Quake 3 is out for MorphOS which is a Amiga compatible OS that runs AmigaOS 68k software but also modern programs like webkit browser called OWB and even Return of Castle Wolfenstein is ported.
Back in days it was expensive yes. You needed to have cash to buy PPC cards for either A1200, A3000 or A4000. Now in the year of 2011. You can buy yourself an cheap macmini g4 or powermac g4 and install MorphOS on them. Cheap way to get AmigaOS but also modern speed. Also there is AmigaOS4 which is for custom PPC hardware and for the upcoming X1000. This one also runs modern software.
Amiga today is Classic AmigaOS, AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS. I am a proud owner :) !!!
@Amix The thing is that MOS doesn't look and feal very much like AOS. It got some programs that was important back in the day like CGFX and MUI and it runs old Amiga software but it doesn't feal very much like AOS. So don't try to fool anyone into thinking that it's like AOS because it isn't.
Hi. Yes! AmigaOS works on macmini g4 1.25ghz to 1.5ghz PPC models. Just install MorphOS and you have Magic User Ineterface, Great GUI and many apps to choose from. Amiga lives on in everyones hearts :) Important
That Matrix theme annoys me. Not quite as much as the completely overused 007 sound systems song that many people are using, but still a bit. Why? Because it's used in just about every conspiracy theory video around...
That might be, but Amiga is not a conspiracy,... its rather proof of a unique machine that lives still because there was some people at Commodore coding AmigaOS and made it unique. Amiga is better than any other computer. Look at what you can achieve with it. This is proof of that.
Amiga will never die because Amigascene lives and users uses it and developes for it. Its just not a PC or Mac, but Amiga. Difference is there and your only way to find out why so many Amigans still uses their Amiga, try it out.
The Amiga was also way ahead of its time. Just think of that AGA which was made in 1992 can show 3D graphics. Its insane to think of it today, right? Amiga spans from 68000 to PPC. The original OS runs on PPC also. Quake 68k runs on 060 quite good...
Sorry, but I don’t believe that the Amigas can run Quake. The 3D graphics a waayyyy ahead of what the actual hardware can do. You simply ran the OS on a faster computer. Which doesn’t count. Sorry.
@Evi1M4chine Belief isn't necessary. An upgraded Amiga can handle Quake just fine. Which was why a professional company, (albeit not one I particularly like) converted and released the game commercially. Amiga's are computers, and are upgradable, you know.
I don't want to try and sell anything but I still feel that since lots of you seems to enjoy the Amiga maybe the upcoming Natami could be of interest? Check natami.net for info. It's pretty much a new motherboard with functions like the next Amiga would've had if Commodore had survived. The cool thing is that lots of old games/demoes works and as I understand it even loading from disk. The new graphic chip is called SuperAGA. If you don't own an Amiga or don't want to buy an old one this is cool
Ah man... Crockett's theme... with Amiga working... i just need a Remy, a pair of chicks and that's it: living, not surviving. Amiga was (and is) the best and you can say that just looking at Microsoft and Apple success. They tried to kill Amiga because OF THE FEAR, they just couldn't compete with this goodness. Look at that: Gateway 2000 acquired Amiga... Gateway is controlled for the most part by Microsoft controlled company... Do you get it?
ON what machine are you running these demos? Just curious... I've had all of the Amiga series and I regret gave them all away... I'm now stuck with my PC... :-)
Classic Amigas are all custom chipset machines. They are powered by 68k CPU from Motorola, but heart of Amigas especially the latest ones before Commodore went down is Amigas with AGA chipset. Its one of worlds best 8 bit gfx cards and is still today the only gfx card that is capable of smooth scrolling. This is why Amiga became so attractive for airports and shopping malls. Scala did the job very well. Also, software 3D is most beautifull. Hardware 3D is nice, but less details.
Most of the games is known in PC and Mac world. I never knew that this video would be so popular. It's main goal is to show that Amiga can do 3D too. So if you like to play 3D games but isnt the one that needs the newest game on the marked, Amiga have things to offer. This video aims at telling people like you that AmigaOS is special, its alive even in 2010 and its users wants it alive. They contribute and develope for this platform. I welcome you all to Amigaworld. Your all welcome
The wonderful thing about the Amiga bases OS's is that they never left the old way of operating systems. With too many bells and whistles you bog down the system to do more important things which is why the Amiga OS's are so damn fast. It is the cleanest and probably most efficient operating system for the common consumer, and in our case the uncommon consumer.
Hi. This runs on Amiga systems with PPC. Quake 1 runs on 68k but its noo fun. Some of the games is SDL specific games for MorphOS as thats the compatible AmigaOS which I use.
There are many great 3D games for Amiga. I just wanted to show a showcase. I also made 3D games for Amiga II :)
With AmigaOS reaching maturity there are a few software technologies missing that are classed as essential in 2010. When they are in place eg, Gallium 3D/Mesa there will be only minor technical reasons why a modern Amiga cannot run games that we see on the Wii, Xbox or PS3. Software developers and greater compatibility with open source efforts is what is needed.
Consumer computer technology peaked 4/5 years ago; there is absolutely no demand for faster computers as there was say 10 years ago.
Anything can be ported to Amiga.. People said that Quake would Never be Possible on Amiga.. It is possible!.. AmigaOS is more powerful than any other OS out there, its just all losers hanging after Windows and MacOSX that doesn't understand it.. huhu.. From joke to seriousness.. AmigaOS is capable of things like Crysis... sure it can! Start to port drivers or make Nvidia release their drivers for free like ATI does with their older cards... Amiga can do Quake4 and Doom 3 too. Stop spreading fuzz
What's the name of that 3D penguin game? Not seen that before. Which incarnation of AmigaOS does that run on and what are the recommended h/w specs to run it?
I've got an A1200 gathering dust here with PPC 240/060 & BPPC. OS 3.5. Never got OS4 for it as my storage is all SCSI and not sure if OS4 ever supported it.
Thats the spirit :) Same with me when I played Alien Breed 3D II The Killing Grounds :) even low fps, played :) fps is not always the key for playing hehe
@SpeedVideoz You're not serious are you? The PS3 has two PPC cores and 7 SPUs plus a GPU and 7.1 digital sound. You evangelism for Amiga is for an operating system. The hardware is completely dated. Let's see your Amiga run Heavenly Sword or the Uncharted series or Bayonetta, heck the Call of Duty games. I venture to say it couldn't even run Ratchet & Clank from the PS2.
Yes, the Amiga WAS a powerful machine in its day, but it's been over 20 years and it's now dated and old.

