just use oil, and pour in some scented oil with it...I've now collected several oil bottles that have pre-mixed scented oil ready to pour into whichever glass shape I figure will suit best.

  • also turn the tap off please. ha!

  • try some ice with the jar, then when its set put another dye init. it also looks like your making them too thick, are they for warmth or light.

good on ya....also when there done put them in the freezer before you use them. they burn for longer.

  • @theheathmould Making them too thick?

  • Brilliant, thank you :)

  • To se mi líbí 5/5

  • Are you using paraffin wax?

and what's holding the wicks at the bottom of the jars?

Love the idea with the Popsicle sticks to hold the wicks after you pour the hot wax.

  • Are those wired wicks? Generally if they don't have the wire, they'll just fall into the candle when they weaken from the hot wax being poured over them... For that reason, I do the popsicle stick thing before pouring when using unwired wicks. Clothespins work good too if they fit across the mouth of the container. I refill my own tall glass candles, like those religious ones you see... without the decor on the outside.

    Great vid. Thx.

  • wow thats pretty cool, beats the crap out of buying expensive scented candles from the store. Where do you buy the wicks and scents from, like a craft store or something?

  • Did you heat the glasses first? I'm surprised that not a single one cracked when you poured in the hot wax.

  • @sweetelesue - that is why you use thick glass mason jars.

  • But mason jars can crack from heat, as well. I used to help my mom preserve all kinds of things in mason jars when I was growing up, and there was usually one that would crack, even though we would heat them all first in boiling water (both to sanitize the jars as well as to temper the glass). Anyhow, I really like your vids and have subbed to your channel :)

  • @survivalistboards A little bit of an old video, but it's important to note: It's not so much a matter of glass thickness.

Mason jars are made of soda-lime glass, which doesn't tolerate heat shock well. You may not have cracked any jars, but you may have stressed them. Just slowly warm them up to the same temperature as the wax before you pour and you'll prevent any problems.

    Great videos as always.

  • Backwoodsboy350...

Why do you keep posting all over this video with your insidious comments? keep them to yourself, you survivalist poon

  • this guy has 3 videos of making candles which are all the same pretty much

  • @Backwoodsboy350 - whats your point Backwoodsboy350??

  • well kev...it just seems a bit excessive for something that doesnt really relate to your mission of teaching survival...and why do u feel you need to record and upload kristey 3 different times making candles

  • @survivalistboards - why did you type my name out twice survivalistboards?? lol

  • @Backwoodsboy350 - youtube put this new quote system into effect, and I was not sure how well it worked.

My name is Kevin, survivalistboards is the name of the forum.

  • @Backwoodsboy350 you did to

  • hot water makes it go throw fast er

  • thats ccol....

  • COOL!

  • Grat video as always. Keep making these simple but informative videos. Thanks.

  • Thanks for your efforts to help people prepare for the hard times to come. I always look forward to your videos. Keep up the great work!!!!

  • Maybe because it's so close to Christmas, but when I saw that pot I would've sworn the title to this video was "Homemade Cookies 101."

  • last time i checked cookies were not boiled in a pot, theyre baked on a tin sheet genius

  • Great, that is the easy way. the old way was to dip your wick in the wax, time after time, till you build up a candle were is a good place to buy, your supply's can you get that at wal-mart???

  • Look out Yankee Candle Co.!

  • so........i guess she likes her wicks 6 inches??

  • Really enjoyed the video You need her to make a few up and drop some Tinks 69 in for your tree stand he hee

  • dude she rocks! you....are a lucky guy! cool....

  • does your wife make these, and hand them out as Christmas gifts?

  • I see by the plastic bottles, you're in Texas, or order from Texas.. As I am.

Where do you get the wax and wicks?

  • Where did you buy the wax like that?

  • A lot of craft stores like AC Moore sell it like that but there's probably some place where you could find it cheaper.

  • looks like a moonshine steel.

  • i enjoyed watching how to make them anyhow Merry Christmas to ya

  • I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but you may want to try using soy wax. It doesn't give off any soot or toxins like petroleum based waxes (parafin). Also much safer if anyone in the family has asthma as I do.

  • Would the tiny amount of toxins that come from the candles really effect anything at all? I mean, unless your face is right over the candles or you are burning a couple dozen of them, would it make any difference?

  • Yes it makes a very large difference for people with asthma. It's amazing how fast one scented or petro candles can take me from breathing fine to gasping for air! I like to burn candles I like the light they give off and I even make my own much the same way as shown in this video, except I use the soy granules :)

  • @cynan48 But soy doesn't smell as good.

  • great vid and happy holidays

  • The beginning if the Christy Candle Company

  • Candles are great gifts, as well as perfect for survival situations. A few things I have learned. 1. for survival you want them unscented, the many candles you burn during an emergency will quickly let the scents give you a headache! 2. lighter colored candles give brighter light, darker color candle burn longer. I don't know why it just is. 3. proper care of your wick length etc. will give you better light as well as heat. 4. don't freeze your candles. mail me for more! lol.

  • May i ask a question. what type of cord did you use for the wicks

  • Candles are fun to make, myself and the kids made a few for us and the grandparents for Christmas.

I do have a question though, 10lbs of wax makes 30 candles in 1/2 pint size????

  • Nice howto video +++++

  • Thanks for the response. How do I make those candle cups that you can carry around then set on the table to read the Bible by candlelight ? The kind that men everywhere would like, if you know what I am talking about ? kinda like the handle of a tea cup but more round and goes on a stick welded onto a plate in a cup for the candle stick ? What are they called and how can make them please ?

