  • Got it. Sweet. Quickly becoming a Kershaw addict.

  • needs gimping ;)

  • on the short list (non-serrated).

  • Good review I like the Kershaw knives also.

  • how do i sharpen THOSE serrations?

  • A little too thick on the liners.

  • I got this knife a couple months ago, it's been on my side ever since. This review sold me on it immediately. It is a great choice. Very good review.

  • does anyone know where i can get those serrations put on my cold steel spartan?(all the way up the blade)

  • Love the look!!! Wanna get one so bad!!!

  • Comment removed

  • It's amazing... I started the vid saying "God, that thing is hideous!" But at the end, I was thinking "Wow, that's a pretty nice looking knife!"

  • Love those serrations on the kershaw.

  • hahaha niceknife looks like a squash closed

  • great looking knife USA great , but way over priced... 39.00 more better ...

  • i am one of those guys that doesnt prefer a deep carry, i hate the clip on my SOG trident, i have a habbit of not gully seating it so the bottom jimping protrudes

  • Hmmm I havent had any problem with the Spyerco serrations, even on really loose material, LOL just sayin :)

  • I got an orange one on eBay this morning..There were 10 available , now there's 7.

  • @TheGeminiLounge

    Now there's only one left.

    I bought two for myself.

Have you found out anything on the orange g10 ones? i can't even find a reference to them and the black is going 39-45.00.

Kinda weird, but I should have my first one in today, or at least by Tuesday.

  • @RoboZiggy The description says these particular orange ones have "textured G10 scales overlaying pure stainless steel liners"..That's the only handle type that I'm familiar with on the Kershaw packrat.

Lucky you! I was considering getting two, but I ordered another regular one bci love it so much. There are no more orange ones on eBay right now.. I hope Kershaw produces more variety of this great knife..

  • @TheGeminiLounge

    Hope they do, too.

I am looking for a skyline in red.

Don't want the snap-on logo, but will take one cheap enough.

Hopefully, will find one in the next few months.

There is one on the bay, but it's already at 35.00, with 10.00 shipping. To buy that one would probably take 60.00 shipped.

Too much for me as I have a black g10 skyline already.

  • not a huge fan of Buck, of the several ones i own, the only one still intact is my sheath knife

  • I wanted one of these after seeing this vid.

I looked at the bay this morning and found this for 29.95 + 3.95 shipping! And the kicker is, it is an ORANGE G-10! And they were just listed Feb 7th.

I can't find then anywhere in orange, so I don't know what's up.

However the seller had 10 + left, so go to the bay and do a search on kershaw packrat, and look for the orange ones! Big Pic in on the search page, can't miss it.

does any one know if the orange a special edition?

  • LOL...don't you know organic is supposed to be better for you. Wait. Where am I??

  • If Kershaw put some jimping on this, got rid of the horrid thumb studs and replaced it with a thumb hole spyderco style (which would require a higher thumb ramp which I would also like) then the design would be absolutely top notch. As it is I still like it though.

  • can this be a plain blade too?

  • @benjamin22cal yup my buddy just got one

  • You should check out the veff serations from crkt, you might find them amazing.

  • that thing is fuckin cool lookin

  • Would you say Kershaw is one of the highest value knife suppliers out there. Given they supply such great pieces at such low prices?

  • @TheTaoofJKD I probably would say they are.

  • i noticed that knife is stamped may 09 on the tang - looking down at my skyline i notice it is also stamped may 09 sorta cool!

  • 3:00 ''Sick Sick Sick, the number of the beast!''

Nutnfancy doing an Iron Maiden cover.

  • Why don't you do a review on the Fox - Kempo Bantay Folder knife by Borut Kincl?

  • why don't you do a review on the Kershaw Rake folding knife?

  • I don't like the handle, would definitely be a slow hand transition to switch grip to overhand. The spine needs to be slightly curved upward so as to not allow the thumb to slip forward. Overall it might be a good "pocket knife" just not a good fighting knife.

  • For some reason this blade reminds me of a pirate knife. ;-)

  • You need to review the Kershaw Rogue. Kick ass blade.

  • i use an oso sweet on the job, (which was really cheap for a good knife). How much does this go for?

  • @nightmarefacility The Packrat goes for around $40 to $60 it depends on the store you get it from.

