A loss isn't a loss. Losing a game at home or on a neutral field is worse than losing a game away, in hostile environs. Losing a blow-out game is worse than losing a close game. Both Texas and OU stayed up at the top of the polls, at least partly because their losses weren't blow-out losses like Tech's 44-point loss was.

Of the top 3 teams in the Big 12 south, both OU and Tech had worse losses than Texas. Texas was (and is) the better team of the 3.
