This poor lady doesn't know what electricity is. She operates under the misapprehension that faith is what powers light bulbs... It boggles my mind how such people manage to function in a modern society.
There is a difference real faith (which knowledge) and blind faith. "Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld."
It may be a shock as a former member of the Nation of Islam & now the Nation of Gods & Earths (or Five% NOI), that I must say we need to forgive Ted Haggard. The Bible states "we have all fallen short of the glory of God."
Paul the apostle taught homosexuality is an "unnatural sin." The reason y it is so hard for 1 to stop being gay is b/c unlike other sins, it is unnatural. When 1 repents (or turns) from sin, God changes the person. Believers must remain steadfast & fight temptation though.
You whant to fight for your lord and to keep a wheat waffer holy? That seems pretty fundamentalist to me buddy. You claim we are shoving atheism down your throat while at the same time people like you are indoctrinating children almost from birth to believe in your religion.
Agnosticism is a great thing. It keeps me away from some of the cold atheist fucks, and it certainly keeps me right the hell away from fucking right-wing fundamentalist monsters like yourself. You should be ashamed, trying to force your religion onto others.
I don't believe in Atheism or Catholicism. I don't try and force my belief that both of them are wrong, and the arguements regarding them futile, onto everyone else, so why the hell should you?
Well, Dawkins really nails hard complete agnosticism in the god delusion. Would you want me to give the chapter to you? Because complete agnosticism («It keeps me away from some of the cold atheist fucks, and it certainly keeps me right the hell away from fucking right-wing fundamentalist monsters like yourself.») is not the best solution as a middle ground.
Do you consider the probability of God? Do you think it's 50-50? If so, then you must also be an agnostic towards unicorns, fairies, gobelins, etc... And that's not logic.
«I don't believe in Atheism»
Atheism is not about belief, it's about disbelief.
«and the arguements regarding them futile»
Futile? Hell no. Look at what's going on in the world because of bronze age mythology, and tell me and it doesn't concern you.
Atheism is still a belief. It's a belief that there is no God. You believe that there is no God. You don't know it anymore than I do, but that's what you believe.
And my online problem with the hyper-rational science/logic argument is that as things stand we DON'T know everything. The way we view the world is constantly changing with new discoveries, and there are so many things we don't know. There are still things beyond our comprehension at this point, which includes the possibility of god.
And to believe they exist without proof is illogical. Because there's an infinitely small possibility that a god exist (wich one btw?, because the number of gods is like, infinite), like 0,0000000000000000001% (this number is not accurate btw). Using the argument : «We don't know everything, so it's okay to believe in God» is illogical, and let's put it as it is: silly and stupid.
That I can agree with, but there are such an infinite number of different possibilities about exactly how we came into existance, I think that something like this is beyond our comprehension. There are some questions that can never be answered.
When speaking to religious folks, I have found I get the smile when they think they are speaking to someone "who doesnt get it" or when they give you an answer they think you cannot disagree with.
The smile feels like they are looking down on the person who doesnt believe.
Let me first say: I am not Christian or Catholic, nor was I raised in such a household. For your purposes, you can call me a borderline agnostic.
Your other pair of responses were well put together and I found myself agreeing with you, but in your response to this woman (despite her apparent inability to articulate a coherent argument and ignorance of the existence of French Canada) you just came off like a dick.
Hes just mad she thought he was European. She thinks shes all knowledgeable trying to guess he doesn't come from Switzerland, when really, she has the wrong continent. (I'm agnostic too, and I agree with this guy for the most part, but i think we should leave Catholics alone, they don't hurt anyone, and God keeps them in line)
Just so you know, it is illegal to post another person's personal information on the internet without their permission. Just something to take into consideration if Dom decides to sue your pathetic ass.
faith in what, faith that science is correct (and i know it is) faith that there is nothing waiting for you on the other side? consider this from both sides
That's not faith. Science is based on logic and evidence.
«faith that there is nothing waiting for you on the other side»
That's not faith, we call that logic. #1: We've been dead for billions of years before being born. Somebody here remember something?
#2: Dead= no 5 senses (touch, see, smell, ear, taste), we can't have memories, personality, can't be happy or sad, feel pain, think, do, because we don't have a brain and body.
Thomas Aquinas' "Summa Theologica" is a work also based on logic and evidence. Wiki it. Theology is a science too...otherwise, how could it have the '-ology'? :-)
Wow, that's evidence that it's science? It ends with -ology?! Sorry buddy, theology is not science because it ends that way. You know, SCIENTOLOGY, TAROTOLOGY, ASTROLOGY, etc...
That was a pathetic argument (if we can call it an argument)
The only things that I can recall desecrating off the top of my head are walls and doors with graffitti and a glass panel in a door which I kicked in.
Theology means, rational expressions for god, but that meaning was adopted when the Christian adopted it. So like fsmdude says, it's a lot like the word Scientology. That is, used it to make none science sound like science.
I have a hard time believing god, but I don't try to force my views on others because they will on change when they are ready to. You can't force something on to someone if they don't believe in it.
It's amazing the lengths to which people will go to justify their laughable beliefs, which they hold merely because they were told so when they were very young and gullible:
"You don't think this cracker is God? How you can deny that, but at the same time flip on light switches? Both ideas are equally likely! Really! I feel sorry for you!"
When people insist that you believe on faith, they are really saying you should just guess about what's true and live your whole life based on that guess.
