  • Since politicians r responsible for passing this into law is anyone looking to see if they're buying stock in the companies that will manufacture the ABS units?

All ABS equates to is something doing the work for you since you're too lazy & can't be bothered with learning.

Now following the curve, how long till our cars drive themselves? You can already work from home so why don't you ppl that can't be bothered by learning to drive/ride just stay home & leave the road to us that know how?

  • All you ABS haters. if you drive a car and it has ABS your just contradicting yourself about it does more harm and you need to learn how to brake your car , so do yourself a favor take ABS off your car and learn how to break your car right!

  • They should just make dumbasses ride with those training wheels on...

  • When all bikes have ABS and there isn't a 37% reduction in fatals, the insurance industry is going to have egg on it's face and all our wallets will be lighter. 37% of all fatal crashes don't involve a braking error resulting in a capsize, so how the hell will ABS deliver a 37% reduction? The cited study has a serious confound that is not properly accounted for - conservative riders take up the ABS option and guess what? Conservative riders crash less.

  • @robsalvv Well said! A few years ago, Cycle World did a comparison between the 600RR and 600RR with ABS and the only real difference was when only the rear brake was applied. Weather is not a factor in most motorcycle accidents, so all these videos of non-ABS bikes sliding on wet pavement make no sense. "The failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominating cause of motorcycle accidents"-NHTSA website.

  • this is stupid if you can't lock up ur brakes u don't have full control

  • I'm torn with this, because it'll save inexperienced rider's skin time and time again, but there will be situations when a rider needs to lay the bike down and slide, to save crashing straight into an object, and in that situation I think ABS would do more harm than good.

  • If by riding a bike one is 37 times more likely to die in an accident, and by having ABS installed on the bike one is 37% safer, that means that one would be 23.3 times(as opposed to 37 times) more likely to die in an accident which is a reduction of 13.7 times...not bad really!!

I'm all for ABS and Traction Control, both in cars and motorbikes. It doesn't make it any less fun to ride(or drive)! That's a misconception.

Be safe out there and enjoy the technology that is looking after oneself.

  • that slide thing looks so fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sof1map

That is the most ridiculous statement I have every heard. Guys who buy ABS are more safety conscious than other riders. That statement borders on stupidity.

  • They seem to make it sound as if anti-lock brakes make you as safe on a bike as in a car. First they say that you're 37 times more likely to die on a bike than in a car. Then, they say that you're 37% safer with anti-lock brakes than without them. These are very different references, but they're designed to make you think that ABS will bring you back to car safety stats when riding. Nothing like spinning the truth!

  • @ScottsUtubeWorld They are not saying that ABS makes bike comparable to a car - the difference in fatalities is huge, no matter what bike technology you are using, ABS gives you an edge, but I don't think they are implying they make motorcycles just as safe.

  • @ScottsUtubeWorld Maybe thats what you thought this videos was saying. Thats not what I thought.

  • One problem with the statistic cited by the Institute: Since ABS is almost always an option chosen by the bike purchaser, some of the claimed 37% reduction in fatalities may be due to the fact that the guy who buys an ABS-equipted bike is more safety-conscious than other riders. The ABS consumer probably rides safer than other riders: For example, he/she is more likely to refrain from drinking, drugs, and when riding he/she practices defensive riding, wears a helmet: i.e, a good moral risk.

  • @edzaslow Yep, you hit the nail on the head there.

  • @edzaslow This is absolutely correct. The study that's being cited has a very significant confound that is not properly accounted for. If MAIDS and HURT can't be re-interpreted to give a clear positive benefit to ABS, then a confounded study should be viewed with a high degree of scepticism.

ABS does what it's designed to do, stop the wheel from locking - this is a far call from saying there'll be a massive reduction in fatals as a result.

  • @edzaslow

I just totaled a bike(No abs) last weekend due to a brake lock up on a down hill right hander. 3 Dogs ran across the street, and I panic braked, resulting in the rear locking up. Now on a straight stretch of road, thats fine, but my problem was I was headed right for the apex when I stood the bike up to brake. I went right off the road, front tire dug into the loose dirt and high sided me sending me rolling and the bike flipping end over end several times.

    Im getting ABS next time

  • how can i add abs and how much it costs?

  • They fail to mention that ABS increases stopping distance on dry pavement. They won't let you lift the rear wheel, and when you are stopping at maximum effort, the rear tire is bobbling in the air.

  • How in hell does ABS reduce the chances of overturning and crashing, said at 0.34 in the video, is he saying front braking at full lean is safe ????????????, now that would be interesting

  • @2wheelsteve I think the insert at 0:34 is just an illustration. There is an other biker approaching in the opposite lane and maybe the rider who fells just panics and pulls the break. If the front wheel locks in that situation it looks exactly like shown.

  • @gergelyszakacs Yes thanks for that but the rider hes talking of at 0.34 loses traction not because he braked, thats a crazy assumption since there isnt any proof he did brake, you cant see the brake light from the front of the bike so to use that as an example is poor, ABS on all vehicles is a great idea but using video footage like that at 0.34 is false and misleading, good luck

  • @2wheelsteve this is an academic debate, but if you take a look as the camera zooms in there is a skid mark on the tarmac exactly where the front wheel was

  • @gergelyszakacs If you lose traction on the front when you are banked over ofcourse it will leave a skid, you would have to be a beginner to make that kind of mistake, not a rider who takes his machine that low into bends with obviously good cornering experience, a new rider would have paniced at a fait angle of lean. the only time yopu would apply front brake at that angle is to put the bike down on purpose, weak attempt to fool new riders that ABS will stop that kind of spill happening

  • @gergelyszakacs Oh by the way its the back that goes ( low side spill ) and probably due to rear ( drive ) wheel spinning out

  • Start at 0:34 is classic! LOL

  • Where can I get a pair of those training wheels? Looks like fun.

  • @rxvexe No kidding! A bottle of whiskey, a honda dream 350 and a set of those and your set for the evening!!
