This is how it is, and I agree with the person who said it's safer there than in America - because the drivers actually know how to drive and are totally aware of the space they're in. I got pretty good at crossing the streets, and only once I had to give up and get in a rickshaw just to cross the street and go a block to the hotel. Most of the time, though, you can get across - just like the filmmaker did.

I've just come back from India and I can say if anything, this is an understatement! It was sheer hell and fuckin terryfying and I tried to avoid doing it whenever I could. The drivers are so rude and will push through at crossings even though you have the right of way. When I crossed at a crossing, a car could clearly see I was making my way across, but made no attempt to slow down and avoid me. Another time, I would've died under the wheels of a bus if the guy I was with hadn't pulled me away.

This is not an exaggeration one bit. Actually a lot of the places I saw when I went to India were even crazier. And to whoever said "they's just honkin cuz that aint a crosswalk!" your wrong. In India they honk at everything and everything is a crosswalk.

In India faster and bigger vehicle gets the right of the way (not by law though).. I've two sides to my driving, when I am riding my motorbike and when I am driving my SUV.. on bike I try my best to yield to the bigger vehicles, trucks, buses and all.. when in my SUV its opposite..
