@CharlesWaddell Speaking specifics, I believe by saying that he meant local professional football. I followed the Lynx but when TFC arrived, of course I started going to those.
@poro424 I partially agree with what you said but please, if your going to refer to Canada AND the USA, say NORTH before America. Us Canadians don't like being called Americans. Other than that though, I do say football, because it's the true football. Not that American Football shit sport.
This video was created specifically to appeal to residents in Southern Ontario and to get people of different ethnic backgrounds to support the Canadian team. In fact, they went to great lengths to get people of different backgrounds to appear in this video. But, why no women soccer players, fans, or other female personalities? Anyone who's been to a TFC game can see that a large number of the fans are females. Know your audience. Come on.
@marybonevelle We put out plenty of open casting calls Mary. If you were concerned about equal representation why did you not reach out and get involved? It's easy to criticize, it's much harder to stand up and do something.
@ItsCalledFootball14--Didn't hear or see the casting calls, obviously, or I would have stood up and done something. The first I heard of it was when I saw the video.
@bfonovic what a word to use much better than the "STERILE" experience of watching on the sides again another person who does not understand what its about... if i sit on the roof of bmo or in the centre 10th row or in the corner or even in the north end a true supporter loves every single moment of it. ie when i watch an away game on tv or i go to a home game its the same feeling for me.
the only way this thing will ever work is through education... and why would a guy wearing a boston hat be talking about canadian football at least take the hat off for this video.
@treble41 tfc attendance has nothing to do with prices... its the product. and if you were a true fan you would sit in $20 seats which are available at all times on local websites like kijiji and craigs. and supporting local soccer doesnt mean you have to go to the game just by turning on your tv to the game is supporting it.
Thank you to our neighbors to the North for putting this video together. We really should support local soccer all around North America, in Canada and here in the States. Not just the national teams, but also the local teams, (in my case, that would be the US national team and Sporting KC, respectively) regardless of whether your team is MLS, NASL and so on.
I'd love to support TFC local soccer, but too bad that one ticket for decent seats (on the sides) costs $60+. Students don't have that type of money to regularly spend on games, I'd rather go to the local Mississauga OHL games for $15. High ticket prices means that you've priced out younger or casual fans so don't complain about attendance.
@treble41 Have you ever watched a game in the South End? Much better than the STERILE experience of watching on the sides. I purchased FOUR ticket for Canada v Ecuador on June 1st for $68 inclusive!

great video except for the fact Duane Rollins is in it and is clearly not about supporters of football coming together for the greater cause ... him being in this video is hypocrisy at it's highest level and taints the overriding message of this video
I totally agree. Unfortunately it's a bit hard to be at a national game when they are not held in your City. You want us to support the National teams, then travel throughout the country. There are a lot of soccer fans outside of Toronto.
@Leoshpa "Association football." Which became "soccer" before it became just "football." Also, snobs like you like to post this garbage everywhere and claim that the sport is called football everywhere else and therefore it is somehow the only "right" name when this is anything but the case. The term "calcio" comes to mind.
1) As socceronly mentioned on the comments section at CSN, the plan is to do a set of region videos like this one. Vancouver, Montreal, your time will come.
2) Boston hat or no hat, the point of the video is to listen to a message. If you perfer a visual spectacle, watch keegan's canadian soccer montage.
3) I like the approach that this video being the first one, has taken. Get the recognizable faces/voices like Reed, Wheeler, Jack and Setlur on to give it a good start.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A good idea undone by stupidity/ignorance. First, they claim that local soccer "arrived" in Canada with Toronto FC. Sorry dummies, it arrived decades before that. Ever heard of the NASL? And then some dolt wears a Boston Red Sox hat while talking about his "support local" credentials. How typically Torontonian, on both counts. Too bad someone with brain wasn't asked to edit this video . . .
@seathanaich1 Clearly you have not listened to it. He didn't say that. He said arrived in Toronto and for all intents and purposes of recent history that is true. It's in the immediate sense. Did we have infinite time and resources to do this? zero actually. How much other footage did we have? Very little, all in one go. It's just not that bad, and it isn't ruined by Gareth Wheeler wearing that hat.

Who "claimed" that local soccer arrived in Canada with Toronto FC? No one did. The dude speaking is an immigrant to the country who discovered the local game through TFC.
@SeaEmpire But it never really ARRIVED until then. (I've been to Blizzard - both NASL and CSL variety - Lynx, Rockets, ThunderHawks and Shooting Stars games)
Guy is new to the country, we worked with what we had to tell a story. It works. Should we have started off in 1904? It's a 3 minute video, a longer one will come later.
@SeaEmpire You're off base. When was "local soccer" in Toronto ever a real success pre-TFC. OK, my beloved Blizzard had a few moments of glory but they never consistently were part of the Toronto sports fabric the way TFC has been. I think you're whinging for the sake of whinging.
Where's your video? Consider this a challenge. Produce your own video and let's see what you can do.
IT'S ABOUT TIME! Love this video, and everyone has to support the canadian teams!
Sad to see only 10,000 views though.

Is right boys, everyone should support their local footy clubs. Football is tribal, out-of-towners just blur those boundaries.

If that guy really supported "local soccer" he would have known that the Toronto Lynx had been around for over a decade.
