I loved this as a kid. the friendship between the 3 boys, the dreamer, the engineer, and the every man as they seek the adventure of escaping mundane high school existence in a spaceship. I think the movie goes off kilter halfway through and misses the mark. The sense of possibilities and dreams that were built up becomes a hallucinatory joke once they reach space.
Why don't they make movies like theses any more!We need movies like these something that grabs your attention from the get go and keeps it till the end and as a good story plot!

The very first time I laid eyes on River was in SBM. I saw Chris Chambers on the screen and I was like....WHO. IS. THAT. I've been obsessed with River Phoenix ever since. @gummybear422 yeh the scene missing is when Ben meets up with wolfgang to show him his drawing while walking to school. wolfgang gets hassled by steve jackson and his boys right before that and when they get to school some kid rips wolfgang's pants and calls him a nerd. Wolfgang also warns Ben about steve jackson in which Ben replies 'steve jackson has got elephantiasis of the ego. Hence the fight scene.
@Nox0verstreet i've heard about that. i didn't skip anything putting this on, i promise. that part your talking about is apparently in the theatrical version, and not in the version that most people can find to download. sorry about that. if you're interested in watching that particular scene, it's here on youtube. i think the username who has it is mayoush89able, it should be one of the suggested videos right beside this video.
I read somewhere that the reason the ending is so weird is because Joe? The directory ran out of time at the studio he was renting/using so basically he didn't get to finish the movie like he originally wanted to. Pressed for time :/

Some reason VHS and DVD have that scene gone, and I haven't a clue! I appreciate you taking your time to put up the movie though :)

@orion5175 Actually I don't think there was supposed to be a sequel, but you're right, the ending did feel unfinished. I think I heard in an interview by the director that he didn't want it to be like a typical alien movie, without a classic kind of ending, i'm assuming.
Yeah it is a really good movie though. Too bad it didn't become more well-known.
For those unfamiliar: to see this you must prepare yourself physically, mentally and spiritually. Which is why, before viewing this, I practice zazen meditation followed by a quick four mile jog. After this I assemble necessary ingredients for the final step before pressing 'play': 1 joint, 4 beers and a large-ish bag of chips (preferably with guacamole).
