  • Great idea and well done

  • DUDE No Fair! you already named the other line of knives the "wolverine" this is a different design. it deserves to have an individual name.

not to be a douche or anything.

  • Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. Love the idea of machete to knife, I'm work on one now. As for the kit in the handle, I have always wanted to see a skeletonized handle with removable scales, maybe just on one side, with a fire rod and sharpener stored inside. You could even build a compass, whistle and signal mirror into the plastic handle scales.

  • good idea on the machette turned in2 a smaller type knife, love the design, if i had my choice it would be the same design but more of a bk2 weight & micarta handles..... good vid, i actually make neck knives outta old saw zall blades & duct tape....

  • He has a plaster on his finger...

  • Man, you did a really great job on that! If THAT is your first knife, hey, keep on, you might just become a knifemaker. If I could say my 20th knife was half as nice!

  • all of the hollow handle survival knives are junk guys if you look at them there main weak point is at the base of the blade the best "survival knife" has a full tang handle

fits comfortable in the hand and holds its edge my personal preference my knife has no less than a 4 inch blade and has atleast 1/8 thick spine and i do prefer a scandi grind however this blade that he is showing is a very good desighn and i would cary it in the big bad bush

  • you could try to make a knife out of a cold-steel machete...

  • Very cool.

  • Great information!

  • he said aboot ^.^

  • Very nice man. Please share your knowledge with anyone you can. Like you are now. Although technology is fine for now, when all this shit goes away, these are the skills that are gonna save lives.

  • looks nice. Had a laugh after you said it was safer now I noticed the wrapped up finger.

  • Very Crafty!!

  • Very cool! I been playing around making knives as well. My brother in law makes custom stuff and he reminded me to make sure you use CA glue on the handles so they stay on really well even if you use screws.

  • Great video. I've seen that type of machete and thought, that would be great shortened from the back. Well you actually did it to show dreamers and thinkers like me! Super job on the sheath too. you have gotten me motovated!

  • so you used a bolo machete for the blace what would be the result if you used a regular bush machete?

  • so you used a bolo machete for the blace what would be the result if you used a regular bush machete?

  • Very Good Idea It is impressive...

  • great job.

  • dang dude i couldnt make a weapon/knife even if i tryed

  • It looks like he used a modern Trimontina Bolo machete. I have a 14" Trimontina Bolo machete from about 15-20 years ago and it is good for green wood in Canada. When I hold modern Trimontina machetes the steel doesn't seem as good of a quality as their one ones.

  • if its safe then howd u cut ur finger lol

  • Look up a Lobster Splitter or Lamb Splitter for a good, economic big knife.

Good on you, friend that knife is a good step in the right direction.

  • "processing wood"

  • It's saver????? aha! and what happened with your finger???? *rofl*

  • as long as it gives me a healing factor i 'm all in

  • sweet

  • Too short to be an effective zombie killing weapon

  • good for choping....

  • nice thats beast did the same thing

  • "It's very safe now." As you give us a clear view of your bandaged finger ha ha.

  • nice knife

  • Look like you cut yourself while modifying it, I see the bandage, lol.

  • Haha. Good idea. I did the same thing to my machete.

  • Will it give I woferine powers?

  • I like your mods. I was wondering if you could mod a cold steel 18 inch parang machete into a survival knife at about 13-14 inches overall. I would also like a sheath to fit it in. If you could do this mod, how much would you charge?

    Thanks dude

    ktomes340

  • Nice knife, but I don't believe it is going to replace the Woodsman's Pal. I have used one since I was 8 years old, and I have yet to find a more versatile tool. The one I have was used in the WPA projects in the '40's, and was my grandfather's.

  • Nice job. inginuity at its best.

  • This is very good work. Man, I live in Puerto Rico, and this is Machete Island. Every single kitchen has a machete to chop food. Every garage has a machete to do every work, from scrapping paint off a wall or for simple grass works.

As you may imagine, in Puerto Rico, as in basically all Latin countries, machete are owner modified tools. I've seen so many modifications, but your work is very nicely done. I congratulate you.

  • knife or machete

  • well thought out design ! & Handle looks Very good for a 1st time.

  • do you by any chance have a drawing or a still picture that I could get so I can replicate this beauty?

  • nice bandage lol

  • if not im interested please resond thanks

  • have you already sold it?

  • @TheBobmarley007 It's still for sale. Send me a personal message and we can talk. Thanks, Chad

  • @envirosponsible sent a message not sure if i sent it right tho

  • @envirosponsible have you sold since then?

  • Very nice job. I am envious. You might go into manufacturing lol.

  • cool project

  • cool project.

  • thats cool ill give you that

  • nice

  • Solid design, I've been thinking about doing something similar for some time, just haven't had the tools to pull it off. Good job.

  • @bewarethegreyghost Thanks. It was more fun to make than it is to use. It's a decent tool, but pales in comparison to Ontario, Cold Steel and other well known companies' blades.

  • Good Job but be careful you will catch the knife making bug then there goes all your cash

  • so if i get a butter knife and strap a sharpener and flint on the side it becomes a survival knife?

