Well I'm a baby at 60! My father used toamke crystal sets he was born about the same time as Carter. Innovation and curiosity, interest in new things - "new connections between things" - incredible.
Many thanks for posting that lovely interview with Mr. Carter. I find it fascinating that he remains an exponent of NEW music, not feeling it necessary to deal with all the old traditions. This is very inspiring to all of us interested in creative work (in any artistic medium).
What an inspiration Elliot Carter is. He comment that he wants be people to experience "happiness" pleasure is perfect. Why else would you experience a work of art if not to get "your imagining working in new ways, to make new connections, and surprises." Carter is definitely the youngest musican of our time.
great to see mr. carter still so sharp and witty - - - excellent choice of music with the cello concerto at the end (have never heard this piece before but want to now)
Hi there, long time no see! Yeah, sorry about the long absence of the videos.. I got one of them reported for some kind of copyright so I decided to remove them all and lay low for a bit.
Look at the slowind.org site for the biggest festival of music by Elliot Carter!

This video is from 2008? It looks like its from the late 80's with that presenter and the bad quality sound.

Such a wonderful and heartwarming interview!
I don't know of any other major composer who has continued to be actively composing into his (or her) second century of life.
May the musical world continue to be blessed with his physical presence for many more years to come!

It boggles my mind that anyone could be this old. It's funny to think think that Shostakovich was only two years older than him.
