I saw the message about Celine supposedly blowing Sara off the stage. That would only happen if Celine plants a pyro under Sara. Sara's vocal range and sustain is much higher than Celine's. I don't think Celine could handle Sara's historical background and schedule when Sara was in her prime.

Now you can see how the voice ins't everything. No one can sing this with the presence, the gestures and all the emotion as Madonna does when she sings ths song. Just her look can say so many things, and the way Madonna uses her limited voice is perfect. Sarah's face doesn't have much expression.

ALW wanted her to star in the movie...when asked in 1990 who he thought would be good he said Sarah...he said Madonna had an audition and when he asked how she was "there was a hush". He thought Sarah could act and had the looks for the part....interesting that as a soprano it's not the usual voice for Evita but still he wanted her.....though he has later praised Madonna highly and suggested her for Sunset Boulevard! He obviously can't tell Madonna can't act!