No other system gives the user so much freedom!
@cyberlord64 Because Microsoft began producing, cheap, inconsistent, faulty computors that can't stand up to Amiga's awesomeness. I don't understand it either, but Windows still sucks.
Basically what happened to amiga was Commodore wasn't so smart with their assets back in the 90's and tried to diversify too much. In other words they were trying to do too much at one time, so they sold their soul to Escom, which wanted nothing to do with the Amiga pretty much. And thus the Amiga slowly faded away, but not before having abilities to play Quake 3 thanks to expansion boards. However later this year the AmigaOne X1000 is to come out by A-Eon. I'm getting one.
hey man btw great vid! 5/5 really woke the nostalgia in me :D whats the name of the song starting at 4:00? i think heard some time it but if forgot the name.
Amiga 1200, Amiga 3000 and Amiga 4000 got PowerPC cards in 1997. Today Amiga is not just classic Amiga, but also AmigaONE, MicroA1, Pegasos, Pegasos II and MacMini G4. Amiga started its life on 68k like mac, but continues its life on PPC. I made this video to show that Amiga today can run this games. Maybe one day people understands that Amiga wasn't that bad after all which media and pc magazines wanted it to be.
Thank you for the information, it's good to know this all. My father and i own an Amiga 1200, but without Winchester. It's mostly only a reliq for our family, and a tool of retro-dose once in a year.
i have had the amiga 500 and it was the best machine for its time and years ahead.some big companys with money didnt like that and the result was the death of the amiga like the dreamcast console from sega same story
@Amix What magazines wanted Amiga to be bad ? When it first came out, it was GOD. But of course, compared to modern PCs it couldnt hang (the first amigas, I dont know about these new onces with real graphics card etc, those are not real amigas to me).
@Pszichopark Nah, my A1200 can play Heretic 2 just fine. Mind you, it's highly modified. But it also runs OS 4.1. It's not as good as the latest OS 4.1 capable systems, but it runs.
very impressive amix, i used to have an amiga and its lifespan lasted many more years then my consoles it was definately worth the money. But this amiga is far superior to my 500+ (i think thats what i had).
AMAZING! WHat kind of processing power does the amiga need to run things such as this, QUAKE etc? is it less or more than the PC equivelant. I have seen some A1200 demos in 3d, that looked superior to PS1 graphics and effects!
This is an presentation of 3D games on Amiga. I did only think of that. Even though Quake and Heretic II ain't Amiga games, they run on Amiga. That's the purpose of this video to show that Amiga can do it! People underestimate the powers of Amiga, because it's so much more easy to look towards x86 and Windows. It doesn't mean that richest companies is doing the right thing. Amiga lives today because of a healthy and creative community which I am very proud of.
Amiga today is the same. Its about braking barriers .. Soon MorphOS will have a 300% increase in GL graphics and also support for more ATI Radeon graphics cards.
Amiga have always done things on its own. Classic AmigaOS, AmigaOS4, MorphOS and AROS is all in the Amiga family today. You can be a part of it too and support it. If you have macmini g4, emac g4 or powerbook g4. Then you can try MorphOS for free. You also have SAM440p for AmigaOS4 +++ Amiga is about do things right
You are correct. You need Amiga with 68060 or PPC. Today Amiga is AmigaOS 3.x (classic), AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS. Amiga today is different from the days. Though, you have some nice 3D games that works on 030 Amiga too. Gloom Deluxe, Xtreme Racing, Alien Breed 3D etc... ADoom or DoomAttack also plays Doom quite ok on 030. Welcome to the new era of Amiga :)
i know that the smaller models (ie. a500 and a600) weren't capable of 3d rendering due to the hardware. i didn't think the bigger ones were that much better besides memory and a faster processor. Did they have a graphics chip so much more advanced? when did this model come out?
Great video !! I just subscibed, cool channel mate ! Could you possibly make a list of these games and what are they running on ? I own an amiga 4000T cyberstorm 68060 32mb Ram 2gb HD. I run os 3.9 and i am starting to uprgade the machine again...

