we all know there are a million jokes that could be brought up in these section. But really this section makes me think of the cheerleaders and jocks heading straight to make out point.
sadly to stay this but that whole first scene as a kid gave me a boner...ii dont know why...but it did again i think its because of that white haired one...shes so beautiful this whole movie is perfect
...maybe there's no black ones because they are CENTARS not HUMANS! Hmmm I wonder why there are blue centars in this clip but no blue humans. Who cares, it is a beautiful cartoon not made for this obsessivly PC time or place. Antoher thing people could bang on about is why do all the female centars blush n act so submissive isn't that a bit sexist. it's cos it was made 60+ years ago!
the black centuar were edited out of the original in the 1960 because it they viewed as a racist stereotype i believe their was one donkey-centaur that is seen polishing one of the centaur girls hooves she was also seen putting flowers in one of their tails also she was seen leading Bacchus up the stairs to his chair and there was also two zebra-centaurs that lead Bacchus in but that's supposed to be in the next clip
@KatyKamu Well, actually, in the original there were black ones. But they were based on offensive caricatures, and instead of being beautiful horses like the centaur females in this video, they were little donkeys, and they were servants. And it was so NOT PC that they had to change it in the 1980's. It's actually kinda interesting to see how culture has changed like that. i would suggest you look it up.
I have to agree its a bit stupid that they paired the centaurs based on colouring but typically people pick their "mate" based on attributes they see in themselves; so i suppose the designers may have gone with that thinking?
@brunomassey Maybe I am missing something if you guys have redirected the conversation at some point... but there ARE black centaurs in this clip, a lot of them actually, as well as many other skin colours.
The start of this segment is very sensuous and almost erotic with what looked like some beautiful topless girls bathing in a lake. Especially if you consider that this was intended for an audience in the early 1940’s. Perhaps this was one of the reasons other than the little stereotypical black centaur helpers, that the segment was cut from this otherwise fine work of art and culture.
@NicoleHalsey13 In the uncut version, there was a black centaur - a little maid with braided hair who 'shined' their hoofs and stuff. Back in the 30s and 40s racist humor was common - even in Looney Tunes - so Disney was the rule, rather than the exception. It was tasteless humor which looks worse in hindsight, but it was not hateful or intentionally malicious. Not much has changed, though. People easily forget how much racial stereotyping went into films like Shark Tale, for instance.
I dont know how they could call this racist, they dont seem to mind it, plus i havnt seen any centaurs running around complaining about it, people like this who think something so artistic is racist the ones who know so much about racism that they probably do it themselves
@catsmungrump a lot of the scenes that have been called racist have been cut and deleted. In the original, the centaur girls had small black maid centaurs that were ugly in comparison. Your comment is understandable. Watching this version is clean but you can find parts of the deleted scenes on line.
you know forget my last comment I'm not going to go by what people around me say or argue about, I only care about the art, and the beauty of it, art is art no matter how you people put it or see it.
Walt Disney was not racist people, there is a web site that tells you that he was not at all like anything you think. i'm going to say this in a loving friendly way.... CHECK YOUR FACTS!!! before you lazily agree with others. and if you don't believe me I will email you the website.
i don't know why ppl think it's sooo out of line to bring race into the picture....it's a known fact that Disney is, and especially back then was, racist. Why be so on guard about it...defensive much? I mean COME ON ppl@ all you do is make excuses so that you feel better abt liking it and connecting to it...doesn't erase the fact that it's racist. sorry! it's not hidden here. The only black centars are the "African" ones with zebra legs. not pretty. but i guess it just makes u chuckle
He's not being racist. i know i see more white then black sometimes but it's things are but i dont like racist people. i love disney & i think the only thing that is rude are the fact the girls have not got proper tops on!!!!
fact: disney was racist. but think of the times. this was made in the 40s. segregation in schools wasn't abolished until the late fifties. so quit freakin out and watch the movie!
I dunno what Disney meant, but I always thought the color pairings represented matched souls rather than matched skin colors- that there's someone out there who will match you no matter what color or who you are. :)
@SilveredBlue That is how I saw it, two :) I always thought that the only reason that there was two blue ones left was because there were right for each other because they were soul mates, not just blue :)
@SilveredBlue thats exactly what i then when i see it and i guess what walt disney meant too,i hate all this racism shit, doing it nowdays would probably mean to mix the centaurus to be "politically corect"and to agvoid this senseless criticism about being racist, bleah.
Beautiful and inspiring music! I am amazed that Disney could have been so imaginative and this fits in perfectly with the music. I have watched Fantasia since I was born, but it always astonishes me!! Disney- please stop making idiotic and inappropriate shows like Hannah Montana and Sonny and Wizards and Jonas and all the rest. Please go back to the wonderful animated classics you once had!! There are better appreciated now- and more entertaining and educational!!

its nice to see the centaurs are just as bigoted as we are. Notice that every color except brown can prance around, even blue, which isnt even a real skin tone. Yeah yeah, lets all try and justify this crap. Its not even that great an animation
@gayofuako its just the thought of having your own perfect match out there. its not meant to be racist at all. this is about the simplicity of love at first sight. knowing that this person is the one. you dont have to get all technical about it.
I used to love this when I was a little girl. I thought they were so pretty, my favorite one was the one with the white hair and red horse-part. So nice to see it again after all those years
@DieEdle the same in so many ways. this was my favorite movie and this is the first time in 10 yrs that ive seen it. it may not be that many to other people, but its forever when your 15. i missed the simple innocence of this =]
The color pairing is most likely to simply keep the color balance of the art. Stylistic, not commentary Though it's funny how many view it as such when they;re more worried about a harmless over the top black girl shining a few shoes, carrying some flowers, and proudly trapezing .another girl around.
@TitaniumSeraph of course!! is like real world: i'm latin... you're latin, i'm catholic... you're catholic, i'm german... you're german, and i'm a jew and i go to hell
This is not the original version. The original had an african centaur named sunflower who was a slave. This version is censored art, and disney is trying to cover up their racist past. I say preserve it instead of covering it up. It's art, no matter how wrong it is.
@BarmyCoolPants Which is interesting to me. Because in the Pegasus scene in Part 1, wasn't there a black and white pegasus couple and they had a pegasus pony that had a black coat but white mane?