  • They are called "chamber lamps" and you can either buy them for use, or if you are crafty make them. OR, you can do what I have done. look for a place you can buy pint jars with handles on them. Lehman's has them as does a lot of other places. pouring your candle in these, really helps keep the draft off.

  • great vid, we make our candles in moldes so you don't have to fill up good canning jars, and the candles are lighter,

    Thanks,

  • @flytyer232 I like container candles because they hold more fragrance and the jars are refillable. Less messy.

  • I have never made candles but they seemed simple enough to try, great way to keep the wicks centered!

    5 stars!

    Happy holidays to all!

  • what about making wax from scratch? or making a wixk from scratch for worst case scenario.

  • I thought about showing my homemade tallow lamp.

    Thanks for the info.

Where are you guys buying the wax and wicks?

  • @JosiahsBackpack - Kristy gets her stuff from Texas Candle Supply

  • thats a good christmas gift

  • A survivalist is bound to swear sometimes. Obviously she swore at the right time. I have a question. If the candles become hot, won't it cause the mason jar's glass to explode or what ? Are there better and more safer ways of making candles. If this was just me, I would have no problem but with the kids. I don't want them hurt. Thanks, very informative video.

  • @Strongliftweighter - that is why we use mason jars with thick glass. Jars made with thin glass are likely to break - or, when the wick is close to the glass.

Just for your question, I measured the distance from the wick to the rim of the jar, and its between 1 - 11/4 inch.

  • o yea and to stfuBUDDY i no people have said he cant control the adds but about ur children you dont want them watchin vids with pics like that but yet again your name is shut the fu** up buddy ??

  • Do you reuse those jars for candles? I heard that it's not good to reuse glass jars for candles because the repeated heating and cooling of the glass will weaken the glass. I'm wondering if I should reuse that jar I have or plant herbs in it.

  • what u need to try is get onbe coloer wax puting it into the jar but only fill it up lyk 1/4 the way let it dry and pore in a coloer on top of that do this as many times as one want try with diffrent coloers :)

  • ew u guys use water to cook it looks like that :/

  • Does she ever try adding some bee's wax into the mix? It has a similar melting point to parafin, but a slightly different consistency. I use a 4:1 ratio of parafin to bee's wax to dip the guitar pickups I wind, but it would work great for candles too. The bee's wax I use is harvested here in Washington state and still smells kind of like honey. You might not like the smell combined with every scent you use, but some might work well. Anyway, hope you and the family have a good Christmas.

Never see a Ad ever again.

  • odd, i see an ad right now!

  • I don't think he controls what ads pop up. I think it's Youtube.

I've seen several videos where the singles sites pop up.

  • He cannot control the ads. They are put there by Youtube.

  • @stfuBUDDY - I do not control what ads are shown, youtube does that.

  • nice job, hope u have a blessed and merry christmas and a wonderful happy new year god bless

  • Good stuff! -- Have a joyous and merry Christmas in the Lord! -- Luke 2

  • What kind of wax is that?

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

  • How did you make the wicks? I've read that soaking cotton string in a so|ution of borax works we||.

  • That's very interesting. I heard that borax is used to make things like bedding flame resistant, though? It seems like the opposite of what you'd want with candles, but hey, I'm still learning :)

  • how long do you cook the wax or just tring to melt it and how long do they need to cool before use

  • is this a re post?

  • @RileyMcArthur - no, this is not a repost, the video was recorded this past weekend.

  • Where could you find the bars of wax?

  • I bought a 30lb slab of wax off of eBay a few years ago...

  • thanks for sharing. I love making my own candels then I can get the fragrances I love and the colors I want at a fraction of the outragous prices the stores charge. =] PLUS its a lot of fun!

  • Wow awsome, hey that would be great for gift ideas !!! Great job, thanx for posting the vid. Merry Christmas

  • Foil on the burner pans, thats a nice idea

  • So you could omit the dye if you had to?

  • The dye is just for looks, so yeah, you can omit it.

  • Five Stars My Friend!

  • ★★★★★

  • Thats the way;

Just get out the way and let Momma do her thing.

  • 5/5m8 merry xmas

  • I need to learn and start doing this!!! 5/5*

  • It's been two years since you last made a candlemaking video. It that how long it takes you to burn, sell, and give away thirty candles?

  • @EthanMontgomery30 - na, I just have not filmed my wife making all of her candles. Just one of those things I have not taken the time to do.

  • Is this a replacement video for an earlier candle making video?

  • @scruffymeigs - just better quality

  • so the metal tabs used at the bottom of the wick, does one diy make something for them or do you buy it somewhere?

ive been making candles for a while now but ive been sticking to making it a longer candle so i dont need a metal support

  • you would think when it cooled it would expand like freezing, but great video keep it up i like the green ones :)

  • The only natural thing that expands when it freezes is water. Everything else expands when heated and shrinks when cooled.

  • @crazy650c

Not true. Some meta|s a|so expand when frozen.

  • Interesting....which metals? I've never heard of that and I have my doubts....unless they are being super cooled by liquid nitrogen. You make a statement like that, I ain't gonna believe it without more info. Do you know?

  • I'm a chemist and studied meta|s. The ones I know of off the top of my head:

    bismuth

    ga||ium

    si|icon

    antimony

There might be a few more. :) Enjoy the research.

  • I use the same method to brew my tea only I use a pickle jar for my vessel.

  • with so many candles im sure itd be pretty easy to light the house to a suitable level in a power outage

  • Cool video!!