  • @herelivesjack6 Painful but true. I do get carried away. Thanks.

  • I did the same exact thing!

  • I think some people should learn how to type properly before they go spewing all over someones video. I think your knife is awesome. Its not the knife itself , its the fact that you took something or things that you already had and made it work for you. Anyone can get online and order the right materials and produce a usable knife.

  • @615Oreo any knife can be a survival knife, if you use it to survive, then its a survival knife. sorta like a baseball bat cracking someones head, now its a murder weapon. just do some research on survival knives, ive had rambo knives fail on me before, and those teeth dont feel good flying backwards at you when the blade breaks, i still gotta get the 4th knife, looks solid really

  • Well since a real survival expert would never use a rambo style knife with hollow handle you would be wrong they tell people they are survival but will not stand up in a real survival situation.

  • @615Oreo That's true. It's not a very good survival knife either. Thanks.

  • @615Oreo a machete is a more useful knife than hollow handled rubbish any day. i suggest you stop using movies as references to survival situations

  • @615Oreo Every "hollow" handled survival knife I have ever seen has broken where the handle is attached to the blade. I am not saying there are no good hollow handled knives but I have yet to find a good one personally.

  • @615Oreo hollow

  • @615Oreo You are a douchebag with no knowledge of hiking, hunting, camping or survival. When you gain some knowledge of any of these then come and talk shit. that blade is an all around tool, youre just .....a tool

  • @615Oreo FYI most hollow handle knives are liable to break at the handle, this gives a serious disadvantage, giving that if it breaks during batoning you end up with a min kit carry and broken blade, if you want to carry a kit with you add a pouch to your sheath.

  • @615Oreo STFU low life son of a bitch he said like 3 times its not a survival knife and not all survival knifes have hollow handles and why the fuck did you bring rambo into your comment?

  • It just doesn't seem it would have the HEFT you would need due to being chopped down. The thickness of the blade is thin due to the length of the original machete being long enough to gain momentum while swinging. Get some 2pc, screw post cutlers pins or solid brass compression pins, you'll like them better. Still a nice looking knife for someone in the early stages of knife making....i'd buy one for $45. I prefer custom knives over factory knives any day.....

  • I liked your knife and the sheath. Showed creativity and ingenuity on your part. Looking forward to seeing more videos on it.

  • How arer those screws in the handle working out for you? I would think that if you did much chopping they would be hot spots and cause blisters. Other then that looks like a nice light duty knife.

  • They're not bad actually. The profile on the heads are pretty minimal. The real issue is that the wooden handle is slippery when wet.

  • You've just made the Martindale paratrooper knife, Weird huh?

  • I think it's funny how you said you were using it 'earlier today" and 'it's very safe'...round about this time your bandaged finger comes into frame...

I'm honestly not givin' you shit....I just thought that was funny.

Honestly it looks and seems cool...it's my kind of knife.

    nice job

  • That's cool, I had it coming. It's pretty funny really. I'll have to start thinking about what I'm saying when I make these videos. Thanks for commenting.

  • Wow ,you are good .

  • Fantastic looking blade, the pouch with the multi-tool is definitely a nice touch.

  • I want to get around to doing something very similar to get a few ' alternate' blades etc, this is a great idea, OK, it's not a high grade, high 'Hype' blade, but the fun, imho, would be in the making of something out of more readily available or affordable steel or blade eh! Good fun, imo. Nice vid, Thanks.

  • That looks awesome. can u make me one. Perfect size. nice

  • I'll sell you this exact one with the sheath (not the pouch or contents) for $45 CAD plus shipping.

  • ha ha great job and I love the plaster

  • $20 worth of "junk" and you've made a blade that looks like it would perform better than that T.B.T.- Hollywood survival tool!

    Well done.

  • A very practical looking tool. Looking forward to your application video. Did you weigh it? Thanks!

  • looks nice, i like it.

  • Great job, I like things like that. My Dad, who is past 77 still makes knifes and arrow heads. He is going to like your video..

  • where did you get the machete? brand?

  • the tramontina makes knife/machette of 10" but i like do it yourself concept and your modifications 5/5*

  • Hi nice self made, good idea to use the machete as a basis, just for the laugh, I did notice your finger ( + plaster ) pointing at the blade right when you say " very safe ...." nearly fell out my chair! Thanks! Not having a go, just having a laugh with you not at you.. !

  • I sharpen knives professionally giving them what we call the japanese chisel true edge. What that is ..put simply is an edge so planed down and smooth that you work on the microstucture of the edge so its hairline sharp. To do that you need basic materials. A whet stone,a piece of marble, some oil..hinge oil, honing oil it does not matter, and a piece of good thick leather. Smooth your edge down with the stone and water, buff it with the marble and oil, then remove all burrs with the leather. Enjoy!

  • Thanks for the info, and for commenting.

