i got an IBM, originally with win 98/2000, has a 533mhz celeron CPU and 128 of memory, i can upgrade to 192mb of memory. already installed winXP it starts, but seems to be too heavy for the machine, it boots, but after a while it just starts to run stucky and CPU is stuck at 100%, will appreciate if u can help me out
@Uberdude25 :DDD I think you´re not very good in logic thinking :D
Yes language isn´t my native language and I make some failures, when writing very fast. German grammar is also very different( In things like comma etc.).
What I meant was that you belongs to trash if you say that this laptop is some piece of waste...
It was kinda sarcasm.
This computer shows, how fast an old Computer can be!
Awesome I'm gonna try to install windows xp on my grandmother's computer. It's got windows 98, 64 MB of ram, and a 20 GB hard drive. It runs twice as fast as MY old computer, which has 4 times the specs! I wonder how it will stack up then...
this is cool. i also had xp on 1998 desktop with Pentium MMX 200Mhz, 384MB RAM, 20GB hard drive. The system was quite smooth as well. I mean not fast & not slow. It was comparable to xp running on Pentium 4. Miss the days I had that pc.
Old computers are the best !!!! My compaq deskpro 4000 has a pentium 1 @ 133 mhz, 81 meg of simm ram and a 4 gb hdd and it runs so well that i watched and commented this video with it.
@lpefreak How? I have a P1@150MHZ, 81MB ram and a 10GB hd and youtube is a hopeless endeavor for it. Even playing a video in windows media player is a huge challenge for it.
I tried installing XP in a VM with only 64mb RAM. It actually wasn't that bad (though running Firefox, OO, and Gimp at once can be a pain. But at least it can play YouTube videos. :)
Is this somehow a response to a video I made? The title is awful similar (my video is called "Windows XP running on a 266 MHz Pentium MMX with 64 MB of RAM") and this video was made just a couple of weeks after I made mine.
Anyway, of course it's wicked fast - it's on a solid-state hard drive that runs almost as fast as RAM! It's pretty cool, nonetheless.
Older machines will run XP fine, it just takes some tweaking.
The only problem i could never over-come with my older machines (486, p1,p2) is that they really cant handle flash (i.e. youtube) though i did find downloading the videos, then playing them did work.
Of course i couldn't really use flash at all with mah 286 :p
you are right, my machin can't play video too, i think 486 is not good enough to install windows xp, as it will not allow to install when less then 64MB RAM
i have 20gb and 384mb of ram i want to seperate vista, pagefile, and search index on different drives/partitions( i know how to create em i just dont know what all my settings should be) can you tell me how i would go about doing that?
So basically i just need to know how big to make the page file and search index partions,
impressed. my pc takes longer to open office, ohh and even longer to open IE, don't get me wrong, i'm PC gamer, i build my PC and got it tuned

You inspired me to buy a 150x CF card & adapter from eBay for my Armada 4160T. It's a 166MHz Pentium with 80MB RAM, also slim.
Also bought a .11b card & USB2 for the dual PCMCIA slots
I'm only running DSL but this will hopefully boost Firefox's speed & make it usable (for my needs)
MartinChir 2 years ago
pentium 166MHz is not enough to view today's web page, I suggest you not to waste you money.

Is this somehow a response to a video I made? The title is awful similar (my video is called "Windows XP running on a 266 MHz Pentium MMX with 64 MB of RAM") and this video was made just a couple of weeks after I made mine.

Is this somehow a response to a video I made? <-- no
The title is awful similar <-- just simple and understandable english
the original harddisk was down so I bought this fastest write speed cf card to replace, the result was very good better then my expectation.
redredredred2 2 years ago
@redredredred2 I seriously suggest going back to windows 98. It's much faster.
richardmaudsley77 2 years ago
I know windows 98 will run faster, but very unstable and no support for usb devices
redredredred2 1 year ago
@redredredred2 Tell that to the USB port on the win98 computer I own.
richardmaudsley77 1 year ago
do you need to install driver for your usb flash drive?
redredredred2 1 year ago
@redredredred2 Just the one and now every drive I tried works. Lots of them were seen as zip drives (and worked) anyway.

redredredred2 3 years ago
Correct, besides i couldn't if i wanted to, no cd drive, and i cant take the hard drive out because its sealed in a caddy xD.
I guess they thought we didn't need access to hard drives back then :p

@WLB91
pentium 2 Almost can run youtube .
Pentium 3 can with a good Grafix card and 500mb+/- Ram.
Pentium 4 can run youtube with background program but not too much .