  • After seeing this review, i had to go get one... lost my custom snap-on leak about a month ago and had to grab a $5 replacement till i found one i liked......so glad i found this one...ordered it a day ago and here it lies.....such an awesome knife!!!!!!!!

  • i am starting to absolutely love kershaw. Their knives are extremely cool and great quality. And the best thing is that they're extremely high value!

  • Cabela's has a nice Kershaw on sale on their front page for like 19 bucks. I always pick up knives there when they are on sale because of the value.

  • I carry a Kershaw Scallion for my edc, but after seeing this video, I am going to but the Packrat, I love the blade shape

  • @mbentley6

I'm also carrying a Scallion right now. After watching some of the videos by nutnfancy... I'll have my eyes open when I go to the Fort Worth Gun Show this weekend. :) Love Kershaw

  • For me, I like Kershaw as edc, but Cold Steel for tactical stuffs, Mostly because I like the blade shapes. I'm a bit partial to kukri blades haha...

  • love the tnp :D:D:D:D:D

  • I have found the Kershaw blades very brittle.

I have broken 3 of them. Cool design work well but I have found the blades fragile.

  • I think Kershaw is great, i have had my Storm 2 for just over a year now, only thing i dont like is the recurve in the blade style

  • Well, I have had mine for a little while now, all I can say is I love it..

  • Well.... I finally found one for $41.00- $50.00

shipped to my door.. Can't wait!! Really like your reviews by the way...

  • How do you sharpen this serration?

  • Man i like this blade. I actually really like the lines on it. Not exactly sure how you would sharpen those serrations, though.

  • Hey Nutnfancy... how about a review of the Nomad from Al Mar? BTW, nice review of the Packrat!

  • Darn, I thought I finally found a flat ground one. Oh well, thanks for the info dahlberg123.

  • What is the edge geometry like? is it hollow or flat? Great review.

  • @BrendanGausvik - Hollow ground.

  • Great video(s)! I just bought the Packrat and I love it, super sharp out of the box, and extremely comfortable in hand. I have found two small issues in my opinion, thumb-stud is impossible to operate (I know, it's a flipper but still) and it has a rattle when opened, anyone else have a rattle?

  • I love Kershaw! I just added this one to my Amazon wish list. Feel guilty about having so many knives, so will wait to buy this one.

  • I got a Kershaw Tyrade G10 for christmas which I believe is very similar to the packrat. You should review the Tyrade at some point.

  • Just got this knife as a Christmas present, i love it !

Ignore what the other guy said about the flipper, it's just fine for me (and I have bear hands) but the thumb studs were hard to use. It doesn't matter seeing how you probably would never use it; but it's great that they at least give you the option. I don't think it's spring activated (seeing how the manual reads pattented tortion bar technology)

  • Unless the torsion bar is broken, it should be. You'll know for sure if you halfway close the knife and let go, the blade should bounce upward a little on its own. However, the blade won't move ALL the way into the open position by itself; that would make it an automatic.

  • i bought two about two yeas ago...the spring action is just not working , love the knive....so mailed it to warnty dept. at 18600 sw teton ave. tualatin or.97062 ....we will see if they waranty there product, we shall see . not abuse and real word product stuff sent out 12/23/09

  • Kershaw/ZT/Shun has one of the best warranties on knives that I have seen. I have ZT 0400 that I just dropped off at their headquarters (I was passing by) because the torsion bar broke on it. They fixed it in 20 min but said the blade was pretty worn and would like to replace it. They didn't have any blades so the offered to mail the knife to me when they did. 10 days later I (this monday) I recieved a 100% brand new knife. I guess they decided the old one was too worn to try to replace.

  • i hope so as stated, it sounds very positive and that real world stuff...standing behind products, and warranties, sounds good and positive merry christmas to all and happy hearts

  • about a month latter ...got my knife back and the spring and handle is new ...it was the same blade. everything was as new and great working order...im very pleased and would buy another blade from them no problem

  • Now I need a PackRat to go with my Skyline. Love the Kirshaw blades.

  • I love the Skyline - such a simple but very adequate EDC knife. I love it so much that I bought 4 extras and gave them to friends as Christmas gifts.

  • If you like the Skyline, ya gotta try the NRG blade. Deploys a bit faster and is a bit smaller than the skyline, but it has that same simple, logical design. I grabbed on off ebay for $26 + $6 shipping ... and LOVE it.

