youve just got to say, i love what im doing, and so do some other people. its my life after all, not yours. you still have your friends and family, and you know theyre going to support you know matter what so screw the haters, am i right?
I don't think people really know about my videos, seeing as how i've only been doing this regularly for about 6 months. But it does sort of make me uncomfortable when my friends will bring it up in class or ask me "hey did you make your video" and someone steps in like "oh you make videos on youtube" and then they just ramble on about all the recent ones i've done without me getting to tell them myself, i dunno i never really thought about other kids from my school seeing my videos really
I know exactly how you feel. When my friends or family see my Instragram pictures, I get the most uncomfortable feeling ever & I just want to rip their phone's out of their hands. But then when random people follow me on my Instagram, it's like 'omg yay!' It's complicated...
I feel like if my videos were as good as yours, I wouldn't mind that school people were watching them. But since they suck, it would be almost too awkward to handle. I really get what you mean, and people can be so insensitive sometimes! I just hope you don't remove your videos. That would suck for all your subscribers that you don't know. Side note; did you ever make a makeup channel? I would subscribe!
i feel the same way ! my friend's watch my videos and they'll play them like in front of other people and it makes me so embarrassed and awkward and uncomfortable ! i also hate when my friends or people from my school follow me on tumblr ! i hate them being able to see what i post and what goes on in my life . i only follow like one of my best friends on tumblr , the rest of the people i blocked .
i get what you mean i used to have this youtube channel i posted singing vids and like half of my year found out i had a youtube and everyone started to talk about it and come up to me and be like hey i watched your vid and laugh and it wasn't nice and i'd be like i don't want you to watch my vids and they be like why do you post vids but it's different cos i don't mind my friends and stuff watching them
i havent made videos in a long time (for no particular reason though) and not a lot of people watch my videos, and the people who at my school who watch my videos i am mostly comfortable with but yes there are some i feel like are making fun of me. but i always imagine if like i became 'famous' on youtube if everyone watched my videos? im not going through what you are, but i completely understand.
I then told my careers teacher about youtube, asking a questions about my resume. and she didn't understand why i wasn't handing out buisness cards or putting up videos on the morning announcements. she didn't understand that high school kids are immature and cruel. she then opened up my youtube and showed the whole class my videos. it just feels like an invasion of privacy. i understand where you are coming from completely.
i don't mind when people tell me they watch them, it's kinda awkward. but i'm not like, please don't. but i know for a fact kids have gone on to youtube in school and watched my videos and made fun of it. even more outragous, the teacher saw/heard and didn't do anything about it. a few years ago, i made a music video, and kids walked around the hallways singing disturbia, clutching their head. they don't understand, like this is what i love to do.
nahh,i get what your trying to explain. Its like, solely based on the fact that you know them in real life. Because you see them everyday, and they could judge/make fun of/stalk your youtube channel. Thats the resoning behind why why people at your school make you feel like that, and not absolute strangers. Its just a fear of judgement, which is okay! i think most people would at least understand (let alone if they've accually felt it) if they got an explanation <33
I agree completely. I ended up removing a bunch (100 +) videos from my old channel because people I knew were making fun of my videos/username and I made this one afterwards...but it is THE most awkward thing ever when you're at your best friend's house and she just found out about your videos and her, her family, and your other friends are all watching them on her big screen...like it is hard to describe, but you're not crazy I promise!
Aidan, I can't even really put into words how much I agree with what you say in this video and you're not the only one who thinks like this on youtube. when I first started making videos on youtube everyone in my grade made fun of me because tbh they sucked sooo bad. I switched schools and now people in my school ADMIRE my videos... for the most part. Some of my friends make fun of what I say which is my biggest insecurity but I just remember that they don't have the guts to make videos like Ido
Aww Aidan. I'm sorry that people are being so inconsiderate. I mean, seriously? They should have at least SOME kind of sensor to what's nice and mean. -.-
I find it awkward when my friends suggest to watching my videos while I'm with them. It's like..."WHY? I made that video, I don't want to watch it with you"
It's funny, cuz just today a family member asked me why I'm "secretive" about my blog to them? They asked what was the point of having a blog if they can't even see it? That there is no point of being secretive because strangers see it. But that's the thing, I'm more comfortable with strangers seeing it because if they are rude, I don't know them so I won't care - plus, I won't have to deal with them face-to-face. I can just ignore them. & if they are nice, it'll just be encouraging and sweet.
