  • All my favorite girls named Alison and that is why i love this song so much ! Thumbs up if your name is Ali !

  • I was going to say Gin Blossoms are a guilty pleasure, but I don’t feel guilty.

  • long live the 90's...

  • TV in every room

    (gettin takin)

    Lamps on the floor

    with no furniture

    I didn't know.(lost at the time)

    On Allison Road,

    wasted.

  • "So she fills up her sails /

    With my wasted breath /

And each one's more wasted than the other you can bet"

  • I heard this song on the radio, i like this band now lol.

  • My sister's name is Alyson. Sounds the same right? :-)

  • The Ginblossoms were fucking awesome

  • @TATRODDER

    were? still are.

  • @X2wolverine True, "Still are"

  • Yes Doug Hopkins wrote most of the great songs on this album but this song was written by lead singer Robin Wilson and I think it is one of the best on the album. Not bad for someone who in his own words has said "I can barely play guitar"

  • @Hopkinsfan32 Hi, the Wikipedia page for Doug has more of the story. I guess he had a part in it, as personal responsibility is required to deal with a chemical dependency problem--something he started way too late IMHO.

"I understand why they fired me, but did they have to get so fucking cold and ruthless about it?"

Doug Hopkins (Rolling Stone, 1993)[2] (From the Wikipedia page)

I suppose the band had to do what they had to do. I'm wrong for judging.

I do appreciate what he left behind.

  • @sclingeman Gin Blossoms fucked doug, you don't do that to a brother. He wrote all their best songs and put them in the spotlight, they would have been just another alt. band from early 90s Phoenix if it weren't for Doug. Read "Jesus of Suburbia" by Brian Smith about Doug for the real DL. They got what they deserved though, a life of county fairs and no more hits! They could have gotten Doug help and pulled it back together, they are spineless cowards with no convictions who let a label push em

  • @MikeToddOnline I wholeheartedly agree with you there. You caused me to recall a company function a couple of years ago, an outdoor picnic where the Gin Blossoms were the headline band. I thought "Wow, the Gin Blossoms at an employee picnic?" I didn't make it to that. That's the way it is post Doug, I suppose.

Thanks much for the article, it was an interesting read!

    Regards.

  • i know i want to love her but i can't decide...

eyes in the sun where the road wasn't wide...

fires in the heaven of the eyes i knew ~

  • so she fills up her sails

    with my wasted breath ~

  • I saw them this past summer, for the first time. What impressed me most was that they sound every bit as good live , as they do in the studio. Great band. I wish they'd come back this way...I'd definitely go see them again in a heartbeat.

  • This rocked me to work this morning-love it thanks!

  • You killed Doug.

You know who I'm speaking of.

  • I wish I was a child of the nineties

  • i lived on allison road in the 7th grade when this came out :)

  • I was named after this song

  • wow Allison is my name.....i love this song

  • So poetic :) I love!!

  • hey! it was ladmo in the beginning (i think)! true arizona natives who are in their thirties to forties and fifties know who ladmo is

  • I had sex with my girlfriend for the first time in a park on Alison Road. This became our song ever since then.

  • Undoubtedly my second fave Gin Blossoms song & the first song I heard by them.

  • Did anyone notice that the intro sounds like the chorus of "Never Let You Go" by Third Eye Blind?

  • @jmorris724 They are simalar in terms of the rythm. Allison Road is in the key of A and Never let you go is in the key of E I think. They both use a 1,5,4 chord progression which is the main thing that makes them sound alike.I like this song better though. This was written by Robin the lead singer which is cool because I think it is among the best on this album. This is an incredible album

  • @jmorris724 Also I spelled similar wrong.I can't spell for shit.

  • Reminds me of the Byrds.

  • @Warjacki a lot of their stuff is Byrdsy, but this is the Byrdiest of 'em all!

  • 11 idiots. the end.

  • 11 people did know they were lost at the time.

  • I know that Marshall Crenshaw worked with the Gin Blossums and Crenshaw played John Lennon in Beatlemania. So perhaps the Gin Blossum connection to the Fab Four was by design than by coincidence.

  • God I miss the 90s. Not a nostalgic guy, but the music was so much better

  • The 90s Rule.

  • This song and this band are proof positive that the "big guitar" sound will remain so long as there is pop music.

  • If the Beatles got their start in 1990 instead of 1960, I have always believed that they would've sounded a lot like the Gin Blossoms. This song in particular.

