Is this what the Labour party hase come to? The only argument left is "at least we didn't close the mines 30 years ago." Why did the mines close anyways? Was it because of some burning desire for social disruption in the Conservative party? No! It was because the labour unions were out of control. They broke the back of heavy industry in Britain by setting ludicrous wage demands.
What is Labour doing now to help the miners villages? Nothing at all! They are too busy claiming expenses from us.
Is the Conservative Party the same political party as the Labour Party? I don't see much difference between the policies of public school educated Toff David Cameron and public school boy and known liar Tony Blair. As a Labour supporter I am sorry to see Labour leave power after 13 years. However, we have too look at it this way a government how are in power for a long period of time become unpopular. For example the Tory government that got voted out after 18 years of government. I do not agree with everything the Tories propose, but the idea of getting the people on benefits back to work is appealing. However, with all the housing benefit cuts the Tories have stopped work from paying for the poorest
@orangemelon421 I think you will find that it was a report put to the Conservatives who were in power at time, who then went on to reject the Beveridge report saying that it was to radical. If it was not for Labour then there would have been no NHS therefore making it Labour's greatest achievement.
You people destroy yourselves by alienating Independents who ARE critical of many Conservative Party planks and wars and economics but who are pro-family, anti-abortion, anti-eugenics and population control.,e tc. @Catholicism777 That was their policy at the time. And they didn't scrap it for financial reasons, that's a barefaced lie. They scrapped it because the Lib Dems forced them to as a condition for the coalition. They still find the money for an 8% cut in corporation tax for the banks though.

@whiskasalpha Please do not listen to leftist propaganda and try and hear a more balance view. Osbourne backed the bank bailouts and CHurchill supported the NHS otherwise he would have aboished it when he was the pm from 1951-55.
@usainlightning Exactly. And besides, all parties make mistakes. But the lefties seem to always make them. All nations that follow a socialist-government end up in hell. Vietnam, Cambodia, Russia and North Korea are excellent examples of "pure socialism" (aka Communism.) And besides, haven't we seen enough examples in the United States? Johnson fucking us into a horrible war, destroying the economy and making shitty new laws. Nixon fixing the nation? Then the same with Reagan and so forth? :P
@usainlightning Yes Osborne supported the Bank bailouts at first then the Conservatives changed their mind. Now economists are saying that Labour did the right thing to bailout the banks, as the government will be able to sell their shares in the banks when the market picks up for a profit. Also Churchil had no choice but support the NHS when it was implemented as to oppose something that was free to the people would be madness, that is the true reasons for the Conservatives supporting the NHS.
Labour = more power to the incompetant unions; impropper cost-benefit analisis' in the NHS-MOD-Home Office-West Minster.
Conservatives = The ugly clean up afterwards ....so much of which makes them more deeply disliked by thier opponants that they have to be funded by arseholes who think they can gain some political capital out of it. However Labour had just been in long enough to get big-time greedy ....corruption rife. '.....heads will roll' so to speak before that party gets re-elected.
@temporaldisplacement You're 23 and can't remember how bad things were when the conservatives were in and 4 million were without jobs. When waiting list for nhs treatment ran into years because there were no beds etc the list is endless. Now we are all Con-Demed.
@jamiewm3 I voted conservative in the last election because I read the manifesto's of Lib-Lab-Con & UKIP. ....I remember illegal strikes and Labours blind support of thier 'workers-union' funders. ...I wanted to have the freedom to vote UKIP but as it is, the strongest manifesto came from the blues.
For the rest like the miners' strikes, the poll tax & VAT, I would say that was Thatcherism which changed the party into a Libertarian party. As for the minimum wage, you should know that Boris Johnson increased the minimum wage to £7.60 in the Assembly and parts of London and, the minimum wage was introduced under Harold Wilson, it is just that it increased to £5.80 in 1998 because of inflation and the Tories were sceptical about it being a burden on small businesses but then on, they changed.
I have no idea from whence you got that but the Conservatives definitely supported the NHS actually and the Labour Party had won a few governments in the past and they did not bring in the NHS when they were under the leadership of Ramsay MacDonald. "Banned the promotion of being gay" WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??? Homosexuality is not a normal lifestyle and it is not a race as it is not the basis of society arsehole! Section 28 protected our children from these lefty sexual perversions.
