  • On this date in 1969 {Feb. 15th} "My Whole World Ended" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it would peak at #9 and spent 10 weeks in the Top 100

    Ranked No. 97 on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1969 chart

    Reached #2 on Billboard's R&B chart

The group "The Originals" sang back-up on this record...

  • I like the flute intro at the beginning of the song.

  • Dennis Edwards couldn't do that: frame 2:25, lol

  • The voice...nuff said!!!

  • "Im David Ruffin and these are the Temptations" lol!!!

  • Talent continues even aftr being dismissed. Fifty years later he still is the face of the Temptations.

  • R.I.P. David Ruffin. Happy Birthday Also!

  • Great song and a great voice. This is my favorite Motown song. It's too bad that his personal life was such a mess and prevented him from being so much more.

  • David ruffin was Good but I think Dennis Edwards was just as Good as him if not better!

  • @TheAdradradr DENNIS EDWARDS COULDN'T REALLY MOVE. DAVID COULD CAPTURE THE AUDIENCE WITH SINGING, DANCING AND OTHER GESTURES. DON'T GET ME WRONG, DENNIS BROUGHT THEM NUMBER ONES TO THE TABLE ALSO. BUT HE WASN'T GOOD AS DAVID.

  • @TheAdradradr I agree. I think Dennis was a much more powerful singer. They were different, but I prefer Dennis' style.

  • YOU JUST HAVE HAD TO LIVE BACK IN THE SIXTIES,

  • back in those days were just cool

  • @tazamack12 That is because without David Ruffin.....They ain't NUFFIN! lol

  • @tazamack12 You are so right!!!! David Ruffin was the best lead ever!!!!!!!

  • This should have been the start of further greatness from "greatness", as opposed to the

    start of future comebacks.

Few remember how huge David Ruffin was in the black community, "crossing over" to

white America with (then) the Tempts, this record had it all.

Lead singer at the pinnacle of his talent, exquisite lyrics, and The Fella's (The Originals!!!)

    singing every background verse.

This song is the beginning of a downhill journey for a fella who was the King at Motown.

  • Drugs!!

  • Sad...so thin from all the crack cocaine...died later in a crack house. :(

  • Livi is the man,, bro

  • To me, David Ruffin had one of the most beautiful, soulful voices ever. The anguish he conveyed. Those paper-shredded vocals. The gospel-styled phrasing. Very few male singers could tell a story like Ruffin. Sure, he was troubled like his friend Marvin Gaye; yet, I think his somewhat complex nature made him appealing. Dennis Edwards was very, very good. His voice best suited the fast-paced, "psychedelic" phase of the Tempts, but Ruffin's voice had a charisma like Sam Cooke and Wilson Pickett.

  • his voice was so xxl but b serios lmao he so ugly

  • @Mr1223able Tammi Terrell didn't think so. Its all about the music. He was a singer not a fashion model.

  • DAVID RUFFIN WILL BE FEATURED ON UNSUNG FEB 27,2011 10PM EST,THATS A MONDAY.PL TUNE IN MAYBE YOU CAN GATHER SOME FACTS,ENJOY THE MUSIC, KEEP ALL OF THAT HERE SAY TO YOURSELF!!!!!!!

  • @TheNikki810 THANKS!!! I HATE WHEN PEOPLE COME ON HERE TALKING ABOUT D.R. LIKE THEY KNEW HIM PERSONAL... I will be watching for D.R. ON Feb 27 2012....... Thank you again for the info...

  • HOW DO YOU KNOW RUFFIN WAS GAY? CAN YOU PROVE IT? WHY WOULD YOU SLANDER A DEAD MAN THAT CANT DEFEND HIMSELF? YOU MUST BE DEALING WITH YOUR OWN SHORT COMINGS,STAY OFF THIS SITE WITH YOUR ISSUES AND MESS

    NOBODY WANTS TO HERE IT!!!!!!

  • what a wasted life

  • The perfect record..................

    David's vocals

A haunting tune about a lost love (Tammi Terrell?)

And the legendary Originals (The Fella's) sangin' background.

  • who else went back to see the hand move at "beautiful" again?

  • @jontejay24 Everyone!!!!!!

  • We've lost our way musically! Priceless stuff.

  • Dang this song brings back so many memories. I don't know if I can take it. Hell of a song

  • Dennis was a blessing as the lead singer of the tempts after David. No one could have sang those Whitfield songs after David but Dennis. Dennis kept the Tempts on top.! Dennis can't be denied his legacy and talent pacing the Tempts. Eddie never lost his place as an original lead singer of the Tempts. Those 3 leads worked magic together.! Paul was in a great category himself.

