Interesting...maybe Bane broke Commissioner Gordon's back which could explain why Gordon is in the hospital laying the way he is.

Apparently TDKR takes place eight years after The Dark Knight. Nolan is probably playing off Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns in which Bruce Wayne gives up his alter-ego but is forced to come out of retirement when a new threat, in which case is Bane, threatens Gotham. So I'm guessing we'll see a much older Bruce and beaten physically and mentally. Can't wait.

@shawnjacob32 This dialogue between Gordon and Bruce might very well be the turning point in which Bruce decides that he must come back as Batman. My guess is the police progressively gain control of Gotham over the years while Batman's role becomes less and less. Until Bane comes along and is just too much for them at which point Batman has to come back

That very well makes sense. It's going to be interesting to see what forces Batman into retirement. It's also intriguing to see if Gordon truly knows if Bruce is Batman. Hopefully we can expect more detective work from Batman, Marion Cotillard as Talia Al Ghul, explanation of the Batcave construction, some reference to the Joker, Bane slamming Batman over his knee (for iconic comic book reasons), & Batman's redemption.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bruce Wayne is making it seem that Gordon is talking to Batman with the "voice." I wouldn't be surprised if Nolan decided that because Gordon isn't wearing his glasses and because of Gordon's poor vision that Bruce comes in and begins to talk to Gordon with the "Batman voice" and that Gordon accepts the conversation and that he doesn't need to actually see the face of Batman but know that Batman still exists.

@Sean9609 Warner Brothers said they would continue or reboot the franchise. some of the cast, i think the actor who plays Alfred is one example, wanted to return if the franchise continued without Nolan and Bale. But who knows what Warner Bros wanted a fresh slate or continues. But Nolan and Goyers wrote this movie in mind to close off the story completely...so who knows

2. Gordon says,"We were in this together ..." Clearly by we he means Batman

3. Bruce is speaking with his regular voice not with his throat-cancer Batman voice.

4. Bruce also says,"What if he doesn't exist anymore." Which he was obviously referring to Batman.

I am first VERY sorry if this has been discussed to death, I don't have the time to go through all the comments.

I suddenly realized watching this for the fourth or fifth time that Gordon (it's him, right?) knows Wayne is Batman. He is not in desguise, he's in a suit and speaking "normally". That's gotta be a major part of the plot.

@JimmyFraska I think you are missing the point, this is a TEASER TRAILER, Christopher has always been f**king with his audiences. The primary motive of this trailer is keep people guessing, but using the evidence that junior185 has outlined, it is incredibly easy to deduce that this is Bruce Wayne talking to Commissioner Gordon as Bruce Wayne, and not as his alter ego. Christopher Nolan nor Warner Bros. would have made the effort to alter the recorded film. It would be pointless.

@JimmyFraska Actually, around 0:40 you can clearly see that the man sitting in the chair is wearing a suit (a shot of his hand shows that it's grayish). So Gordon is talking to Bruce. Unless they are actually two different conversations and in one Gordon is talking to Bruce and on the second he is talking to someone about Batman... He totally knows (I suspect the "two conversations" explanation might pan out).

The picture of batman fighting Bane is probably when Bane kicks Batman's butt!! Breaking his back, etc. Batman seems to be tired and Bane full of energy. There's also, a guy in the background holding a gun... probably a bad guy working for Bane. This movie will be great!!

Possibly. That shot with Bruce doing push ups looks like it could be at the same place they're about to fight, or have already fought in. Suppose Bane does not break Batman in the literal sense but breaks the Batman-alter-ego of Bruce and thus his will to fight crime? That would make the dialogue with Gordon make sense "what if he doesn't exist anymore?" cuz bane purged Batman from Bruce. Then we'd see the Batman "rise" in Bruce again.

... Basically, Gordon is in the hospital because he got hurt from Bane and his men.... Gordan tells Bruce Wayne (Batman) that the Batman needs to come back. I believe Bane will Break Batman's back.... Batman/Bruce will be out of the lime light for a huge part of the movie. In the hospital Batman/Bruce will question Gordan on if the Batman will ever come back... The other question is, how does Catwoman fit into the movie? Also, will we see any other surprise villains???

I just ended up reading like a brief summary of the entire film on a youtube comment but theres no fucking way anyone can know what happens if the script hasnt been leaked. However what I read doesn't seem to be in the description i found.

But thats how the dark knight got spoilt for me, some asshat blurted out every crucial moment in the film (that i assumed was bs but then came to be true). But that was closer to the release.