To be honest labour created the NHS which is good i love it but labour fuck up with it vat on heating labour could have took vat off heating but did not the minimum wage works im for it and The community charge which got replaced
This is a bit of a patchy history of the Conservative Party.
What about the right to buy a council house (which the Labour party opposed)?
What about state education (an idea which originated under Otto Von Bismarck, the conservative chancellor in Germany)?
What about all the stuff in the original video?
Besides, I wouldn't say favouring the miners, or opposing Section 28 (which was a knee-jerk reaction to AIDS) were necessarily progressive policies...
If you want to keep the same; Vote Labour. This video has little to offer in response to the original video from The History of the Conservative Party. Let's vote once again for change, vote for your children, vote for your education, vote for your health, let's Vote Right, Vote CONSERVATIVES.
coz that was all Thatcher..nothing to do with the basket case of a country she inherited-I'm sure you remember:
Sick Man of Europe
Winter of Discontent
Rubbish on the streets
the DEAD not being BURIED
Industrial Strikes
going to the IMF with our begging bowls
Callaghan, the Labour PM, saying if he were younger he would emigrate
Funny how Labour hasn't repealed a single TU Law & it's an appalling statistic that the gap between rich & poor has got wider under Labour these past 13 years
@sighthound7 perhaps, but it was a response to a video with the biggest load of distorted tory spin-crap ever! so you know, it's just two sides of the same coin
I'm no fan of Labour.. but I would rather resort to tactical voting than have to vote Tories. They are the biggest bunch of cons and thieves and should not be trusted with the NHS or OUR money. I really hope this party does not gain enough votes to form a majority government as this pompous horrible bunch would bring this country to it's knees.
@FallenAngel2021 bullshit, labour have brought this country to it's knees, the tories handed it over in a good state with a strong economy, to name a few things labour have done: labour have sold off all our gold at a 20 year low, bailed out the banks for 600 million blaming it on the "world economy", they've ruined our education system removing discipline and introducing bogus health and safety measures throughout society, the nhs is in a terrible state with filthy wards and overworked staff.
@FallenAngel2021 Except that one of the main Conservative policies in the elections manifesto is to put extra funding into the NHS. Why vote for a party you obviously have no confidence in? Read some policy and get informed.
Did you know that Gordon Brown said a weak currency is a weak Government, this what he said in 1997 but lets have at currency now. Oh its weak what does that say about the government Gordon.
@MrTORYTOM that labour are weak, have always been weak and will always be weak. this video is full of misrepresentations is so factually wrong whoever made this did no research whatsoever.
Have you seen the video that this is based on. It is full of perverted historical ideas. Just goes to show, the Tories have lied before and they will lie again.
The Tories are idiots! There is a world fuel crisis looming and we have 300 years supply of coal underground... Hey, why not close the pits and make them inaccessible until we need the coal and have to spend billions on reopening them.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
1945 - fought against NHS... You mean like every doctor in the country?
1984 - The mines would have closed regardless. It was becoming expensive and very uncompetitive.
1988 - You said it yourself they banned the PROMOTION of homosexually by local authorities. That means local authorities cannot use public funds to promote homosexuality.
1992 - The investors and stakeholders were to blame for that. A government can only convince them not to sell shares.
Most of the mines would have closed in the 70s if it wasnt for the fact that the government was so scared of the miners holding the country to ransom that they were willing to pour what would now be billions (of everyone elses money) into keeping them going. Also the Union along with government mismanagement and complete lack of business knowledge meant that, rather than modernising and losing a few jobs earlier on, they held on until the industry went into the ground and all the jobs were lost.
I look back now and i think, the Conservatives have had the first and the only minority PM (Benjamin Disraeli) and the first and only woman PM (Margaret Thatcher). I cant think why they didnt point that out in their much better video. They have also had some bloody good statesman too, unlike Labours PMs which have mainly been showers of ****
Good old Labour! We all want 20% inflation again dont we boys and girls! Lets have a right good time with electricity for only half the day! It'll be an adventure lol! Better still we could play the "lets beg for a loan off the International Monetary Fund" game! Or, my personal favourite, lets sell our gold reseves, that we saved up through two world wars, at rock bottom prices. AND, just to make it even better, lets put so much on at once that we push the price down even further!!!
Ah yes, Labours only champion, Clement Attlee. Who, rather than phasing out ID cards after the war, increased the amount of information on them! So bad did the situation become that the government was taken to court and their was a popular outcry. Needless to say Clement was out for 1951, a victory for the people over the overpowering state. Closed the pits, an unfortunate occurrence that happened all at once because Labour had been injecting billions to keep them going artificially.