  • @19531Michael hmmmm. interesting thought. i like it!

  • we did a few gin blossom songs...check them out at turner and brock acoustic sessions.....enjoy

  • I you're looking for a time fix,

this video appearred on Launch No. 1, Premiere issue.

    The file is dated 4/22/1995.

I literally heard this for the first time about 10 minutes ago.

It is a great, solid track, a touch on the low key side.

  • 最高です

  • I don't care what anyone says. This is one of my faovrite bands ever. And one of my first concerts. I will always have a special place for this band.

  • @ethanmario8 My first major concert featured the Gin Blossoms opening for the Spin Doctors at Riverside in Agawam, Mass. The Spin Doctors weren't anything special that night but the Gin Blossoms were outstanding. I'll always remember that concert and appreciate their music.

  • @NickG088 I saw the Gin Blossoms recently at a Casino. It was also memorable as the balding lead singer stood on the stage and asked his crowd of 200, "Are you ready to rock?!" The reply back nearly unanimous, "Dude, you're wearing a sweater vest."

  • ditto PremitiumX

  • what a wonderful, under-rated band. They had hit after hit in the 90"s & still tour. Their shows are awesome.

  • just watched GB last night here in manila! the show was epic!!

  • back when this video was new, I was forbidden to watch Mtv (by my parents) Of course I snuck the channel on anyways, and taped this video...it was on a crummy VHS though with horrible quality. Little did I know that 15 years later it would be on Youtube. Glad to see it again :).

  • who is the guy with the top hat on the t.v featured at the beginning of the video?

  • I love 90's music!The best decade for music.

  • name's alison, haha, love this song!

  • i love this song too, and i actually live on allison road :D

  • ahhhh i love this song. Plus, my name is Allison :)

  • When I was Driving through Texas I saw a Big 'ol street sign that said Allison. I wanted to steel it and hang it on my door, who doesn't want a giant sign with their name on it?

  • You may not believe what this song REALLY means. Find out at the blog SongSense.info. Seriously, I'm not trying to sell anything.

  • Proof positive that the "big guitar" sound will always be around. But I wonder whatever happened to these guys!

  • @arkady714

They just put out a new cd Sept 28th.

  • Fricken love the Gin Blossoms. Gin Blossoms and Tonic have had a huge influence on me and my music.

  • @MrBuc128 I know exactly what you mean. Since I was born in 1980 I was in middle school and heading into high school when that shit known as grunge rock was at it's peak. I couldn't stand that crap. I was heavy into classic rock from the 50's through the 80's and I was a huge fan of the bands you mentioned. I always got a lot of shit from my friends 'cause I thought grunge bands like Nirvana sucked ass. Lol.

  • @lhart99 Thanks for your reply.I am about ten older than you.During the 80's I was really into classic rock. But as much as I enjoyed the classics I always liked to hear good new rock. When i was in high school "hair bands" were everywhere.I liked some of thier stuff but enough is enough. in the early 90's when the blossoms crows etc. came out it was a good time for music. The overproduced music of the 80's was gone and back to basics rock in.todays music sucks

  • @MrBuc128 You know, I agree with you. By the late 80's the hair band scene really got played out. The early 90's were pretty good. Over the years, I've come to really enjoy Pear Jam. I think they are the only true grunge band worthy of my time. I regret not getting into them back when they first hit the main stream.

  • @lhart99 yes I too am a pearl jam fan at least some of thier music i saw them in concert in 2000 great show from what i can remember.Lots of weed and beer damn I miss those days

  • @MrBuc128 LOL. I can relate to that part of being totally smashed at concerts. Ha Ha Ha!

  • This is an amazing song from a very underrated band.Robin Wilson the lead singer wrote this.Although Doug Hopkins wrote some of their best stuff I think this is one of the best songs on the album.Too me this is just another argument that they should have stayed together longer because Wilson and Valenzuela were also great songwriters

  • my parents were on their way to the hospital to give birth to me and now my name is allison haha(:

  • @allisonvara right on! That's a really cool story to how you got your name.

  • @allisonvara Were you named after this song or the actual road?

  • @arkady714 The Sonqq

  • nice song haha

  • the 11 nuttjobs that dislike this song will burn in hell.

  • @perfectDagent And they will be forced to listen to Justin Bieber's Baby and Akon feat Timbaland for eternity....

