@Duckhunterrt17 Firstly, black bears are not more agressive, they are more common thus resulting in higher interaction with human or even peoples pets resulting in high fatality and injury rates. Black bears are omnivores, spend a lot of time eating grass and fish and are very limited in combat against a cougar due to shorter front legs than hind legs. you know what probably happened after the video at 0:40 The alpha male and the rest of the pack came and destroyed that cougar and that is why wolves are dominant.
Here's the point: if you think that either bears, cougars or wolves are THE apex predator with nothing to fear you're ignorant. One on one, brown bear is dominant then cougar then grey wolf. But these are all apex predators. Wolves have been documented as killing both cougars and bears. Cougars have reportedly killed wolves and black bears, but house dogs have certainly attacked and driven cougars away. And btw, a grizzly can snap a cougar's or wolf's neck with a swipe. They're all badasses!
What really makes me laugh about this video is that some of the footage of the cougar driving away a wolf is actually taken from footage where the wolf ultimately wins! It's on youtube under "wolf dominance." The wolf being killed and face off with the bear are from a tv show that was exposed by the Denver post and a St. Louis station as being a fraud. They sickeningly set up fight scenes and fabricated the crap to make a show.
one on one a cougar would own a wolf because a wolf uses only its mouth while a cougars fangs and even just its claws alone can be deadly and it was demonstrated pretty clearly in the first part the way it grabbed the wolf and tossed it around. In the case of the grizzly the grizzly never took the cougar serious. He approached it in play mode and when the cougar bit down hard he knocked it to the floor with a shoulder check, grizzly would have manhandled it easy if it wanted to.
k... from what i know.. cougars dont bother fighting bears cause they need to be in peak condition being a solitary hunter. So a cougar probably will not attack a grizzly. Large cats do not encounter polar bears, who are the only full-on carnivorous bears on the planet. Most bears are foragers and not hunters. A male grizzly could easily beat the living shit out of a puma and throw it around like a rag doll, but since grizzlies are not out to eat puma meat, they avoid the fight. As a hunter I actually love cougars...It's my dream to see a wild one some day in the woods...not to hunt...but to just see. "tame" cougars in cages are so sad for me... they have no fire in their eyes, they seem dead inside.

Blackbears are more foriging and eat your garbage type bears. Ive had them come very close to me multiple times and not attack (they are less ferocious then many other types of bears. Say what you will, but where is the footage of a cougar vs a giant kodiak anyway?...there is none because the fight doesnt last that long.

@Duckhunterrt17 Firstly, black bears are not more agressive, they are more common thus resulting in higher interaction with human or even peoples pets resulting in high fatality and injury rates. Black bears are omnivores, spend a lot of time eating grass and fish and are very limited in combat against a cougar due to shorter front legs than hind legs. In reference to my post, please explain how a 200lb lion takes out 1500lbs of kodiak? Finally, 100kg solid makes nice meat for a kodiak :)

All reported incidents of cougars vs bears ends in the cougar winning. A few incidents include stubborn bears being killed after the cougar injures them too greatly, at which point the cougar takes the chance to cause a lethal injury to the veins in the neck which cause the bear to bleed to death.
In one incident a Siberian Tiger broke out of it's cage and wound up in a bears cage. The bear was brutally killed in a one sided fight against the largest cat in the world.

Fact check, brah: cougars tend to avoid building their dens in areas settled by wolf packs. If a puma ever encounters a lone wolf, it's likely a weak and/or sickly omega that was exiled from its pack.

I'm not saying it's common but unless its with cubs cougars are opportunity hunters, if a wolf happens to stray too close or a cougar come upon it it's done. That applies to an 'alpha', though it wouldn't be separate from it's pack so that doesn't really apply; but my point is the largest wolves don't come close to matching the size of grown pumas.
So to the wolf fanatic I'm saying that no, lone wolves can't kill cougars anymore than cougars could kill grizzlies or kodiaks.

Either way, you're dead wrong about pumas eating wolves. African lions, which are much larger than pumas, don't even eat hyenas, leopards, cheetahs, or any smaller species of predator they kill, and the size difference between them is far greater than that between wolves and pumas.

Here's the point: if you think that either bears, cougars or wolves are THE apex predator with nothing to fear you're ignorant. One on one, brown bear is dominant then cougar then grey wolf. But these are all apex predators. Wolves have been documented as killing both cougars and bears. Cougars have reportedly killed wolves and black bears, but house dogs have certainly attacked and driven cougars away. And btw, a grizzly can snap a cougar's or wolf's neck with a swipe. They're all badasses!

