I have no idea who did it originally & although it was amusing, I thought Metrano's version was more expanded & took this comedy routine to a higher level for sure. It is hilarious. My uncle used to do this for me, my friends & family when I was a kid in the late 70's & I loved it. I always wondered where he got it from. Brings back great memories for me personally.

Family Guy utilized his bit in their joke about Jesus's abilities being exaggerated, which parodies the bit, not in an attempt to sell his joke as their own, but as more of a way of paying homage. It'd be like saying their Star Wars episodes are both rip-offs Star Wars, which would just be ridiculous to say.
There is a HUGE difference between ripping off an idea and just making a reference to it. After the "Cartoon Wars" episodes of South Park, I read a review by someone who criticized it for ripping off Family Guy's flashback humor. I wanted to fucking scream. This guy was so dumb he couldn't even tell that South Park was clearly making fun of Family Guy's poor writing, but he instead just thought South Park was trying to be like Family Guy. I have no faith in modern civilization.
Why compare to Family Guy? Obviously the Family Guys writers grew up with this bit like some of us did and thought it was funny. In fact knowing this bit beforehand made the Family Guy's takeoff even funnier. its no doubt funnier when they create jokes, sure but they always parody in what you call a carbnon copy, what about the planes trains and automobiles part on baby not on board or the countless movie lines, and all those bits?
if family guy didnt do parodies there would be hardly any jokes, so i think they should keep them in!
I've noticed that my favorite episodes from Family Guy have no carbon copy parodies. Obviously it is a personal preference and some of the parodies are 'time fillers', but I wish they would come up with more original jokes (especially the newer episodes).

While I do agree it might be a bit over the top to sue over something like this, the guy had every right. It's just like the Spider-Pig song from the Simpsons Movie. It'd be silly to sue over it, but it's become more popular than the original, and that's somewhat of an insult to the creator.

I remember this act from around 1973. In one version, he would hold up 2 fingers from 1 hand, slap a finger from the other against it, and now all 3 fingers were on one hand, with the other at zero. Then he would make all 3 jump from one hand to the other.

Kay Swift lived until 1993 and was probably aware of this act, but you didn't see her suing anyone. If Mr.Metrano has a case against Family Guy, then the estate of Kay Swift has a case against him.
One time, I saw an episode of Nickelodeon's "Kablam!", where Henry did this exact parody, down to humming the same tune. Years later, when I saw Family Guy, I swear, I thought it was a reference to the cartoon.
But now I realize, they both were just references to THIS one. I still have the video of that "Kablam!" episode. But the Family Guy one is just much more hilarious.

Like most that watched this I looked it up cause of the Family Guy thing, but seriously, this is so amazingly funny. Being from Germany I suppose this was never seen on TV here. A shame, when he does that skit where he pretends to take his nose of, I couldn't stop laffing for a solid 10 minutes. Comedy at it's best. I've been doing this routine for years even thought I only saw it once on the Tonight Show in 1971. The next day at school, our entire class was doing it. There is beauty in simplicity! Thanks Art for all the joy this has given me and my friends.

One time, I saw an episode of Nickelodeon's "Kablam!", where Henry did this exact parody, down to humming the same tune. Years later, when I saw Family Guy, I swear, I thought it was a reference to the cartoon.
But now I realize, they both were just references to THIS one. I still have the video of that "Kablam!" episode. But the Family Guy one is just much more hilarious.

Like most that watched this I looked it up cause of the Family Guy thing, but seriously, this is so amazingly funny. Being from Germany I suppose this was never seen on TV here. A shame, when he does that skit where he pretends to take his nose of, I couldn't stop laffing for a solid 10 minutes. Comedy at it's best. I really only knew him as Mauser from Polica Academy, shame he injured hos spine.

I've been doing this routine for years even thought I only saw it once on the Tonight Show in 1971. The next day at school, our entire class was doing it. There is beauty in simplicity! Thanks Art for all the joy this has given me and my friends.
