That diesel on the back was actually a class 67, originally brought into this country to run the Post Office trains, which were then abandoned in favour of road transport.....
It would be there only to assist in the shunting during the turning at Newcastle.
No other assistance on a run intended to be a test for Tornado.

Sorry. Yes on closer inspection it is a 67. I think the colour scheme of the coaches made me think it was a HST.
