Any clue if there is any videos of damage surveys (aerial or otherwise) for this tornado? I thought there was one taken from the air, but I can't seem to find it anymore. If anyone here has an idea, please comment.
I was there in my hometown when this tornado hit. There was devastation and the house I was in got skipped. But the cellar door had to be held down by four men in my family I was three years old at the time. This was a time I will never forget. We were lucky compared to Joplin my heart goes out to the lost and family who lost that day! God bless
That's what I'm wondering too. I live in Pampa and our sirens are not that loud. They probably are on you just can't hear them cause they are not that loud.
@NataliesDrawings Strong possibility. I just thought it was funny because this tornado is so big and the sirens aren't even on. i was half expecting a person pushing a baby carriage on the side of the road. lol
hey guys, i'm reading about tornado outbreaks on wikipedia and i'm going to read about two tornadoes that hit austin on may 4, 1922. so far, i've read they started off as one tornado then were separated by lightning. i have never heard of tornadoes being separated like that before. i recommend reading about this one.
Naahh! That's a pussy tornado.Lol, yeah right! I used to have a vhs tape with this footage and they said some of that debris was entire garages and propane tanks, and I don't mean the little bbq ones.
@alyssya13 wow. i was in canton with my friend and parents and we had severe weather the last night we were there, so we had to leave the rv park we were in for walmart. one of my parents said somebody said they saw clouds rotating across from the walmart. i wanted to go home! (i'm from new orleans).
At 5:50 you can see 2 large objects being spat out to the left side of the tornado. These objects happen to be CARS.
This footage shows the true power of a tornado better than any other that has been filmed. How many other tornados that have been caught on camera show you the devastating power of a tornado like this one does? I can't find any.
For tornado enthusiasts, the Pampa 1995 Tornado is legendary.
@Dazarooni if you search the Heston, Kansas tornado of 1990, you will see a huge cloud of "dust" being sucked into the funnel (which was rated an F-5) According to news reports, it demolished a cement factory and that dust was cement being taken in. Another note for tornado enthusiasts, this tornado in Pampa was moving in the opposite direction of the parent supercell.
I was hiding in a basement in Pampa during this bad boy. We were lucky that thing thing lifted after tearing up the industrial section. It went directly over us and came back down east of town. Scary day.
i know.this is where i live.Pampa is a small town but its really cool.Pampa has a lot of history of tornados.when this happened i lived on price road!!=O
Sorry AlbertaGamer, in my own humble opinion, I've yet to see better footage of how destructive a tornado can be, you can see cars and trucks being blown about like leaves in a breeze in this.
This is the most impressive example of "Debris" effect I personally have ever seen. In fact wasn't this video the one in which it shows amongst the debris being thrown, a 30,000 lb., or 15 ton (!) piece of farm equipment being hurled through the air; the heaviest thing ever picked up and thrown by a tornado?
I met a guy at one of our hunting camps he was in Pampa and said you could feel the tornado in your body. he was a mile from it, he said every time they had a thunder torm he would sleep in his basement. Would never stay in a trailer home. He has never been so scaired.
I was actually living in Pampa when this tornado hit. I was working during the time and saw this while driving. I immediately drove to my parents house. I gathered up their animals and my mother and went down the block to a shelter. Some of us from the block stood outside and watched it. I remember it raining isolation as we were standing there. Me and some friends had helped red cross clean up and I remember seeing a Winnebago wrapped around a tree near a foundation where a house once was.
I remember that day. I was at home I lived rite accross from chicken express. I looked out my front door and there it was. It was scarry, but neet at the same time. That day there were a total of twelve. the one on film was an f-4
This is mother nature. You can't control this force. That tornado will destroy what it wants, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. The best thing to do is to get to safety.
the videographer, really getss itt rright from 5:27-6:02. too awesome. one of the best exxampless of this monster storm's poweer. if i'm not mistaken, wasn't this footage studiedd? also, didn't it pick up a several ton train car?
It was. I just saw this video in a meteorology class today. I don't know if it picked up any train cars, but if I remember correctly a warehouse about 100 feet long was picked up almost intact by this thing. People who analyzed this video found six vehicles in the circulation. Can you find them? I can see three.
This is one of the rare close-up tornado footages that shows cars and a pick-up trucks being lifted and tossed a great distance. I was speechless when I saw this!
we live on alcock st rigth 2 blocks away from price road n i still remember that day my son now 14 he was a 2 years old n my wife take him to the next door on the seller n his back was a bounch of bruses for the hail
Damn, I don't hear a second voice, there is no way in hell you are driving and filming that thing at the same time. Holy shit, you do NOT fuck with tornadoes!
I lived right off of HWY 152 and Sumner St. just behind the Minute Mart. I remember this clearly, I had my two year old son in my arms and was 9 mnths pregnant with my daughter. Pampa really did a good job of notifying everyone. but I remember still only having about 5 min warning. That sucker cut right across town it was a big SOB. After the fact it was labeled an F4, but preliminary reports called it an F3. Pampa was real lucky that day, no one died.
I was delivering pizza during this tornado. My boss gave me the option of coming inside to the freezer or taking the delivery across town. The twister looked to be headed right to our store, so I took the delivery. It was crazy!!!!
When meteorologists finally 'crack' the tornado, it will be considered one of the best scientific advancements of all time. Its been such a difficult area for them to deal with. I have nothing but respect for their relentless efforts in tryin to understand these powerful forces of nature.
they ran a red light cuz the dude in the car is a sheriff hence the radio and siren. the thing started out as a F3 but was later "upgraded" to F4. i know all this cuz i had to do a report on tornados for school and i checked out a tornado video and this was on there plus they interviewed him
Those were cars being tossed around...I mean as a meteorologist you understand that it's possible, but to see it happen is something else. That was a monster.

Thanks for posting! Everytime I drive through Pampa down those roads i think about that tornado. Definitely one of the biggest storms I have ever seen.

Can you expand on what you just said? Are you saying that if there was no downdraft, this tornado could have been an F5, or are you just saying that the funnel would have gotten bigger?
vanni9283 4 years ago
Hi there :)
To my understanding of tornadoes, a downdraft withing the immidiate vacinity either internal or external, then these slow down the rotational updraft, therefore making a tornado's strength and width a bit less, than what it could have potentially been, but that is not always the case.

So thus, the downdraft prevented the tornado from becoming both stronger and wider, am I correct in that assessment?
