  • Help bring back the middle class? Can you even define middle class?

Seems like if it doesn't give individual workers the right to choose their own health care provider it leaves them at the mercy of someone else's will, be that of the employer or that of their fellow employees.

But I digress, what is middle class again? And what does class have to do with health care choice? What if I'm of the lower class working with middle class people; would this not benefit me?

  • scottkristle is a corporate troll. EFCA preserves the right to a secret ballot election, if the EMPLOYEES choose. Get it? Employee free CHOICE.

  • What does that have to do with healthcare? What does the option for a non-secret ballot have to do with having no individual say over what insurance provider they are trusting their health to?

    Seems fishy no?

  • Why do the unions want to eliminate the opportunity for a private ballot election during a union drive; however, in the even of a decertification campaign, a secret ballot would still be required. Let's get real about the motives of this bill - increase union revenue.

  • Oh don't you know? The option for a non-secret ballot is intrinsically related to healthcare and employees having a choice in choosing what doctors and....

actually, the case hasn't been made has it?

funny how that works isn't it?

  • If it was up to be, all unions would be outlawed, declared to be terrorist groups, then hammered with both RICO and the Patriot Act. Their assets and property would be seized, their members and supporters would be executed or sent to Gitmo to do butt pyramids with their mudscum butt buddies.

  • Go Union!

Most of the rights that American workers enjoy today were fought for an won by unions.

Want lower wages?Longer hours?Less pay? Want to get fired because you need a day off to take care of a sick child?

Then stick with the conservatives who want to keep American workers poor, in debt to big banks, and powerless to fight back against the corporate fascism of the right.

  • Brian- those who can't remember the past are condemned to repeat it. That's what happens when schools don't teach history, especially labor history.

  • "Then stick with the conservatives who want to keep American workers poor, in debt to big banks,"

Learn a skill and don't buy what you can't afford or don't have cash for.

"and powerless to fight back against the corporate fascism of the right."

I see the Useless Auto Workers and MoveOn have you well trained to parrot their lame talking points. Fascists are ATHEIST LIBERALS.

  • You have a problem with atheists now?

  • What's so good about atheists? When you're burning in Hell, I'll be up in Heaven laughing at your sorry pathetic worthless ass. If you scream in agony loud enough, I might send down a drop of water- no I wont! LOL!!

  • Religion is a metaphor that helps people live good lives. It cannot be used as excuses for conflicts, tools for politics, or explanations for the origins of the universe

  • I am a Union worker and I am totally against the SEIU. And have been every since they stated it.Yes it's a form of socialism. Everyone with one pay, no matter what job it is.

    NO CARD BUYERS!!!

Go through the apprenticeship programs or stay out of the unions.

  • Of course your boss giving you a raise isn't going to happen by itself. How about EARNING IT? Unions are a rip off.

  • Without unions, all too many bosses wouldn't give a raise no matter how well earned it was. We'd end up like Mexico or Brazil or China or Thailand, with 2-10% rich, 5-15% middle class, and everyone else in desperate grinding poverty.

  • Even Adam Smith, hardly a socialist, said that CEO's shouldn't be paid more than 30-50 times the income of their entry level workers. So how can anyone justify CEO's getting 500+ times that amount? Am I the only one who sees something wrong with that picture?

  • They are the boss, that is what CEO means, Chief Executive Officer. So if you feel that you are worth 30-50 times you are being paid, then by all means, start your own company and sink or swim.

The price paid for workers is directly related to the supply of workers and the demand of workers with that specialty. I Increase your marketable job skills and you will see your opportunities increase dramatically.

  • The CEO being worth 30-50 times the pay of their workers isn't an issue. It's the CEO's making 300-500+ times the income that needs to be addressed. No CEO is worth 500 times the pay of an entry level employee, no matter how much experience they have.

And it doesn't do much good to increase your skills when the CEO can move your job overseas or bring in foreign guest workers willing to do the same jobs for a fraction of what you can afford to live on.

