i have watched and supported johnny since his ASA days. Very classy racer and incredibly nice guy. it sucks that his truck team shut down. hope that didn't have anything to do with why he was racing that race. hope he gets better. tough economy when the champion has to fold shop. I was there and saw the same thing. I was shocked and thought right back to Dale Earnhardt and his accident and thought OMG this is almost the same kinda thing. I thought he was really hurt and said, there is a lot of Safety people there and that car looked like there was a lot of safety put into it. I got to look at it up close before the race and still can't believe that this happened right in front of my eyes. He is doing good now and can't wait to see him race again.

I remember seeing Johnny Benson run at the Milwaukee Mile in ASA and I thought the only reason he was winning was that Trickle, Kulwicki, and Rusty Wallace had moved on. I was WRONG! JB is a smooth driver and smooth equals fast. Get well soon Johnny!

He originally was in serious condition at Spectrum Hospital, but as of 4:30 p.m. Sunday, he is in fair condition. There is no word on when he will be released.

Raceway representatives said they expect Benson to be back on the track before the end of the year.

Although he suffered some minor burns after his car caught fire, the majority of Benson's injuries resulted from breathing in the chemicals used to extinguish the blaze.
