paul you cant really fix this but i have a suggeston its very simple when you have the blade of lava sometimes will burn the items so you wont get much items as you really want and your creeper problem how they dont spawn as much you know creepers are a pain so motch desided to make creepers not spawn as well then before and for my suggeston do what your doing right nowbut no lava blade so they just fall down enough from fall damage they die and you can just walk in and grab the items

Just watch the video from notch showing and talking about everything in it :) you get to see the ENDERMAN! (hes black and looms like a squid with long legs and has gold eyes! And damages you a lot) the Enderman is only hostile if you look at him and then try and run that is why he teleports =]
