it's not pee its this stuff called meconium and it's left over colouring from the wings :)

I know. Some kids that saw butterflies do this thought the meconium was blood; they were like "Eww, it's bleeding!" and I had to explain that it was meconium

This is super! We missed all 5 of our class butterflies emerging this week and I was so disappointed. 2 emerged overnight and the remainder during the short time we were out doing a mapping activity. The children will be delighted when I show them this on Mon

Yeah; I've raised Painted Lady Butterflies myself. I had five caterpillars; only two successfully changed into butterflies. I only saw one of these hatch out in full view; it was amazing, though the chrysalis was near the ground so it had to crawl up to a side wall in the butterfly house to dry its wings (this butterfly grew faster than the others did, too). The other emerged early one morning; when I got up I saw it sitting on the empty shell, its wings nearly dry and it fixing its proboscis

I can't help but imagine the "evolving" music from the Pokemon video games as I watch a butterfly emerge from the chrysalis