I completely get where you are coming from! I don't do youtube videos, but I do have a blog where photos of myself go up and I keep it to myself - especially since my family members were one of the first people to know about it and they were just stupid about it - teasing me about taking pictures of certain things to post, etc. & then they wonder why I don't give them the link for them to browse? ha!
I think if someone you know in real life compliments you, you should tke it as one unless they say it condescendingly or rudely. What the guy did in class is kind of lame, if he said it that way, but appreciate what you've got. (:
I totally get that, i don't make that many videos, but when i do its just to say my feelings or be have fun in them. I would get uncomfortable if someone i knew watched my videos... it would sorta make me feel awkward, but also i don't want them to make fun of me. But I'm getting used to it.
I can understand what you mean. I don't make videos, mainly because my camera is absolute shit, but also because I'm afraid to, or like embarassed. I think it's really rude that kids would make fun of you. You have a lot of followers for a reason, you're relly awesome!
I get what you're saying... it's like we're trying to get away from all the people we know in real life and then once they start invading that it's like you have nothing... I feel the same way with tumblr and twitter. I know it's not the same thing as youtube videos but I can relate.
Nah, you don't sound like a paranoid freak, Youtube is a way to express yourself and branch out away from people you see everyday in real life. So then when people from real life invade, it feels weird because part of the reason of branching out was to do something on your own away from them. I hope that makes sense, but I get what you mean.
i completely get what you're saying, but it's definitely something that's in your head. if someone seems like they're making fun of you, it's out of jealousy. straight up jealousy. but if someone seems like they're being genuine that's because they probably are.
I know how you feel!!! One time i was in school and like 4 people were watching my video in our free time during class on the computer... I felt like leaving class and it just felt like everyone was making fun of my i after deleted my channel videos because real life people that i know were watching them and i felt like everyone was just kinda like laughing about me behind my back!
Ahh Aidan we should skype. I completely 100% know what you're saying and I feel the exact same way. I never really knew how to describe to people how I get offended when they mention/play my videos in front of me.And they don't stop when it's clear I'm getting upset and frustrated. They make it worse by making a joke out of it, thinking it's making it better. I'm so sorry this is happening to you too. It's tough to explain how you want something so public to be semi-private. But it's different.
I know what you mean.. It's people like that in my school that prevent me from making vlogmas on YT like showing my face cause I'm afraid people will make fun of me and whatever.. Maybe when I leave school and go to college I'll start :)
I know exactly what you mean! I just started posting and I get weirded out when people I know are like "Hey, I saw yout video!". I feel uncomfortable. I have no clue why!
I can relate! I was at my aunts house and my dad was like "Look up urmysplashofcolor!" AND I FREAKED. I felt so embarrassed and they hadn't even just watched it. and I was like "PLEASE dont'" and he said if i put them on the internet he had the right to watch them. and whatever, he can. but not in front of all my cousins and everything. I just wanted to dieee. so, I get what you mean. but please don't ever stop making videos. I love them too much ^_^
im not really a youtuber but, i know what you mean. there is something comfortable about exposing yourself to strangers that you will never have meet and yet something uncomfortable exposing yourself to people you have to see everyday.
i agree with you, Aiden. i feel like youtube vloggers show a real side to themselves. Since youre taliking to a camera people can act how they want unlike how they might in front of a classmate. So its def uncomfortable. Just tell them youre uncomfortable and theyre staring into your soul.
I know exactly what you mean. There being possibility that people from my school could find my channle is what has prevented me from making videos. People can be very judgemental a lot of times.
Two years ago i tried making videos on youtube, and people at our school found out and i quit. I deleted all my videos and the channel and i quit because i felt judged and gossiped about. and haters are going to hate and spread that hate, but as long as there is one person that laughs, its totally worth it to me.
Oh wow, I couldn't agree more with EVERYTHING you said in this video. I can relate 150%. A friend of mine likes to tell everyone about my youtube videos.. and people quote things I say in my videos, which comes off as making fun of me. It makes me feel so painfully uncomfortable, and I also thought I was the only one who felt that way. THANK YOU SO MUCH for talking about this.
i have a small video diary on my phone of my rants about others and just me blowing steam and i wouldnt dare post them on youtube because if any one from school found them i would be mortified and i don't let my friends touch my phone
I have the same exact problem. Between my family and people in high school making fun of me, it was miserable. But luckily now that I'm in college, people are a lot more grown up about it and don't judge me for making videos and such. It gets me down sometimes but I learn to ignore it.