It's mostly only a reliq for our family, and a tool of retro-dose once in a year.

amiga was great in the 80s, but lost market leadership to the pc in the 90s and on top of it all commodore went bankrupt in 1994

i have had the amiga 500 and it was the best machine for its time and years ahead.some big companys with money didnt like that and the result was the death of the amiga like the dreamcast console from sega same story

@Amix What magazines wanted Amiga to be bad ? When it first came out, it was GOD. But of course, compared to modern PCs it couldnt hang (the first amigas, I dont know about these new onces with real graphics card etc, those are not real amigas to me).
BringerOfTheTruth 1 year ago
@Pszichopark Nah, my A1200 can play Heretic 2 just fine. Mind you, it's highly modified. But it also runs OS 4.1. It's not as good as the latest OS 4.1 capable systems, but it runs.

very impressive amix, i used to have an amiga and its lifespan lasted many more years then my consoles it was definately worth the money. But this amiga is far superior to my 500+ (i think thats what i had).

AMAZING! WHat kind of processing power does the amiga need to run things such as this, QUAKE etc? is it less or more than the PC equivelant. I have seen some A1200 demos in 3d, that looked superior to PS1 graphics and effects!

some credits would be nice. I recognise only half of the games, having been out of the scene too long.

You know of course that those games are retro!

@Realmasterorder
You also have SAM440p for AmigaOS4 +++ Amiga is about do things right
Amix 1 year ago
that amiga must be modded alot cos my old 1200 could only play a doom clone in the screen size of a postage stamp
TrevHead10 2 years ago
You are correct. You need Amiga with 68060 or PPC. Today Amiga is AmigaOS 3.x (classic), AmigaOS 4, MorphOS and AROS. Amiga today is different from the days. Though, you have some nice 3D games that works on 030 Amiga too. Gloom Deluxe, Xtreme Racing, Alien Breed 3D etc... ADoom or DoomAttack also plays Doom quite ok on 030. Welcome to the new era of Amiga :)

which model of amiga was this running on?
i know that the smaller models (ie. a500 and a600) weren't capable of 3d rendering due to the hardware. i didn't think the bigger ones were that much better besides memory and a faster processor. Did they have a graphics chip so much more advanced? when did this model come out?
cheers.
NeoHoshi 2 years ago
These are on the AGA.
AGA was first used in the Amiga 4000 in 1992 and it can calculate this kinda stuff.
Also it seems that this one used PowerPC card.
You can render 3D on older OCS and ECS Amigas too.
You should see demos like "hardknee lotus" , "hideous mutant freaks" and "Arte". They are for the Amiga 500.