A 4th term for Labour would be as disastrous as the Tories winning, which they probably will do - I will be standing against Jack Straw as an Independent and if anyone else cared enough, they would stand as an Independent in their constituency, all you have to do is knock on every door and hand over a leaflet, start now - I will be starting on Tuesday September 29th 2009 as long as I am allowed to stand
Labour stands for corruption, lies and bankruptcy of the country. All of Britain will cheer when they get booted out next year. 'Our' Prime minister was never voted in by the people and continues the destructive path started by Tony bLiar. Let's welcome back the Tories who at least stand a chance of saving the country again from the small-minded Labour lunatics who remain blinkered to real life and don't care any more about anything apart from their fat-cat cushy jobs.
I am an American, and I certainly would vote for Labour if I lived in the UK. In fact, I would clearly identify with "(OLD) Labour-socialism" of Clement Attlee, Tony Benn, Michael Foot, and Walter Wolfgang. But don't you think you are being a bit harsh. British Tories made reached the bottom of the barrel with Margaret Thatcher, but your Tories in the UK are not anywhere as bad as the Republicans here in the USA. The Republicans here are the right-wing loons. Trust me in the comparison.
Yuh Labour/Brown = AWFUL. 4th term has to be nigh on impossible. & don't fall for there.......? good policies, and good looks? I don't understand why pictures of them constitues an argument. Get over it - David Cameron is Upper-Class. That doesn't mean he isn't the solution.
What a horrific video..the history of the Labour Party: Going to war on a lie - thousands of death that have ensued / Gordon Brown / Socialism / Sick Man of Europe / Winter of Discontent / the dead remaining unburied in Liverpool / industrial strikes of epic proportion / corrupt Trade Unions / Gordon Brown / John Prescott / Labour isn't working - massive unemployment / economic misery / Sleaze - cash for honours / 10p tax fiasco / Smears / Gordon Brown / Peter Mandelson / Expenses scandal
The problem with 'New Labour' is they are too Conservative, too ready to get into bed with bankers, too ready to fight US wars against poor people, too ready to keep pointless and expensive nuclear weapons and too ready to cut the funds for community and art groups.
Yawn....documented over many years...its not for me to have to prove what rural people already think. If the hunting lobby was so in touch with rural people then they would already know! And the rural majority is not in favour of hunting...Animal cruelty is animal cruelty, there are no excuses and it is time those that seek hunting moved on. Its not wanted and never will be.
1.) I don't agree in strong central government, I believe in power being devolved to local communities.
2.) Why am I "statist" for not supporting the Tories? I thought always thought it was the Tories that abolished the GLC, surcharged 47 democratically elected Labour councillors in Liverpool, and brought in the unfair Poll Tax.
I don't go around calling you a foul-mouthed troll who jumps to conclusions, even though I would be correct in that observation.
You are a statist for supporting the labour party, which believes in state interference in society and the economy. You may or may not be a wanker, it is meerly my subjective veiw.
I respect you're views, now respect mine. I have a right to support my party and not be subjected to this. Political discussion is above petty trolling and name-calling. Clean up your act.
Now, I dont think Cameron has guts, but he has a determined mission (judging by his voting record) to privatize the NHS and most of the other public services. That means pay cuts on the shop floor and thus the pendulum of power swings once again, back to Thatcherism, back to poverty.
Thatcher was a Conservative with guts; one that put impulse into action. Conservatives innate impulses can be summed up in a few words: self-importance, greed, selfishness and snobbery. She inflicted this country with a terrible plague of self-interest and she was the one that caused this recession. Think about it it is conservative policy to give too much power to the City, as that is where their money comes from.
it is not the purpose of the state to be compassionate, the state should merely provide a framework of freedom in which compassion, or a lack of it, can exist
The true privilege of strength is the power to help those without it. Being fit and bright, and strong and young enables you to give a helping hand to those who are not the old or disabled; those in need and the poor. And it isnt a sentimental attitude; it is a way of proving just what your strength amounts to.
These Tories are getting a bit desperate, eh? As their mask slips, the scandals and lies become ever the more evident.
But the important factor here is that the Tories want to scrap the NHS thats all that counts and people wont forget this at polling day. Good luck David Cameron, but I think your student union idea of politics has come to a end.