  • We have college graduates, many with advanced degrees, who are flipping burgers or working at WalMart, because the jobs they'd trained for got eliminated, shipped overseas, or given to H1-B visa guest foreign guest workers, and the fast food/WalMart jobs were the only ones available. And that's when they aren't being turned down for those jobs as "overqualified" or having to compete with illegals willing to do those jobs for $5 an hour or less.

  • Americans stay in school too long. We don't need anyone still studying liberal arts when they're 25 years old. Kids need to get a job as soon as they finish 6th grade unless they're planning to specialize in something like accounting. Get a job and learn it- that's a REAL education. And Mexicans do better work than Americans. My brother's construction firm will only hire Mexicans, who are perfectly happy working for $2-$3 an hour and a free lunch. That's how Americans should work.

  • "Kids need to get a job as soon as they finish 6th grade "

    You bastard

    "Fascists are ATHEIST LIBERALS. "

Actually, a Facist is one who wantst to take away freedom and people's rights. A good example of a facist is Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, and the guy I'm talking to right now.

  • What about the employer's freedom? Unions and labor laws violate that? What about the unborn's freedom? Abortion violates that? What about our right to not be exposed to filth?

  • Workers freedom does not violate Employer's freedom.

  • Yeah, let's be like West Virginia in the 1800's. After all an illiterate country is a prosperous one, right? Your brother only hires Mexicans? What's the name of his company? So you think Americans should work for less than subsistence wages? I guess you don't mind paying extra taxes for the food stamps and other public assistance illegals and others getting paid below subsistence level wages have to rely on to make ends meet?

  • "It's the CEO's making 300-500+ times the income that needs to be addressed. No CEO is worth 500 times the pay of an entry level employee"

That's because those CEO's made 500 times more money for their companies than their workers. That's capitalism and freedom. If you don't like it, you can move to Cuba, North Korea, Russia, Venezuela, Peru, France, Sweden, Canada, or some other commie socialist lib shithole country, Komrade!

  • If EFCA was law, I'd have a union right now. No questions asked, just a simple majority card vote.

  • We have seen the consequences of union busting over the last 27 years of trickle down economic policies. The middle class is disappearing thanks to the loss of collective bargaining rights. Unions can help to increase wages and create a decent working environment.

  • Unions have worked so well for the Big 3. Although they have over 50% of the market share they still are failing miserably. Could that have something to do with their employee's being compensated more than double of their non union counter parts at American plants like Toyota? There is no motivation to work hard because compensation is based on performance in a union and extorting your employers leads to company failure. I hope the big three don't get bailed out so all the union workers can rot.

  • ThirdHonk Republican spin against Unions. The Big Three are begging for the bailout , not the Unions.

  • That's not the point. The big 3 need a bailout because of the unions.

  • And crappy, gas-guzzling car designs and inept management(who still get rewarded with golden parachute packages worth millions) had nothing to do with it? Yeah, blame it all on the unions, that's so much easier.

  • Ive been in meetings where my manager asked me about union activity and let me tell you its a scary and very intimidating thing to go through. They tried convincing us that a union would kill the company and suck "dues" for corrupt union bosses.

It doesnt get more corrupt that the corporate bosses and the way they used the legal system to cover themselves in preventing us from getting a union.

Employee Free Choice Act is about better jobs and better wages, very well said in the ad.

  • I've got an idea, if you don't like your job or your pay then go find another. No one forces you to work anywhere and no one owes you a job. You are there to work for your employer, if you don't feel you are compensated enough for your work leave. It's a great idea to base pay on extortion rather than job performance, that will increase productivity won't it?? Union's are socialist organizations and completely against productivity.

  • ThirdHonk I've got an idea, stop intimidating people from forming or joining a Union. That's McCarthyistic and fascist, and totally against Constitution. Do you harass stockholders too?

