@anacolangelo EMI is (for sure) not protecting HER rights, they protect their pockets, nothing more. Kim is a great artist, I know Kim's music because of my mom, & she's really a great artist, like july211985 said "she know how to make a song that everyone would enjoy" and because of that & the downloads she's very well known. Arts and the industry are very different, many people indeed buy her songs when they listen or download. Sharing is not stealing, Industry must evolve with technology.

This is one of THE great songs of the 80s. Carnes has a great voice, the lyrics and music are brilliant and the video concept is fantastic. Carnes was really a straight standard pop singer, but starred in one of the best New Romantic videos ever made.
@arkady714 LOL! Well said. Problem is, there are two 80's - the real, culturally rich 80's that were really the late seventies thru 1983, maybe 1984, and then the crappy 80's, post 84, when the corporate world took over and turned everything into sh**.
@GoblinsFriend I agree with you to an extent and add that the crappy part of the '80s (a prelude to the '90s) contained a backlash against the early part of the decade with acts like 10,000 Maniacs, Suzanne Vega and Tracey Chapman. They sang against the social injustice, apathy and sense of entitlement (see "Bush, GHW") that were by products of the hedonism of '80-'84. Throw in the advent of the "boy group" and big hair metal and you had something silly that we were no longer a part of.
@arkady714 I agree with you. I was a big fan of Vega, 10,000 Maniacs, Chapman, Michelle Shocked, et al. Thing is, they were the beginning of a new era really - they ushered in what we thought of as the nineties - conscious, mature, sincerely sophisticated, unpretentiosu. Meanwhile what we thought of as EIGHTIES - over the top, flashy, image-obsessed, self-involved - was dying on the vine.
@GoblinsFriend I think it was more of a backlash. But Gen X started their lives with a pragmatism and gentle persistence that basically upset their elders.
That a new generation was taking over prompted jealous boomers to invent the term "Gen X," as if theirs was the last generation to have or deserve an identity! LOL! And it drove them nuts when people stopped caring what they thought.

@arkady714 LOL! And totally agree. I was not mad about the nineties, but rather had and have a warm fondness. Agree too that what really upset the core boomers was that there were finally young folks who did not worship everything in the boomer yearbook.
@GoblinsFriend the 90's will make a comeback in the end of this decade. it takes about 20 years for nostalgia to reign. This is why the 80's made such a recent comeback. it comes in cycles. the 90's is up next and we will remember the music with just as much fondness as we did the 80's.

@anacolangelo EMI is (for sure) not protecting HER rights, they protect their pockets, nothing more. Kim is a great artist, I know Kim's music because of my mom, & she's really a great artist, like july211985 said "she know how to make a song that everyone would enjoy" and because of that & the downloads she's very well known. Arts and the industry are very different, many people indeed buy her songs when they listen or download. Sharing is not stealing, Industry must evolve with technology.

This is one of THE great songs of the 80s. Carnes has a great voice, the lyrics and music are brilliant and the video concept is fantastic. Carnes was really a straight standard pop singer, but starred in one of the best New Romantic videos ever made.

@GoblinsFriend I agree with you to an extent and add that the crappy part of the '80s (a prelude to the '90s) contained a backlash against the early part of the decade with acts like 10,000 Maniacs, Suzanne Vega and Tracey Chapman. They sang against the social injustice, apathy and sense of entitlement (see "Bush, GHW") that were by products of the hedonism of '80-'84. Throw in the advent of the "boy group" and big hair metal and you had something silly that we were no longer a part of.

Thing is, they were the beginning of a new era really - they ushered in what we thought of as the nineties - conscious, mature, sincerely sophisticated, unpretentiosu. Meanwhile what we thought of as EIGHTIES - over the top, flashy, image-obsessed, self-involved - was dying on the vine.

@GoblinsFriend I think it was more of a backlash. But Gen X started their lives with a pragmatism and gentle persistence that basically upset their elders.
That a new generation was taking over prompted jealous boomers to invent the term "Gen X," as if theirs was the last generation to have or deserve an identity! LOL! And it drove them nuts when people stopped caring what they thought.
I'm not mad about the '90s, but I do respect their voice and views.

@GoblinsFriend the 90's will make a comeback in the end of this decade. it takes about 20 years for nostalgia to reign. This is why the 80's made such a recent comeback. it comes in cycles. the 90's is up next and we will remember the music with just as much fondness as we did the 80's.
