  • Looks like a great production!

  • It's the dewman....

  • Nice looking goblins!

  • What a bunch of haters!

  • Some comments here have insinuated that Maria Kanyova is a "bad soprano" - I can assure you that she is an exceptional soprano and a very generous artist - a true professional. Judging a singer by one small clip is ridiculous.

  • loool i was only 10 when i was sandman lol

  • yeah, i think the original languages are always better

  • The soprano is outsinging Hansel. You totally lose the point of the duet. typical soprano.

  • I totally agree. I love what HGO has done with casting their YAP people to sing this and it was way more effective. This looks kinda ridiculous. I hate the Sandman lady. UGH

  • Ok, this opera is NOT very difficult to sing and most young singers can sing it. Young singers not only look but sound much more believable, esp. in the roles of Hansel and Gretel. This looks a little rediculous to me. BTW Who's the sandman? IMO totally miscast. A Sandman should have a very sweet and reedy tone. Maybe her voice doesn't record well. The witch is fun though!

  • i agree b/c i was only 15 when i was Gretel! it's not that difficult to sing! and the prayer was WAAAAAY too operatic! And you were referring to the Dew Fairy lol, not the Sandman! :-)

  • You are quite wrong. Gretel is one of the most demanding roles a soprano can sing, and the music throughout the opera is very difficult. But I agree this production is a dog's dinner. For a very different take, have a look at the Bel Canto Opera production, posted by me on Youtube.

  • I have sung the Gretel. Ithnk, it's really difficult, too!

  • This opera should really be cast with very young looking singers otherwise it looks ridiculous no matter how good the singers may be. I don't like the sandman

  • Stacey Tappan sounds like a star! More! More!

  • im gonna see this play tommorow! cant wait :)

  • Looks like a really great production.

Kudos to LAOpera for posting this to YouTube to promote it. Very smart, and great to see more opera companies thinking about online media.
