Dmanlamius I have a question: How important is action/set up when slapping? I've been wanting to learn slapping lately but I've never had my bass set up. Would doing so help me in the learning process, or is it not that big of a deal at first? Any advice would be great man, cheers
@MudSharkDanceLesson Very important! You don't want a high action when slapping the bass, because it makes things more difficult. Get your bass set-up, so the strings are as close to the board as possible (it doesn't cost much!)
Hey, thanks for the lesson/exercise... I enjoyed it.... I am curious what you are using to get your tone(other than your bass, of course). It sounded especially meaty and thick on this video. Is it a preset EQ/compression in your recording software or a stomp-box or what? Sounds great man....
@kusi0r The only reason I create these slap precision riffs are so people can practice their precision. Its not really meant to sound good. Just meant to get those slaps nice and precise :)
Im looking to start playing bass Ive been looking at lessons and riffs online but I dont own one (yet). DO you have any recommendations on where I should start (in terms of guitars)?
@Karl0n I am an experienced/gigging bassist. I would buy cheap in case you decide the bass isn't for you, but MAKE SURE it has a good(low) action(distance of the string from the fretboard). A bad action will make learning more difficult and decrease the likelihood of you sticking with it. I have several "expensive" basses, but I was at a store the other day and played a $300 Squire Jazz bass and was really impressed with the way it played and the tone it produced. Just a thought...
@sealejon wasn't really intending to pass around $250 for the first one, as a matter of fact I found a store where I can get a beginners kit for around 150 and was hoping to check it out tommorow..
@Karl0n the price doesn't matter on your first one, in fact the cheaper the better. Its just that lots of beginner/cheap basses are poorly set-up and hard to play. Just find one that plays well and/or have it professionally set up(won't cost much). Good luck... I hope you become the next Paul McCartney....
These videos keep reminding me why I decided to play the bass and not the guitar. Thank you for the lessons. Keep 'em coming!

IMO it would sound better played fingerstyle. Still, good riff. Cheers.