  • i have the ken onion....the spring assist is worn ....im going to try the warenty now...mail it in and we see what happens now...

  • oregon made brother yea

  • Just bought the knife; and am sorry I bought it.

I like the handle, weight and the blade is ok, once you get used to it.

Opening is terrible. I wish they used a SOG opening design. The thumb studs are useless for opening - try it. The flipper design is awkward and unreliable; usually it takes a couple of attempts to activate the flipper.

Wouldn't consider it for defensive use; i'd be dead if I had to rely on the thumb studs or awkward flipper.

  • I bought this knife today based 100% on this review and I love it. This will be my primary carry and hunting knife. I love the texture of the handles...no slip! Good job and thanks! The curved handle is very functional and allows easy opening of the blade!!!

  • I'm sold, awesome review Nutn.

  • Dang Nutn'!!!

    You finger got jacked up!

    ;D be more carefull bro!

  • Looks like another great knife from Kershaw. I have the Kershaw Junk Yard Dog II composite and I love it! Excellent review and another good possibility for my collection.

  • GREAT REVIEW! ! got one on order :)

  • do they make in in a lock back. almost lodt my thumb with a lockliner in bolivia

  • Bought this knife today. Thanks for another great review!

  • i like my edc to be a four inch fix blade. folders just dont turn me on. also if i cant shave with it, also a bummer.

  • i like the 1670TBLKST the best with the 14c28n steel

  • Right hand carry only. Come on Kershaw! How hard is it to drill holes on the other side?

  • ... it's a flipper.

  • I get that. The pocket clip is set up either tip up or tip down for right handers only. No option for lefties.

  • Ah-ha. You could always carry it in your pocket and flip it around before opening if it really floats your boat, but I understand the frustration with fumbling around with a knife before you can open it.

I was fortunate enough to be born into this world a righty, but hey, at least you have spyderco... well, some spydercos.

  • My best friend is a lefty, I feel your pain - but one thing I noticed: he is a hell of a lot better with his right hand than I am with my left! It just sucks how much of a premium he has to pay on things like guitars for example, and how many companies limit choices. I think that there are enough lefties out there that you can really vote with your wallets - its the only thing companies seem to understand. Because someone so close to me has to deal with this crap, I've made a point to do so.

  • Looks like the handle and liner construction are very similar to the ZT0350 in material and thickness. I especially like the liner to blade thickness ratio. Beware: on my 0350, the pivot screw tension had to be adjusted to the point where the screw would free-wheel in the hole in order for the assisted deploy to work smoothly. I had to use Loctite to keep the screw in the hole. Check the pivot screw tension before you buy to ensure that the screw is not so loose that it will fall out with use.

  • seansobes, I would disagree on rather being shot than stabbed. It is a lot easier to treat trauma from a knife wound than a gun wound. You tend to get a lot more complications from gun shot wounds.

  • Depends on the type of bullet, bullet caliber, etc VS the knife's size and weight. For instance, if you've seen Fitzen's knives, those things will cut you in half.

Generally, it's not the stab that kills someone, but the removal of the blade, "freeing" severed vessels and blood loss. Gunshot wounds just suck in general, but given the choice of something that kills me, I'll take a bullet.

  • Eh, I dunno man.

I mean, I've been stabbed (funny story, I assure you... <.<) and yes it hurts, but really were talking more specifically about the knife or round in which you use. Also, how deep is the knife wound etc.

I'd rather much be shot with a .22 round rather than a .556 or .50 for instance. I'd rather be stabbed with a toothpick style knife than a broad ol' dagger.

Complications can occur from a gun shot or a knife wound, I think we'd all best avoid getting hurt in general. ;-)

  • for knives, i prefer a heavier one. as for guns, cant really tell you yet.

  • Comment removed

  • LMAO - thanks jake! -- Veri

  • seriously? if people werent shooting each other, they would be stabbing each other. humans will always have weapons. guns, knives, rocks, etc. so please go somewhere else.

  • You forgot to mention fists and teeth.

  • oh yea. i dont know about you people, but i'd rather get shot than stabbed.

  • so what happens when only the criminals have guns and law abiding citizens don't? criminals wont just hand over their illegal weapons. and a house to house search of the whole country would cost trillions...

