At 2:10 in the video, you place the mic in the correct position. The Yeti is a side address mic, so for best performance, you need to speak into the side of the screen with the mute button facing you. Try putting the mic in the vertical position like this, re positioning the pop filter and turning down the gain a bit. You will get MUCH less ambient noise and better recordings.
Rob there is a proper shock mount designed for the mic so no need to so to such lengths:) Also how can the orphanage be 'yours'? You are in Austrailia and the kids are in Africa. I'm sure Jesus would be looking for more humility from you.
I ordered the Yeti about six months ago and last week I saw your video setting up the Yeti to the shock mount. So, I ordered the stand and shock mount but the screw that came with the shock mount is a bit larger than the screw hole on the Yeti. I am a bit confused. Help Please!
@DonKellieJr the correct shock mount for the yeti and yeti pro is the "Radius" mount, the one in this video is the "Ringer" mount. Go to the home page of yeti and look at products and accesories
Do you have usb 3.0 or 2.0 on your computer? btw I'm trying to get my comp to recognize my blue yeti, i bought the pro model and I can't seem to connect it to my comp it keeps saying it failed to install properly when i plugged it in. Also when i plug my headphones into the mic itself and turn up the volume i can hear myself. what am i doing wrong? please recommend me a solution.
This is a great DIY alternative for a Yeti shockmount, until the custom one is released. Just a note, the Yeti and Yeti Pro are side address mics, which means they capture sound best around the sides of the mic, not directly into the top. Thanks for posting!
@AmpphyGFX Just play the video again and notice them . . . (1) the Yeti (2) the "Snowball" brand of shock mount (3) a pop filter that would screw onto the shock mount (4) a small desk stand that would screw into the shock mount (5) one screw to screw the Yeti onto the shock mount. That's all there is to it. All the best.
@hagins16 Sorry, I am not up to speed with Windows platforms for recording. But, the Yeti is pretty good quality and so your experiencing a slight delay is unusual . . . maybe your power to the usb port is too low.
the mic sits vertical not horizontal. talk to the side of the mic not the top of it.

Most people just order a new microphone after seeing so much difficulty with the Blue Yeti microphone. Oh well, that's what I'm gonna do.

The correct shock mount for the yeti and yeti pro is the radius. But still cool to see it mounts on the ringer as well

I would like to hear some of your recordings. Where can I find them? Can you email me a copy of a short audio clip?

Just a heads up that you have the mic set up wrong. Mic is not meant to talk into the top of it. You need to talk into it from the front.

I just order this mic too. I don't know if my desk will produce a noise with this mic or not .
I am thinking of put a layer of adsorbent material under the Yeti basement. Do you think it should work or not?

They just came out with the shockmount for the yeti called "The Radius". It looks exactly like this. Just a modified ringer shockmount.

What size screw did you use; I purchased several and they are either to long or to wide.

You should not point the micro like that... you are basically blowing air on top of the condenser capsules....

It should fit . . . the yeti is a heavy mic though, so check the balance so the mic doesn't over stress your arm.

Hi Rob,
Thank you so much for your video. I was wondering if you think the shock mount and Yeti would fit on a boom arm like the Rode PSA-1 Studio Boom Arm ?
The adapter is 3/8" and appears to be universal.
The audio sounds great! Thanks again!