I think it's just that YouTube is the one form of yourself is truly... Yourself. You can't change your personality at all for each person (don't deny it -- everyone does it). I just say "Fuck yes I'm famous."
THIS. i definitely agree. with every point you mentioned. i try my hardest to keep people in real life away from my youtube, tumblr, formspring etc..it doesnt always work though..and i get so self conscious and awkward when they talk about it. i feel like we can all express our true self online so when people in real life invade into it, we freak out. whereas if someone came up to me that i didnt know..it would completely make my day.
That's a HUGE reason I'm scared to start making YouTube videos, people are ganna be jerks. They obviously have nothing better to do than look up your videos and make fun of them.
I completely understand and relate. I hate when people I actually know watch me, because they judge me for it. They make fun of me for it. But I mean it's "my thing". They play music, or write, or do sports and that's their. I understand what you're saying completely.
if i knew you, and i told you i watched your videos i think i would be saying it like it's really cool, and i'm jealous because i am not even comfortable enough to post anything on youtube, so it shows that you have confidence!
P.S. You shouldn't feel too upset about your video. You were conveying what you felt about something that bothered you; something that a LOT of people can relate to, even me, even though I spend most of my time writing stories. It's kind of like people are critiquing you on how to be yourself. They poke fun at your mistakes or do some other ridiculous stuff to put you down, but you have to understand that a lot of people are stupid and just don't understand your point of view.
I definitely get where you're coming from..."understand" is a stronger adjective that I don't like to use, but yeah. I definitely get it. If people watch your videos and tell you about something that you like to do and tell you their opinions about you, you tend to become paranoid and self-concious. It's definitely a very unnerving experience, you know? I kind of want to post a video response so that you can really have a more in-depth...thing...about what I have to say.
i definitely understand that. i used to make video's and then i deleted my channel because it just got so weird for me. i'm gonna try it again but yeah. it's so weird when other people that you actually know have seen them and talk about them.
I agree with this so much. I don't make videos but this is how I feel about my tumblr and other sites. Like I want it to be something separate from my real life and I don't want to feel judged for it... And what you said toward to end about when someone is visibly upset, stop it, I agree a hundred percent. That's really just flat out bullying and I hate how that feels
i was thinking about putting up videos on youtube but then i thought of what if someone from school finds this? its gunna be awkward so then i decided not to.
I saw a situation just like this happening today. There was a girl in my class that makes makeup videos and a bunch of guys pulled them up and watched them with her in the room. I told them to stop, but they were like "we're not being mean, we're just watching".....but they just don't get it! Doing that right in front of someone is just rude no matter what your intention is.
I completely understand! It's pretty much the same reason for tumblr so you can talk about things and act however you want to strangers rather than the people you see everyday :)
yeahh I know what you mean c: I used to post a lot of videos on my old channel, but people started quoting them at school. Haha so i just deleted my channel, but don't you dare!
I agree. It's like, when you make a video, it's something personal. In high school, even if I posted a video of a friend and I, it would be weird if people we knew watched it. The videos are like a little peek into your life, and for strangers it's not that weird. But for people who think they know you, and only see the "school" side of you, it's very awkward.
I can relate Don't quit you're so beautiful & talented you are one of the youtubbers who inspired me to make videos. I get picked on at school regardless if I make videos or not & when they see me cry they do it more I feel like no one understands me but YouTube allows me to express myself. People found out & they laugh & make me feel stupid. I work hard on my videos & if they can't appreciate my effort it's their loss You are amazing just the way you are :) <3
You're friggan awesome, aha Its funny if any of your friends or kids at your school bring it up. Maybe think of all the positive comments they read, "you're so pretty","you're one of my favourite youtubers,"hope things get better". They probably see all the comments and probably get jealous with all the attention you get and try to bring you down a bit, just re-read some of the comments like that and make yourself feel better. <3 most loovee
One time someone I know told me him and his friend watched a lot of my videos. It was one of the worst feelings ever because I imagined them sitting there watching and making fun of me. Even if it's not personal videos, I feel like the videos I make are close to me because I am proud of them and they show exactly who I really am.
im pretty sure i live in ur town i live in minnesota and is your team tigers? please respond because i think that it would be one of the coolest things if so.

It get what you mean. Alot of people are just insensitive to how uncomfortable they are making someone feel. (AKA all my friends...)

i was thinking about putting up videos on youtube but then i thought of what if someone from school finds this? its gunna be awkward so then i decided not to.