  • Not to mention the invasion on our right to protection against "search and seizure". God bless the founding fathers for making a government takeover so cumbersome.

  • Ultimately, the UNs Small Arms Treaty is designed to register, ban and CONFISCATE firearms owned by private citizens like YOU.

So far, the gun-grabbers have successfully kept the exact wording of their new scheme under wraps.

But looking at previous versions of the UN Small Arms Treaty, you and I can get a good idea of whats likely in the works.

If passed by the UN and ratified by the U.S. Senate, the UN Small Arms Treaty would almost certainly FORCE national governments to:

  • Dear fellow patriot,

With willing one-world accomplices in Washington, D.C., gun-grabbers around the globe believe they have it made.

In fact, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton just announced the Obama Administration would be working hand in glove with the UN to pass a new Small Arms Treaty.

Disguised as legislation to help in the fight against terrorism, insurgency and international crime syndicates, the UN Small Arms Treaty is nothing more than a massive, GLOBAL gun control scheme.

  • Great job as always Nutnfancy.

I really like you blades under $40 list. I'm adding some to my list..Christmas list that is :-)

    Thanks

  • Made down the street from my house :)

  • looks like your finger cuaght the sharper part of that blade nice vid

  • I think it was the Pinka that bit him. ;) -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • yeah it was the benchmade pika, or whatever lol, not a very good blade at all...btw thank you NF for doing that review of the kershaw barrage, it was the primary reason i decided to buy it! an amazing blade for the money!

  • love this guys videos...... :) thanks man

  • You rock, Nutnfancy!

  • good stuff

  • haha.....Wizard of OZ issues.

  • funny that you would bag on the spyderco serrations. You always talk about POU, well, spyderco uses deep serrations and are superior to cutting rope and thicker materials. It all depends on what you are going to be cutting. Anyway, ove the video reviews, long time subscriber :)

  • I think it has a lot of the second kind of cool just because nothing else looks like it.... So its different.

  • Yet another knife reviewed that cannot be legally carried in the state of Texas.

  • nice vid i fell like the old nuttnfancy is back time to subscribe again

  • Yo nutn, im the one that asked to see your gunsafe. i meant to actually see them, not cause i wanted to steal them or anything, sorry if i offended you, but whatever. thanks for finally responding to my request. keep up the good work.

oh yeah, where those survival kit vids at?

  • Oh Crick, he's not offended at all! Not at all, he grins about it. -- Veri (Nutn' sister)

  • I misspoke on the weight: The packrat is 3.8oz compared to Skyline's 2.4oz (which is a balanced flipper design, but not assisted opening)

  • Nice job man! Another great vid from TNP Production Studios!

But Nutn, how many knives do you have?

  • Error: Integer Overflow. Apparently great many ^^

  • rofl haha

  • The blade shape reminds me of a fishing fillet style. I bought the Kershaw Skyline after Nutn's last review. Dang, this is a little too close to the Skyline, but it deploys faster and do prefer that bulbous ended handle. For my hands, the Skyline is a bit too narrow on the palm side of the handle. But this packrat improves on it. The Skyline is only 2.4oz though compared to the packrat's 3.5. Made in America and date coded - Yee! I could be real happy with either. Another fine review Nutn!

  • excellent video

  • a reView on a Kershaw STORM 2 WOULD BE GREAT

  • I don't know why people wont like the shape of the overall knife. To me, personally, I think it's streamlined. I think that's cool that Kershaw is looking out for the people who think "I like my knife and all, but I would like it more if it was more aero-dynamic looking".

  • the locking style on this knife sucks. this style of lock blade has failed and folded on me on a few occasions. and they were on kershaw knives. i found the osbourne benchmade knife has the most efficient locking system of any folding knife i have found out there

  • What do you do to make the lock fail for an EDC blade? You shouldn't put to much pressure on the unsharpened side. Its a liner lock.

  • i didnt put much if any pressure on the blade. i could literaly close it without unlocking the lock. on not one but three different kerswha knives with this locking style...therefore i dont like them or trust them.

  • I doubt it, I don't see that happening to other people. Plus, send it back to Kershaw. The time you got your blade also should be taken into consideration. Quality standards change all the time. This is a brand new knife, just recent. Nutn doesn't have a problem and I don't see other people having the problem either.