  • My pleasure. Remember...a stone by itself is not enough. You need another element to really get down to the microstructure of an edge. With a whetstone you use water..every 10 strokes you add more water and make sure to give an even number of strokes on each side of the blade. With the marble you apply 6 drops to the stone then rub some along your edge smoothing it down. Then take the leather and rub the edge side to side like a barbers razor strap to removes nicks and burs to smooth it down.

  • Nice own made sheath.

  • has any one seen the big cut on his finger hahahahaha i wunder???? hehehehheeheheheh FUNNY u get it right !!!

  • Ha! You weren't supposed to notice that. Nobody said knife making was a safe endeavour. Thanks for commenting.

  • Good job.. I like your approach and you did a good job on that.. Shortened Machete's are a great base material for making a large survival type jungle knife... Im giving this five stars... BTW, Can you tell us where you purchased or where you can get one of those Carbide Sharpeners? Ive never seen one like that and i like that it can be used freehand to sharpen different types of cutting tools in a pinch.. I wanna get one of those for my Kit... Prolly a good flint striker as well.

  • Thanks for commenting. I buy the sharpeners at a local hardware store. It's an American product and you should be able to find it anywhere. It is a good flint striker indeed.

  • Isnt Tramontina a Brazilian brand? At least I thought so! I didnt know you guys out there know or use it! I´ve been using Tramontinas for years, but I think the blade is too thin for cutting through bad bush sometimes! I got another Tramontina heavy knife Bowie style, thicker, 10 inch long blade and I like it better, cause I can use it as a little machete or axe! I´d like to send you a vd as an answer if you dont mind brother! Anyway, I really like your vds bro! Congratulations again!!

  • I think it is a Brazilian brand. I didn't even know they made other styles of knives. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for commenting and of course I'll accept your video response. I love it when people show instead of tell. Chad

  • nice on dude,i like what you've done with it,i always thought my machete was to big to handle, you gave me great idea, and i like sheath to,a bit rough a round the edges but great work all together

  • oh yeah what do you think about tbt ?i just got mine and i think its great knife, and that dude that talks about tbt when he actually talks about the movie just talks silly

  • Yeah, I like NutnFancy's videos, but that was a nonsense review. Unless you actually use the blade, how could you know how well it works? How do you like your tbt?

  • I'm totally in love with it, I even like the extra weight,it's to thick maybe but i don't mind,I can see that sharpening it will be a bitch do,but I've used it in my backyard only since it's new and haven't got chance to use it in real situation, but i can see it's great piece of gear,oh yeah i've paid mine 50 bucks(hehe),it's not black do maybe that's the reason for low price

  • i love how he says (very safe) and theres a bandaged on his finger

  • I didn't say it was safe to make. Ha!

  • excellent tool, I have been teaching wilderness survival for years now and would certainly add this to my kit.

  • i like the idea for the sheath

  • Hey where do you get the velcro straps?

  • by looking at the original handle, is it a tramontina machete?

i too have a tramontina machete. with the 18" blade, it's a bit difficult to be carry around, had been thinking of shortening it too.

  • Good eye my friend! It is a tramontina. Shortening it is very easy, and if you have any questions let me know. Chad

  • nice improve man

  • and re-shaped the blade for a finger choil but I digress. The point being outstanding work. Carry on! :-)

  • Thanks for commenting. I guess I was being modest.

  • Nice project! It does however heavily resemble an Ontario Old Hickory butchers knife which runs around 10-15$ US.

I personally do not have the tools to re-profile a blade and would probably just buy an Old Hickory. That being said, great way to think out side the box and customize tools for your personal kit!

    Cheers Mate!

  • I've never heard of that knife before. I'll have to look it up. As for my modifications, I didn't reprofile the blade. I only cut off the handle and added my own.

  • Not bad! That was a good review. I was suprised! Ceap ´em coming!

  • I´d buy one if you sold them!

  • Great video. I have done this many times before myself with broken machetes. I have always ended up with some great knives.

  • GOOD TOOL FOR THE FOREST §§§§

  • knife work

  • knice work

  • Looks like an oversized Nessmuk.

  • nice knife!, that shape looks like it would be useful for digging aswell

  • yeah, really good job. you got skilz.

  • Great job on the machete dude! It was sure an improvement! Like the sheath and the survival items compartiment! Maybe you could make some extra bucks by making and selling them uh? Congretulations again!

  • nice one

  • thats actually relle nice, can i buy one offa u?:P

  • Looks like a really useful tool.

  • Hey Sean, thanks for the comment. I really dig your videos-great info.

  • nice work

  • Just noticed the plaster on your hand mate!!! Wonder how you did that a?!!!

  • vERY NICE mOD YOUVE DONE.. i LIKE THAT ALOT.. lOOKS REAL USEFUL..

That and a bushcraft knife is all youl need out there.. 5 stars for you

  • cool man!!! Making knives is fun eh? Looks pretty cool.

    Why "wolverine"?

Wolverine like the animal or like Logan from x-men?

  • Making knives is a blast. I named it mostly after the animal-my personal favourite, but also the comic book character and the movie Red Dawn.