  • Another underrated Group from the 90's! Great Lyrics! Along with Toad The Wet Sprocket. Does remind me of the mid 90's! Strange how time moves, "TO FAST!"

  • im a 16 year old metal head who likes punk and goth rock also . this band is a guilty pleasure thats for sure . i was at there show last thur in albany and they sounded great i mean just like this

  • I wish I had been old enough to remember the 90's better. I wasn't even a teenager until 2001.

90's has the best music ever!

  • great song!!!!!...brings back memories....

  • superb song

  • Great memories of just graduating high school/starting college. Gin Blossoms were a huge part of my college experience. Good times!

  • The Gin Blossoms just keep getting better with time. They put on an incredible show.

  • Reminds me of the 1960's rock group Grass Roots

  • One of my all time favorite songs and bands growing up! A great trip down memory lane.............

  • the 70's 80's 90's were great (old person speaking) This song is great. Love the Gin Blossoms!! so does my daughter, Allison..... this will be her song at her 30th b/day party.

  • my name isnt even allison and i love this song...HA.

  • "A" "E" "D" are used to play another great 90's song "heaven or the highway out of town" by "the refreshments" some how this two bands are connected but i'm a little foggy on the details.

  • Turning 30 on April 28th this year of 2010, if only we could go back to these days!

  • Nice song. One of the many 90's bands that were heavily influenced by REM.

  • OMG i havent herd this song in forever! My name is Allison this is awsum!

  • Ladmo!

  • Guitar chords "A, E, & D" Same as The Nightcrawlers "The Little Black Egg!"

  • This song is also reminiscent of Starz' "Cherry Baby."

  • @Gerkinstock Come 'ta think of it... guitar chords A, E, & D are the exact chords (in that order too), needeD to play the 1960's song "Hooray For Hazel" by Tommy Roe!!!

    "N-E-X-T!!!"

  • @cmf1965 yeah sometimes this group has a bit of a 60s like sound

  • One of my favorites! I wish the Gin Blossoms got more airplay at my job.

  • We have an Allsion road where I live, I miss the great times of the 90's when this song was popular!!!

  • long live the 90s!!! wish we could go back just for a day...<3

  • @JOPI23

Ah, depending on your age "The 90's" could be changed for other time eras,

but music recently has made almost any era from 1956 forward, before the last ten years look/sound attractive.

  • @JOPI23 Yes indeed, the best decade ever especially the year 1991 which I was born.

  • Listened this to death when I ten. Wish I could go back there for a few minutes, but this will do.

  • What a great band to come from Tempe, AZ! Originality plus plus, something that we hardly see nowadays :(

  • I live in Tempe and there is an Allison Road here. I think the song is about getting lost and looking for an exit onto Interstate 10. "She" is his car.

  • There is also an Allison Road in Miami

  • LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this song...and the truckload of memories that go with it.

  • "So she fills up her sails with my wasted breath, each ones more wasted than the others you can bet"

    Good lyrics period.

  • The guitar in this song reminds me of the Byrds and Roger Mc Guinn.

  • I always think of the movie Dumb and Dumber when I hear this song, I think it was in that movie but I don't remember it's been a while.

  • 1995-1996 i think you are thinking of mary moe:P

  • @Ackdacka Its new age girl by deadeye dick

  • one more is wasted than the other on allison road sound like a wasested life & pepole trying to get there shit together, thats what i hear anyway

  • The Gin Blossoms rock manz So many childhood memories come back when I listen to them

  • this song is a flop-house anthem

  • the video explains the song very well

  • Doug Hopkins was a huge part of the Gin Blossoms early success and he was, in fact, very talented. But, he also had a lot of personal problems and you can't blame the band for dismissing him. It's just too bad he couldn't have found help for his addicitions before he shot himself.

  • lol that was so friggin funny

  • I was on the Gin Blossoms website just then, and there is no info on Doug Hopkins. There's not even a memorial page or anything. It's almost like he never existed. Its sad... All we have is the music. What great music it is. What a way to be remembered

  • Some sites don't mention him, i think the band knows every one knows the story and wants to move on. Their official site is more for tour info, I've seen they mentioned Doug on their facebook/myspace and another site. There are several interviews (even recent ones) were they talk about Doug. They named the last two albums in his memory, he is long from forgotten by the gin blossoms.

  • Another tune that Doug Hopkins played guitars on....That's his replacement Scott Johnson miming 2 Doug's guitar parts, right?

  • Love this tune !

