Don't take it personally, I work around live music too and I'm a classical trained musician and multi instrumentalist, just where I am I see a lot of people using Autotune live. I've personally no experience with Melodyne; I thought it was an honest question or statement and you were a n00b. Obviously you're not :) Sorry bud.

Anyway, off topic - I read somewhere this song was a rip-off of some popular song made before this one, I *think* it was a Swedish pop song.

@amostsoulfulcolour I've been a working musician my entire life. The company is called Antares and they would have used Melodyne not Autotune if anything, and they haven't. It's clean. You can hear flat slides if you listen carefully. No offense but I hate people throwing around this ignorant crap about autotune

@TheStrangerSpeaks :) totally agree about the kids but I'm 36 :) re the song - you're saying the swedish song i was referring to is by a band called ednaswap? i'll look into it. there's a legal definition of plaigurism, something like exact same melody and phrasing over X amount of bars, i dont know. non issue to me as i write my own stuff and it's not the baroque or classical period anymore - ie it used to be an honour to borrow a melody from a composer but yeah... not for me

@stuart77182 She also kind of represents the end of an era. Just a few months later, Britney Spears and similar pop acts would introduce a style of studio-enhanced, autotuned, electronic pop that still hasn't gone away to this day (e.g, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, Jonas Brothers).

@MVillani1985 you're absolutely right, but lets not forget that the three artists you mentioned are actually great singers acoustically too. Studio enhanced sounds are here the same way they were in the 80's. It will be gone soon enough

@ZidaneSteiner I think the difference is that in the 80s it was kind of a joke (like in "Electric Avenue" and the "Electric Slide") while today it's all oversaturated electropop sounds. I did notice a backlash against overdone studio effects, though, with a lot of YouTube singers becoming popular stars overnight. Some studio enhanced sound works, though, like Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" in the American Graffiti era. But now the effects seem to change the sound from music to noise IMO.
