I bought this album (yes, ALBUM) when it came out. I just started getting back into Gary Numan and forgot all about this song. Easily one of the true gems on this album. Just a brilliant song.
how fucking cool is it that you can play all the videos in a row non stop = TOTALLY FUCKING COOL, that's how mother fucking cool it is. FUCK YEA...........
One of the best songs of all time, there is not a band/artist in the history of music who have made a sound like this.........truly unique and pure genius.
Conversation is a long track, but there's not a dull moment. I consider it the highlight of the album. It's a song that I would think evoke envy and applause from Kraftwerk. Though Kraftwerk created interesting coloring books, Gary Numan created interesting crayons to go with it.
instantly takes me back to 79 when me and my two mates used to listen to this every fri /sat night .great memories wish i could bring those days back .
I used to sit and listen to this over and over, just staring at those scribbled white lyrics on that blue cardboard inner-liner. My dad got this because of "Cars", but I liked it all. Never really was a GN fan, just loved this album.....great childhood memories.
this song is a dark rocker...very very cool!!!!...it is even a bit funky.....!!!!!!this gentleman..was...years and years ahead of his...time..!!!!!!!and still puts out incredible music....check...out his songs.,..."haunted"...and "jagged"....just deadly/cool/./......Gary Numan..produces...rock and roll...for...secret agents and assassins....everywhere,....!!!!
What really pisses me off is that Gary Numan is only remembered for two songs...Cars and AFE but he's made literally hundreds of gems...But I guess its better to be remembered for two absolute classics than nothing !!!!
Another thing that pisses me off is why so many people like the Pet Shop Boys, They are SO fucking bland.....These people should try Numan, But I guess it might be too much excitement for them to handle !!!
struggled for ages to get that minimoog sound, till i was told it was mic'd up through a roland jazz chorus guitar amp, this whole album is a treasure chest of good memories for me thanks for posting
@vermillionsnake Hey bud, when you were 13 I was 7... and I remember listening to this with my father in the Los Angeles suburbs... I haven't heard it since then!
Saw him in the Telekon tour at the QE Theater in Vancouver in 1980. This was easily the most memorable concert I attended from the period. This song was played and well... you have never experienced anything so cosmic. The whole concert was certainly not a slapped together whisk tour thing. It was a carefully crafted series of visual candy that made me think the Pink Floyd concert that I saw after seem like a stale cake which we were presupposed to give unreserved accolade.
you mean the same synth sound? same note would be if both songs just went eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the same note all the way through
Did you even listen to both of them? He's right. They have the same build up keys in the main riffs of the song, along with Observer.
Listen to the main riffs of Metal, Conversation, and Observer. It has some of the same notes. That's why they are so easy to play on a keyboard. It's basics.
all the songs aside from complex sound similar really, just compared to say, the similarity between observer and cars, this sounds hardly anything like metal. i was pointing out annoyingly that the same 'note' doesn't really mean anything
Actually it does mean something if you play an instrument. if you played keyboards, you'd see that the same notes in diffrent patterns makes the songs easier to play by ear. Just like with playing guitar, the same chords such as the E and D are used in a majority of punk rock songs. Don't know if you play guitar or keyboards or not, but that's what I mean.
He has kind of Bing Bang Theory look to him heh? I used to have this ALBUM though, Life was so simple then.

This whole album was created way ahead of it's time I wish Gary got the credit he deserved instead of becoming some pilot engineer.

When parts take over
My conversation
Is nothing more than lies
You're just the viewer
So cold and distant
I've no intentions
Of saying "I love you"
