  • Unhappily, I could not hear Shakespeare over the music, so turned the video off at 0:27.

As a musician, I have some difficulty even speaking while I'm playing in rehearsal. Listening to the spoken word or reading with background music is not among my options. The rhythm of music is demanding, seldom pleased to compete with the rhythm of spoken or read words.

Here's a third element: neither music nor noise, but a large rug thrown over the floor during recordings. It works.

  • Thank you for your comments, About the music, it is only there at all because we filmed in a small theater in Stratford upon Avon and it had a wooden floor which was so loud one can hear the creaking as we moved around Alan. We decided music was the best of two evils as the creaky stage was even more disturbing. Still Alan is Wonderful. God rest his soul.

  • WHAT A SUPERB PERFORMANCE OF THIS LOVELY SONNET. A PITY THE MUSIC WAS SO INSISTENT AT THE EXPENSE OF THE WORDS..

  • Thank you so much for posting this!

  • Loved it, thank you, another addition to my Bates archive.

  • the music spoils it. doesn't work. you lose the feel of the sonnet to the music - which is too loud and out of cadence with the poet.

    peace.
