Are you kidding me? I am not against skits, I think they are great way to communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ (ex: skit guys) but this is just a seeker friendly humanistic approach that ultimately denies the power of God. We are not called to make people laugh or give them a great time, we are called to proclaim the Gospel. Brethren let us not call each other names but pray to our Heavenly Father that the church in America be restored. The true church of the book of Acts.
no one should just by and take the words of others. seek the answers yourself from the Gods word. because theres alot of people out their load our heads full of peanut butter and we just sit and let them pile it on.... just something to think about.
@shoots1978. i think that one of the things thats often misunderstood about christians is that we cant have fun. that all we have is a list of donts and everything is evil or a sin. ive been in youth ministry for 7 years and instantly knew which student who love eating that discusting mess. and laughed so hard, some would have thought i was sinning! everyone loves to laughs and needs it. and i also knew how this could tie into a bible lesson if you wanted to. but explaining that no one ....cont.
I'm not against doing skits, but this was really horrible. At least keep them bible based and even have the teens and kids learn something from God's word, we have the bible (old testament) that we can learn from. I don't think the skit guys would ever do anything this bad?
This arguing and legalism that is going on within the comments here is exactly what turns people away from the church and ultimately from Christ. As Christians we are not called to judge each other and tear each other down but rather to love each other and build each other up. There is a place for critique but it should be done in love and not in snarky judgement. Please remember why Jesus came and what he asks of us.
briefly read some of the comments below and I'm wondering how many of you are actually involved in student ministry. we used this skit as an icebreaker the same night 65 kids melted before Christ in the altar with 7 or 8 of them coming to Christ for the first time.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. ~ I Cor 13:11
Coming of age in Judaism is 13. The scriptures make it very clear that we are to PUT AWAY childish things. I feel sorry for the young people in this youth group. Their leaders are not helping them in the way God desires. They are perpetuating childishness. I find it sad that rather than growing, churches are helping to create spiritual infants.
The video was funny!! But in my opinion the arm pit thing and eating it was alittle too out of hand. But it was a cute video. But i wish they connected to God in some way!
As for the sanctuary, that was something in the Tabernacle or Temple, but not really in our churches. We have auditoriums but not really sanctuaries. However it is a place that should be respected. I think I may agree with you now. Thanks for the conversation!
I am not sure that I agree with you. You might be right. Neither of us knows what happened after this or even what kind of church this is. I do see your point, I am just not sure I agree. I am a youth pastor, I don't generally use skits, but I have done my share of gross things to the teens. Mostly with food, like bugs, wasabe, onions, blue cheese, but never anything like this. I am not planning to do it in the future, but I am not sure it is wrong.
How can you say it would most likley be a false conversion. Do you search their hearts? Do you try the reins? I don't think you can judge that whatsoever. I most likely do not agree with what goes on at this church in the video. They probably are seeker sensative and play the so called Christian Rock. (I wonder if they smoke Christian dope and drink Christian beer too?) But you claim here if a Solid gospel were presented they would respond. In a previous comment you claim the opposite.
You really can't have it both ways Ken! If the gospel has power in my very conservative very Baptist church, and it does, then it also has power in this seemingly contemporary church. My original question to you was What is it that you object to here? Is it wrong to have any kind of skit or humor during a youth rally? Should these things be altogether eliminated?
I think you have a good point about bring glory to God. Are you a teen? I am not a teen. This type of slapstick makes teens laugh. If you can make a grumpy teen laugh at the beginning of a youth rally perhaps it will make him more willing to listen to a gospel message. I don't think I will be doing this one anytime soon but I am not sure that I object to it either.
To quote Todd Friel: "If you gross out the kids enough, they'll want to have their sins forgiven." This is tragic.
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. ... Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits. Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven." Matt 7:15, 19-21
this was great! i write skits for our youth drama team and this is so funny, we won't be doing this skit however because we have someone allergic to peanuts! ah NUTS!!!

Great Video! Wonderful way to get kids attention upfront, then share the Gospel with them. Skits are a such great tool.

It's ashame, the world looks at stuff like this and thinks the Church is a bunch of yo-yo's. If I were not a Christian I would walk the other way.