  • A friend of mine is naming their baby Allison Rose so I want to sing this song to her. :)

  • Time goes by so fast, man.

  • I was named after this song. :D

my mom thought they were saying "Allison Rose" instead, so thats why my first name is Allison and my middle name is Rose. I know, it's cute. hahah.

I do love this song though.

  • My parents named my sister after this song. it was such a great song and still is i just wish more people would see the deep meaning behind the lyerics i love it!!!!!!

  • can you tell me the meaning- i've listened to it umpteen times and i still can't grasp it

  • @richintalent I *think* it's about a guy who can't make up his mind whether he actually loves his girlfriend or not, and when he finally decides he does, she's already moved on.

  • I went to college at ASU in Tempe, AZ where these guys are from. If you're really familiar with their stuff, New Miserable Experience is like a "Walking Tour" of Tempe. Mrs. Rita's Tarot shop,

Allison Rd. is McClintock, etc. they played the Tempe music fest two years back and kicked ASS!!! Great Music

  • Doug hopkins helped give birth to this band enormously ...... such a shame what happened to him , i guess all we can do is remember how talented he was and try to not forget he was ( in my eye's ) the master behind all the first hits that made this band maybe what it is today???

  • Great song, this and "Not Only Numb" are my faves.

  • man I was only 3 when this was a hit song...too bad

  • I hear this song at Staples (where I work) on the satellite radio channel, and listening to it distracts me from the horrors of retail.

  • I wish they still made music like this.

  • @PremithiumX what, you don't like jay-z pointing in your face and talking about new york all day? or "diddy" or ludacris or blah blah blah? gin blossoms is a suck band, but it's funny how nostalgic i feel listening to this when i compare it to the shitstorm of today's music.

  • @teknokrat1 haha no i don't want people talking to me about money and gang violence and petty shit lol. I know your question was humorous and rhetorical, but my silly ass though I might just answer it. Gin Blossoms do not suck lol.

  • @PremithiumX : happy music ain't it. spirited. i like that.

  • @PremithiumX

They do. Their new cd No Chocolate Cake sounds just like they used to. its excellent If you want good music you have to go out and buy it.

  • i'm allison! :D

  • kewl! =D

  • Me too!

    but with only one L

    haha

  • 90's on 9 sat radio LOL. Hadn't heard these songs in years. Also I like my newly reintroduced Live -Selling the drama. I'm 31 and these songs didn't mean much at the time but now they seem epic and awesome. Maybe because of the recent garbage, from deteriorating rap shit, puke-inducing Nickelback-type rock and sad awful pop with Katy Perry and god-awful-lady-gaga like music.

  • very descriptive...

  • Couldn't agree more.

  • After careful research of many lyrics sites & watching the video, I'm with varsityredheads on "the road wasn't wide." However, there a ton of different thoughts out there!

  • A great sound.....in the Byrds tradition. Love the ringing guitar. You youngons should check them out!

  • sorry dude, but no.

  • fckng "A" this was a great song...lots of good memories!

  • Another one of my favorite Gin Blossoms song :D

  • Which Gin Blossoms song isent a favorite? lol They all are favorites to me :o)

  • Just saw them at the HRH pool with Tonic the ripped as always !!Lance wilson was even there!!

  • Great band...why did I rarely hear this song by them?

Whatever, it's awesome no matter what I say.

  • I miss Ladmo!

  • I'm pretty sure the lyrics at 1:54 are "I didn't know I was lost at the time; Eyes in the sun, (drunken garble) and I went looking for an exit sign; All I wanted to find tonight..."

  • The road wasn't wide?

  • I think the 'drunken garble' is 'the pearl was in wine'

  • at 1:53, does anyone know what the lyrics to that line are?

  • i was named after this song : )

  • Ladmo!

  • The Nightcrawlers - The Little Black Egg Ah, whats up with that?

  • This is such an under-rated band , but so-so good!

  • yes , also it reminds me of a ashley road who means a lot to me

  • Maybe the best song ever, pure sugar

  • dude..this video is all done in one shot. so no matter what anyone says negatively, you have to respect that it wasn't easy to do. quite skillful...

  • What in the world of music is sweeter than the "big guitar" sound.

This band does it so well.

  • Does anyone have the remix of this song from 1994?

  • They were sooooooo fucking good , why disappear ?

  • They are still around. They have 2 albums coming out this year.

  • A live album titled "Live In Concert" was released on May 19th.