I think UKIP should be the opposition party and wipe away the Conservatives for dodging the question of Europe. Though I think it's more likely they'll take a few Lib Dem seats at the next GE.
much as i hate to agree with a thatcherite, you have a point.
i feel david cameron is just another in a long string of poor tory leaders. they have never reconciled themselves to the fact that thatcher is no longer the driving force ... what is the phrase "up sh*ts creek without a paddle?"
I'm looking forward to putting my cross on the ballot form next year; lets hope they dont abolish voting (or 'reform' it) before we get a chance to have our say. Mmmm...
although i concede that edmund burke was an exception, a man of principle; the conservatives are the party of privatisation, unfairness and rampant inequality. this alone has characterized their official policy since its inception.
you may think life is hard under labour, but wait 'til the conservatives get in. they pride themselves in deceiving people, they're the biggest liars in the business.
Totally wrong, full of false assumption and typical response we have come to expect. No understanding of millions against hunting at all. And before you say it 72% Of the rural population want the ban to stay. 75% nationally which is roughly 44 million people. Labour banned hunting with dogs because of animal welfare, I was one of those who helped bring it in, I care not a jot about peoples money, I despise animal cruelty as do the nation. The ban will will stay and more prosecutions take place.
The % are easily checked just type into the Google and you will find the answer and it has been around for a heck of a long time and those figures are correct..
As for cruelty, little short of being set on fire there is nothing worse then been ripped apart...Foxes by the way even before the ban were still being needlessly poisoned...
So that side has not changed, yet stopping killing for fun has....
For someone who boasted that he was responsible in part for the banning of fox-hunting to suggest "googling statistics" as viable is pretty lame - how can you vouch for those? Now define the rural population.
Tell you what - I would rather be ripped apart quickly than die of strychnine poisoning or similar.
Great to see some reality instead of the spin and no substance that is Cameron and his yes men....
Vote Tory and it will be everyday people who will pay the price as well as the Fox, The Deer, The Hare. Cameron wants to legalise killing our wildlife for fun again....
Not such the nice guy he makes out.......
Only Labour has progressive policy's and it is only Labour that can protect the hunting ban.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Foxes are vermin and if people want to control their numbers in an enjoyable way and carry on a tradition then they should be able to. The only reason labour banned it is because they wanted to annoy the upper classes, who labour despise because their freedom hating socialists.
well, you can answer whether we had 'freedom' in the eighties.
if freedom means doing anything you want without restriction, those 2 million unemployed (on menial very benefits, lower than what we have now) were nowhere near free. they starved, their families starved, they had nothing because the tories did what they always do during a downturn - nothing.
You may be a socialist democrat, but that fat, old labour, trade union northener certainly isn't, listen to the man he's obviously a crypto commie
The only fairness is freedom, everybody should have the right to be unequal. I'm not self important, I merely consider people's freedoms more important than their circumstances.
I said social democrat, not socialist democrat. It's quite a difference if you know anything about political theory. What I believe is that a person isnt able to gain an education or afford healthcare is not a free person. A weak man is a dependent man. When a man is dependent his frustration can be easily manipulated by fascists, nationalists and communists. That is not healthy for democracy. This is why everyone deserves a good education and support when times are tough.
I guess you haven't heard of the term 'New Labour' yet? Quite simply, it was a movement away from socialism and towards a greater integration with German social democracy and Keynesian economics.
I think every assertion except the minimum wage you make in the video is a LIE.

A government can only convince them not to sell shares.
grantmitch1 2 years ago

Now, I dont think Cameron has guts, but he has a determined mission (judging by his voting record) to privatize the NHS and most of the other public services. That means pay cuts on the shop floor and thus the pendulum of power swings once again, back to Thatcherism, back to poverty.
hardworkuk 2 years ago 4
Thatcher was a Conservative with guts; one that put impulse into action. Conservatives innate impulses can be summed up in a few words: self-importance, greed, selfishness and snobbery. She inflicted this country with a terrible plague of self-interest and she was the one that caused this recession. Think about it it is conservative policy to give too much power to the City, as that is where their money comes from.

So that side has not changed, yet stopping killing for fun has....

I said social democrat, not socialist democrat. It's quite a difference if you know anything about political theory. When a man is dependent his frustration can be easily manipulated by fascists, nationalists and communists. That is not healthy for democracy. This is why everyone deserves a good education and support when times are tough.