  • thats true... it was about 5 years ago since my kershaw problem.the kinks may have and probably been worked out

  • lol 2:50

i'm addicted. i'm sick. sick, sick sick!

  • Another great review, I just bought a 10" Kershaw outcast...awesome! best chopper i've used. I actually checked the TNP page while i was in the store to see if if it was on there.

  • Nice knife.

  • Great review. I watched it more than once. I like the standardized folding knife talking points. Great job

  • Where did you get that nasty blister? =O

  • His "Pinkachu" did it to him. Check his vid of the Pika G10. How do I know this? Because I stockpile Nutnfancy vids so I can watch them in a row when bored. It's an addiction.

  • It was really goofy looking to me at first, but after using it for a while, it's grown on me...It's kind of exotic looking. I like that.

  • oh man that's cool looking.

I wish it was possible to make an ergonomic kukri folder =(

  • Now i know what i want for my birthday, nice ergonomic looking knife.

  • "i love buck !" lol

  • Wow, nutn' always gets me excited all over again about this wonderful hobby we share.

  • I broke my leek tip off in about 3 months. Dropped it.

    Amazing knives though.

  • I was wondering why the clip looked like it curved the wrong way.

when it was on the other end it would have swept with the handle curve

  • US Made? SHUT UP!

    hahaha great review nutn

  • thank god he kept it 15 minutes i live nutn but sometimes his videos can go from cool to me loosing concentration from babbling like im back in high school watching some boring documentary

  • havent finished watching yet lol

buuuttt first thing i noticed is it looks kiiinnddda like a shark? no? lol

  • @brando35709 i can see the shark hints

  • Excellent review Nutnfancy.

Kershaw serrations are truly the best.

I'm wondering why you haven't reviewed the Kershaw RAM yet? The black one is beautiful. Flipper design, no AO. Sweet blade shape, light-weight, and a powerful Hawk-lock.

    Get your hands on one.

  • 5 stars as usual. Thanks Nut'n.

9:39 I think you meant, "isn't frame lock."

  • If they made an all black version, it would be perfect for me.

  • "Slight Wizard of Oz issues..."

Nice job. I just picked up the Kershaw Skyline after your review. It's the first knife I've spent any kind of money on and so far, I'm pleased. So, thanks for all the info.

    Keep it up.

  • The clip is the only thing i dont really care for on the kershaws, but man is their quality just awesome and the low price is a plus...

  • got kind of a re-curve goin there . . thats gonna be wird to sharpen

  • Trust me dude Kershaw knows who you are.

  • just got my kershaw oso sweet omg its such a nice knife granted its the first knife that i spent over 5 bucks on

  • REVIEW ALL YOUR KNIVES PLEASE!

We want to know which knives to avoid.

  • Watch Nutn's knife reviews then request new ones. It's pretty all in there: see the infamous CS Pocket Bushman as an example of a review of a design to avoid.

BTW, you coulda make a LESS THAN RECOMMENDED playlist Nutn ^^

  • love kershaw blades

    great review as always

  • Thank you nutnfancy for another superb review! :)

  • sweet its under 40 Min. I love Kershaw blades havnt been let down by one. Amazing value.

  • Scratch that. Under 20 mins!! xD

  • Another great review I will be picking one of these bad boys up next week.

  • Thanks nutnfancy. Always enjoy your reviews!!!!!

  • My dad sells the tools to the Kershaw manufacturers in Oregon. Haha... Free Kershaw blades for me!!!

  • I want me a plain edge one. Kershaw is putting out a lot of cost effective high quality stuff

  • HaHa

    Nutn loves his gimping.

  • Another great review Nutn. A++

    Radioactive

  • Wow just 15 min that-s a new record for nutnfancy, a short review but steel very informative no doubt ; )

  • My dads trickin' out my wasr-10 for christmas!!!!

were gettin tappco dark earth mags, stocks, and foregrip, an ar syle flash suppresser and an auto loader along with a carbine bag

  • wicked dude

  • If you don't review a knife that you have because it is bad, then how are we supposed to know not to buy it. If you really care, just do a short review and tell us what's so bad about the knife!!

  • eww serrations

  • A DC job on this one in the future??? Good review. Thanks as always.

  • love it .the USA on the blade was the winning point for me ,,,,death to china,,,,

  • @gda882002 lol china can't make anything.

  • flippers are cool!
