I was really taken aback by Shawn's anger here. Is Millet that bad? What if the scenario was Greg Johnson talking a Mormon investigator out of joining the LDS? We'd applaud that. Millet is only defending what he believes is correct. I thought Shawn supported Standing Together? (I saw Greg Johnson on the show awhile back and it was very chummy.) Millet's book A DIFFERENT JESUS? acknowledges conflicting doctrines between LDS and Christians. He's not trying to deceive us that he's on our side.

I was born and raised a Mormon in the state of Utah. I know tons about the Mormon church, probably more than most active church-attending Mormons know.

I didn't get my knowledge from the church, however. I had to go to other sources to get unbiased information about the church history and it's former "prophets."

The LDS Church lies constantly. They might not be boldly stating lies, but they lie by omission. They don't give the complete story.

For instance, I was taught that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon from golden plates. When I looked at unbiased information, I found out that Joseph Smith put a rock in a hat and claimed that words and letters appeared.

We all know why they don't want members (and potential members) of the church to know ALL the facts. Because it sounds stupid and completely unbelievable.

The LDS Church didn't allow blacks to hold the priesthood until they were pressured to do so. Colleges were boycotting against playing BYU due to their racist policies.

How much time, effort and money did the LDS Church offer during the Prop H8 mess in Cali?

And, while I am on the subject, I would like to point out that women are far from equals in the LDS Church. Women can't hold positions of authority over men because they can't have the priesthood. Only men are given that "honor."

So, looking at their track record, most intelligent people would demand answers for the things the church does (it's policies).

As a believer, I knew it was not a good idea to ask many questions because you could be seen as a trouble maker. Mormons believe everything that comes out of their "prophets" mouth without question. They fear that if they question this authority figure God will be displeased with them.

It's a classic cult-type action. Keep the people quiet and sanitize their info.
