I couldn't agree more with Benigno. Watching him everyday changes your perception of him. I never felt like he played with any kind of intensity as a Met. He does whatever he wants. The poorly timed surgery, the jogging down the first base line, the leisurely strolls in center field drove me nuts about Beltran. I'm really glad the Giants didn't watch him everyday. Otherwise, the Mets would have never netted Zack Wheeler.

He even helped Wright with his swing early in his career (Wright said this during a game back in 07). Beltran was good for the Mets too bad he can't control injuries. Would've been nice to resign him but he's old & our farm is depleted. We got a good young arm in return for him if not I'm sure Beltran stays

@musicguy550 you clearly don't understand the arbitration process. here's the difference. thanks to the contract, if carlos utilizes his no-trade clause and stays a met in 2011 and leaves via free agency, the mets get nothing. players with arbitration clauses that sign with another team as a free agent receive compensatory draft pics. the trade with the giants allows the mets to get a prospect in return, and the option of re-signing beltran after this season remains.

@musicguy550 it is not a contradiction, because the two things are independent of one another. you argue beltran had only one good season. i proved that to be false with statistical evidence. in the case of beltran's contract, he has exceeded the monetary value of it. the devil lies in the no trade clause and lack of arbitration. if beltran left after this season the mets receive no compensatory picks due to his status as a type A free agent. you really should be looking this all up for yourself
