Anyone who believes this vid needs to take a crash course on boating...

as an owner of 200hp Yamaha 4 stroke, I can absolutely 100% tell you ( not just guess) that i can not pull 90kg skier out the water! i am swapping mine for an evinrude! the Yamaha is extremely reliable and quiet but it lacks power! if a had of bought a 6.5m boat like i wanted, doubt it would get up and plain! My 585 hainshunter takes about 12 to 20 seconds to get up to plain! with all this said this the two engines cannot not compared! 2 stoke has always had more torque!

Man the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke battle never ends. yes this is false advertisement bacause its an etec ad. anyway etec would have won because its a 2 stroke but in a less dramatical way. u cant say that one engine is better than any other. all of them have there pros and cons. but to make it clear 2 stoke has more torque than a 4 stroke. thats just the way it is and works.
By the way the professional and scientific way to do this test is to hitch each boat in turn to a line incorporating a spring balance which is secured to a bollard on shore. That's the proper way to measure pulling power.
E-tecs are nice motors, but if rigging a new boat with a kicker, the smallest Evinrude has is a 15. Not cool to have a brand new boat with different makes of engines.
Thats why I went with Yamaha. Have a Campion 542 with Yamaha 150 and 8. Sweet rig.

This "ad" of sorts, is such bullshit.... We have run both in our charter boat fleet. We made the mistake of buying etec engines. All (5) engines were 225 Etec. We had MASSIVE downtime with injector problems, powerheads, lower units and literally dozens of electrical issues. We ended up selling ALL the etec motors and bought Yamaha engines within a year.
For those who don't know, the Yamaha 150 is only a 4-cylinder engine and a 4-stroke at that.... At least get a V6 Yammy 2-stroke to compare

Yamaha advertises it's four strokes have the same torque as the E-tec. Rediculous. It's not a fake test. A two stroke will ALWAYS have more low end torque than a four stroke. The also run at higher RPM's. It's the same reason you don't see four strokes on chain saws, weed eaters or dirt bikes.

Almost all boat engines are roughly the same in design and performance. It's not like one engine has some super nuclear fusion thermal proton converter... So this engine is designed for torque as a criteria.. yawn.... What to really focus on: LONG TERM LIFE... almost all engines will have roughly the same performance specs... how often does it start? how often does it have to be replaced? What will Salt Water do to the engine. Now that's more important than a GAYASS tug of useless war.
i work on out boards if you want a two stroke the optimax are the best thing out there yamaha makes a great motor in the f150 but the v6 are starting to have corrosion problems in the power heads and mid sections the best four stroke are the suzy's for the price and warranty cant beat them hondas and verados are great if you can afford them but both have had their issues

Iam an omc guy but this video is BS! there is no wake from the yamaha propeller. as far as iam concerned there really isn't a bad outboard out there its all how you maintain your engine yamaha is one of the top engines out there! I would buy any of them accept merc lol just kidding it is my least faviorite though.

This is pretty understandable. 2-strokes are known for more torque (development of more HP at higher loads or acceleration), but is that how people boat? by tug-o-war-ing other boats? There's a reason they chose this test instead of a straight-up race with two like boats. That being said, I thing the E-tecs are nice engines. This test is real, no doubt, but it's pure useless propaganda.

Read "Iron Fist, The Lives of Carl Kiekhaefer" and the author Jeff Rodengen exposes that myth along with a ton of other marine myths of the day. It is a good read. Waterman developed the first workable outboard 5 years before Evinrude got into the game.

There is no way you should be comparing the torque of a 2-stroke motor against that of the Yamaha's 4-stroke motor - it isn't even a meaningful test for everyone know you don't buy a 4-stroke for it's torque. This test seems biased. Note how the Yamaha engine is not creating water turbulence on commencing of test. Perhaps no or not full throttle? Very very unconvincing.
My 10 yr old 150hp Jonson went dead 5 years ago. Cranckshaft broke. I had a choice. Fix it for $3000 or get E-tec for $11000. I opted for E-tec. Never had any problems after that. I put about 100 hours a year. Even after 6 months of witer storage it starts on the first spin.
Useless to compare 2 strokes engine with a 4: With same size, a 2 stroke is more powerful than a 4... but consumes more fuel and pollutes more (oil burned) - That means: better for occasional use (sport, entertainment, etc.), worse for all-days use. So this "test" does NOT mean that Evinrude is better of Yamaha (may be, but not by this test)...
@BradipoNinja E-tec is not quite the same as other 2 strokes because of its fuel injection system. Polution satisfies all the requierments in US. As a long term use, I can tell you that all small Police and Coast Guard boats are using E-Tecs. At least in NYC bay areas.

Yeah the e tec may pull it but good luck breaking the yamaha because you never will. my uncle baught a ranger with a 150 etec and he has already had problems with it in less then a year. a fuel injector alreday went out and will just shut off when in idle
Well my four stroke Yamaha 115 gets me there and uses less gas, more reliable, fast starting every time, but the only down side is it doesn't kill the bugs.

Iam an omc guy but this video is BS! there is no wake from the yamaha propeller. as far as iam concerned there really isn't a bad outboard out there its all how you maintain your engine yamaha is one of the top engines out there! Interesting thing is you see no thrust at all from the yahama only for a brief moment. Oh it is a e-tec commercial LMAO. Funny thing is I was a die hard OMC owners till they started making crap, blown heads, failed gear boxes. Since I have had Suzuki which was flawless, Yamaha Flawless and Mercury Flawless. OMC has to do something in there deperate attempt to regain marketshare.

This is pretty understandable. 2-strokes are known for more torque (development of more HP at higher loads or acceleration), but is that how people boat? by tug-o-war-ing other boats? There's a reason they chose this test instead of a straight-up race with two like boats. That being said, I thing the E-tecs are nice engines. This test is real, no doubt, but it's pure useless propaganda.

Read "Iron Fist, The Lives of Carl Kiekhaefer" and the author Jeff Rodengen exposes that myth along with a ton of other marine myths of the day. It is a good read. Waterman developed the first workable outboard 5 years before Evinrude got into the game.

There is no way you should be comparing the torque of a 2-stroke motor against that of the Yamaha's 4-stroke motor - it isn't even a meaningful test for everyone know you don't buy a 4-stroke for it's torque. You buy a 4 stoke because it's quiet and helps you enjoy boating more - or sneak up on fish.

My 10 yr old 150hp Jonson went dead 5 years ago. Cranckshaft broke. I had a choice. Fix it for $3000 or get E-tec for $11000. I opted for E-tec. Never had any problems after that. I put about 100 hours a year. Even after 6 months of witer storage it starts on the first spin.

Useless to compare 2 strokes engine with a 4: With same size, a 2 stroke is more powerful than a 4... but consumes more fuel and pollutes more (oil burned) - That means: better for occasional use (sport, entertainment, etc.), worse for all-days use. So this "test" does NOT mean that Evinrude is better of Yamaha (may be, but not by this test)...

@BradipoNinja E-tec is not quite the same as other 2 strokes because of its fuel injection system. Polution satisfies all the requierments in US. As a long term use, I can tell you that all small Police and Coast Guard boats are using E-Tecs. At least in NYC bay areas.
