No effects, direct from the bass to the amp. I'm not sure if it was the 30W Randall, or the 305W Hartke... Anyway, the bass sound isn't altered.

For that range of prices i'd rather recommend you a Squier. I'm very happy with my 5 string Squier, and squier guitars are also very good and affordable instruments.

I've never played with a Cort or Ibanez, i can't help you with that, sorry.