  • ThirdHonk If you don't like this video, why don't you turn it off? We are here for the Unions, you are clearly here just to harass people. Corporations are against productivity, do you see how CEO's are compensated even when they are fired?

  • That's not so easy when there are no other jobs or all the other employers are doing pretty much the same thing. Maybe you'd be willing to give up having weekends and holidays off? After all it was unions who gave us those. I suppose you'd also have no problem with child labor coming back- it was unions who got that abolished.

  • Barack Obama and Dems do not believe in democracy they would rather kiss Organized Labor Bosses collective butts instead

    Obama/Dems>Unions>Union Member dues>Dem PAC's>Dem Donations>Dem Candidates

AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Richard Trumka played the "race card/white guilt card"

"Theres not a single good reason for any worker - especially any union member - to vote against Barack Obama, he said. Theres only one really bad reason to vote against him: because hes not white."

  • Employees already have the right to choose to form a union by secret ballot. The Employee Free Choice Act takes away the right to a secret ballot and allows unionization with a majority sign-up of union authorizations that employees can be intimidated by the union into providing. Some of the other provisions of the act are good, but I'm opposed to getting rid of secret ballots for unionization.

  • The secret ballot allows time for the employer to intimidate employees not to join. The card check allows employees to say yes or no to a union. If they are intimidated by people that they don't work for (the union) they can tell their employers or the police. It doesn't work that way when their employers threaten them.

  • "Ask yourself: if the unions dont want to abolish the secret ballot so that they will be free to intimidate workers, then why do they want to abolish the secret ballot?"

"Barack Obama -- fighting to reduce worker free choice" @Power Line

  • PMGYT, LOOK AT THE ACTUAL WORDING IN THE e.f.c.a, IT ONLY "ADDS" THE RIGHT TO JOIN A UNION BY "MAJORITY CARD CHECK" ......IF THE EMPLOYEES CHOOSE TO GO TO SECRET BALLOT THEN THEY STILL CAN.....AGAIN....READ THE WORDING ON THE BILL NOW IN ITS "PRE LEGISLATIVE FORM" WHAT YOU ARE POSTING IS NEAL BORTS-RUSH-HANIDY, TALKING POINTS....THE BILL'S OFFICIAL DESIGNATION IS H.R. 500??? I THINK.

  • I really don't understand the hatred that is thrown at Unions. They're not perfect or saintly, but some of these supposed free market supporters seem to act like a worker's wage is just another form of welfare that should be abolished. It's really frightening.

  • Ever tried to organize a union? Employees don't have free choice. They have harrasment, threats, intimidation and job loss. How is that a free choice? This is a good bill.

The surest way to get money back into the hands of working people and to stabilize our economy is to unionize our workforce and reward hard work. A strong middle class is the engine which drives our economy and the best way to build that middle class is with union labor.

  • Yes, well said, riverbilly224.

  • How do employees NOT have a free choice now to unionize? What isn't free about a secret ballot?

When Unions can't win legitimately they use thugs to force their way. And destroy the American economy in the process. I'm from Michigan, I know.

    Hope everyone's paid their dues!

  • Because with the current process companies know exactly who signed the cards to ask for the vote and usually fire them beforehand. Threats are also big, while the 'union avoidance" law firms are sprung into action and making sure the McDonalds and Wal-Mart employees are terrified to vote yes for a union. Open your eyes.

  • Hey Neal Borts....sorry I mean "fairtaxhtown" In stead of spewing right wing radio B.S. try doing some actual reaserch into the facts.......The NLRB recorded about 40,000 cases where the "EMPLOYER" was taken before the National labor relations board for unfair labor practices where some form of worker intimidation was envolved, Union "thugs" about 20......I can't make those numbers up, it is on the government web. I will post it when I find it.

  • So we already have laws to prevent unfair practices. I want to cast my vote without pressure from co-workers or union representatives watching - that's equally important as my employer not watching!!