  • @detroitspinner1 I agree.

  • DAVID RUFFIN WAS GAY!!!

  • IF THATS TRUE THEN WHY DID HE BEG TO GET BACK INTO THE GROUP!!!!!!!!

  • SWAGG!!

  • ♥♥♥

  • He definately one of the sexiest looking nerds lol

  • @BlackDelilahh He's not a nerd, that was swag in the 70's lol...

  • David was the "VOICE" of the Temps. He kills on I Wish it Would Rain!!

  • Freddie "Boom Boom" Washington from Welcome Back Kotter comes to mind! Seriously great song though!!

  • Just a phenomenal track from a soul giant. Love the trademark Ruffin dance move from 'Aint Too Proud To Beg'.

  • I know his family personally he died in the hospital after just coming off tour he had his money and Eddie's and Dennis' money on him. He actually died from heart failure. It wasn't a drug overdose that got him. And many think he was murdered as well. I won't say why though but his death was strange.

  • @dizz84 damn.

  • Nice!!!!

  • This was 1 of the 1st music videos.

  • "there is only one david ruffin, and without him ...the temps ain't nothing but a group in search of a david ruffin, ya'll begging me not to leave you..and i refuse to let u go. yeah..david ruffin and the temptations" lmao!

  • @x3ishere1 Yeap David Ruffin was the Temp. The Temp might as well placed a gun to their head with David. Now with that said, I must said The Temp had no choice but to kick David's butt off the team. He became to arrogant and defiance to carry on as a Team member and Team Player. In the end David lost out. What a pity. This guy me through Vietnam with his style of music.

  • @x3ishere1 I totally agree Brotha.Thats like E.W&F with out Maurice White.Or the 4 Tops With out Levi Stubbs.

  • @x3ishere1 haha im stuck on this movie too! lol

  • why did motown treat him soooo bad after temps. he was surely one of their most talented assets. ive loved david sinse the 70s and can remember dancing round my handbag in the local disco. have loads of his stuff (on vinyl nof course) and still listen to it loads., hes up there sat next to god. ps marc bolan sat at their feet.

  • Imagine what he would be doing today

  • @1forlooker David's voice would be too raspy (Crackling Voice) today with his style. He would do fine singing a song like "I wish it would rain"

  • nothing with out the rest of the temptations

  • @joealanouf WOw! Just wow! WIthout him the Temps were not nearly as good. Dennis Edwards just doesn't cut it. David is the best singer ever!

  • @soulsetsmysoulonfire Oh Wow...you have but to listen to Dennis to know that his voice was in a class of its own. I really don't feel that David could have sang those whitfield tunes as well as Dennis. They each had/have their own style. Dennis can't sing, as well, those songs that David sang lead on with Davids style/conviction. Who could ever do a "My girl" better than David.?..No one..!

  • @soulsetsmysoulonfire ...BUT..the questions are 1. Would we have ever heard of David Ruffin if there were no Temptations? 2. Was HE as good without the Temptations?

I mean no controversy at all. I merely mean to question whether ego is a good thing in a group.

  • @Lennon4life1968 MY THOUGHTS ON THIS ARE, THE TEMPTATIONS DIDN'T MAKE A HIT UNTIL DAVID CAME. WHEN HE WAS EJECTED FROM THE GROUP, HE DID MAKE A FEW HITS. THEY BOTH NEEDED EACH OTHER DESPERATELY. JUST LIKE THEY NEEDED DENNIS EDWARDS WHEN RUFFIN WAS GONE.

  • @soulsetsmysoulonfire no dennis is not david, but dennis aint bad, ironically they teamed up before the end.

  • sliky smooth moves with that classic, soul voice, not affraid to be who he was. R.I.P I LOVE YOU DETROIT. MY HOMETOWN.

  • Sorry Dud, You need to get your act together

  • This is obviously an early-on track for David ... good to see HIM for 'him' and his talent!!!!

  • What a voice! So soulful it's sick!

  • One word, SMOOTH! His singing and Dancing , he had it both!

  • tragic figure.....in the morgue a week before he was identified....heroine...my favorite voice in all of soul. Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks were the lead vocalists, but they should have realized each Temptation contributed to the "sound". boy I miss this band and Ruffin's whiskey vocals

  • @47docrock wasn't it a cocaine overdose he died from?

  • @47docrock WHISKY VOICE IS GOOD DESCRIPTION FOR HIS VOICE........SOULFUL AS WELL......THEY WERE SOME GREAT SINGERS...

  • @47docrock david was not in the morgue a week , do no believe the movie.

  • @magnipotentmartha1 How long was he in the morgue.

  • one of the best voices to have ever come out of Motown
