My dad bought my son a revelation (savage made for montgomery ward) .222 a few years ago. He told him to go shoot a deer for him. He shot his first deer that week. A 10pt whiletail. Hes harvested a handfull of doe and so have i with it. One shot one kill every time. Neck shots only. The only time i lost a deer was was a vitals shot with a 30-30 so i dont take those anymore. Neck shot and they fall where they stand.
i dont like having my guns in camo because i left mine against a tree and went to take a piss and came back and i lost it found it the next day from my barrel shining from the reflection of the sun
@jake14th It's not all that loud. If you plan on shooting it repeatedly at a range or something, then you should wear ear protection. If you go hunting with it, you're only going to need (hopefully) one shot anyway.
Find .222 ammunition slightly more expensive than .223 however they seem to be far more consistent across brands. Using my sako .222 I can group a good 1 1/2" tighter at 200 yards than using my friends steyr .223. Only a small difference in muzzle energy but provided you place the round in the right place you'll always drop small to medium sized vermin/game.
a good caliber to start hunting pigs would be anything from A 223. to a 30-06 the one i use the most is my gramas Winchester pre 64 243 featherweight. shoots good
hell ya my remington 222 is my deer murderin machine, im from the queen charlotte islands in canada and the yearly limit on blacktaill (bucks only) is 15, 5 per month and my .222 has maxed my quota fast every year. it`ll make a deer drop like a bag of shit at about 200-250 yrd no problem, but i go for clean kills head shots only. has only let me down once but was my fault for havin it bounce around in the back of the truck on loggin roads all day, put the scope about 1 1/2' high but was fixable
ya it will penetrate the skull at any point on the deers head? but you wouldent recomend body shots tho due to the lack in the size of the bullet? and what do you zero at 2 inch high at 100 yards?
im new to this caliber and dont know whats goes and what doesnt...thanks
3140 fps with 1094 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy is more then enough to penetrate a deers skull at any range i would say. but i like to stay under 300 yrd because then you start to factor for windage and that kinda bullshit, plus 300 yrd into the loggin slash mean another 300 yrds draggin his ass out. i dont dont do body shots it wrecks the meat and makes for a hasle when dressing, my rem 222 is about 2 inches high at 50 yrds so at 150-200 yrds its right on the money. all ammo is different though.
okay ya thats what iv heard from some other people is to sight in about 2 inches high at 100 and it will be right on at 200. however it sounds like it should be good for deer if you do head shots then but do you thik it would kill in one shot fairly quickly if you had to go for the body and...do you hand load for your .222?
i assume it would kill with a body shot its pretty small bullet, but has quite a bit of punch. and no i use remington store-bought 50gr. ammo. and i think you can get 65gr. .222 ammo aswell for more oomph.
@holyluke I use a .222 T3 lite, lovely gun, shot a fox tonight and last night here in wicklow ,Ireland on 3rd and 4th of may 2010 whilst using a lamp on a sheep farm, great calibre and very fast round, enjoyed the video, happy shooting.

Not recommended fro deer. You would want a .243 up for whitetail.

jake14th 7 months ago
@jake14th they are a bit louder they make your ears ring for ages when you shoot them under a roof but when you shoot in the open its not that louder

tippman98c1 1 year ago
@tippman98c1 .257 roberts is a good high powered low recoil but .270, 30-06 are definatly enough gun to kill either in fact .223 would kill both too
chevygearhead454 1 year ago
@tippman98c1 i use a 22-250 they are acurate and have a good range of power thats all i use for pigs and roos