What really makes me laugh about this video is that some of the footage of the cougar driving away a wolf is actually taken from footage where the wolf ultimately wins! It's on youtube under "wolf dominance." The wolf being killed and face off with the bear are from a tv show that was exposed by the Denver post and a St. Louis station as being a fraud. They sickeningly set up fight scenes and fabricated the crap to make a show.

one on one a cougar would own a wolf because a wolf uses only its mouth while a cougars fangs and even just its claws alone can be deadly and it was demonstrated pretty clearly in the first part the way it grabbed the wolf and tossed it around. In the case of the grizzly the grizzly never took the cougar serious. He approached it in play mode and when the cougar bit down hard he knocked it to the floor with a shoulder check, grizzly would have manhandled it easy if it wanted to.

k... from what i know.. cougars dont bother fighting bears cause they need to be in peak condition being a solitary hunter. So a cougar probably will not attack a grizzly. I'm not saying a cougar can't intimidate a grizzly, but im saying it probably wont give it a try. But a female with young might, but i doubt it will kill a large boar, but it may intimidate it. as for blacks, i believe cougars prey on them.

Large cats do not encounter polar bears, who are the only full-on carnivorous bears on the planet. Most bears are foragers and not hunters. A male grizzly could easily beat the living shit out of a puma and throw it around like a rag doll, but since grizzlies are not out to eat puma meat, they avoid the fight. Trust me, if ANY big cat ever encountered a hungry polar bear, the cat would lose the battle every time.

I say "healthy" because I am aware of the declawed, drugged animals that were killed by Dogos. But an intact Cat in there, and it's bye bye Fido.

@ainulindale27 You are mistaking larger number with intelligence. They can drive a Cougar away, because the Cougar is a solitare animal that can't risk injury. Felines are far more intelligent that canines. The fact that the Cougar is smart enough not to fight when the odds are stacked against him, is a testament to his intelligence. Also, the cat doesn't have great endurance like a canine, so they won't waste energy in a hopeless situation.

Their ability to recognize cues or body language is unrivaled outside of humans. They understand complex emotions like jealousy, have the ability to deceive, & collect information about individuals in a manner that only primates do. They've learned the meanings of 340 words & can even interpret phrases.

It would go well for cougar to do the same; being more powerful they wouldn't have their kills taken as often. Yet, watching wolves steal kills from larger predators is obviously not by numbers as they don't all attack the predator; they surround it egging it on, drawing it to chase after them and tiring it out. Now that's intelligence. Strategic teamwork.

Just as a lone wolf would never attack a cougar on its own terms. Though cats are a more intelligent than they are given credit for, and their solitary nature has also made a reputation for them being less intelligent than they are, canines are just more complex and smarter.

As a hunter I actually love cougars...It's my dream to see a wild one some day in the woods...not to hunt...but to just see. "tame" cougars in cages are so sad for me... they have no fire in their eyes, they seem dead inside.

a grizzly is way to strong for a cougar, so a cougar will never kill or attack a grizzly, the cougar however is a cat and it defends its youngs agressivly and the bear rather go for a easier meal.
its true brown bear kill tigers and tigers kill bears. but in those cases the attacker of both species were males, and the victims were injured or females.
The tiger attacks mostly for food. the bear kills a tiger mostly for carcasses or defending its territory.

You guys are dumb. Look at the mass and size difference. An adult male grizzly averages 950 lbs and can reach 1700 lbs and measure 10 feet from nose to tail. Cougars are at most 250 lbs and 7 foot long. Imagine a Cougar that equaled the weight/mass of a grizzly... that would one gigantic cat. A grizzly wouldnt stand a chance, honestly.

Tigers will only on rare occations take Bear cubs if the mother does not have controll, just like wolfes. And on VERY rare occations they can kill very small adults (yearlings and mostly hybernating Bears). Siberian Tigers do not go near a grown Brown Bear, and certainly do not try to take its kill. Tigers dont dear to fight a grown Brown Bear face to face.

Thank you, koobsw. I'm not saying a bear wants to fight mountain lions, it doesn't. But when it comes down to it, an adult grizzly would win. It might hurt it by biting or scratching around its face, but it would be able to make any sort of killing move, if it bit the bear around its neck or throat, it'd just get a mouthful of hair. Granted that it could get close enough to the bear's throat to bite it, which I doubt.

cougars are bad ass but There is no way a cougar can Kill an adult male grizz. dont be ridiculous thats just foolish. its teeth and claws couldnt even penetrate a grizzly's fat layers to cause any damage.

Cougars close 2 the ground takes away that strength advantage.A bear swipe on all 4s isn't half as effective down low.Plus the cougar is quickier& can manuver around better.With big prey like bison the blow w 1 paw-YES.The cougar also goes for the bear's weak spots nose,muzzle,and eyes.Hit those areas with the claws it's like a man getting kicked in the balls.Not to say the cougar will always win but most of the time they are able to make the grizzly think twice about fucking with a cougar.

A cougar doesn't stand a chance against a bear if the bear would want to kill or to maul the cougar it will,ussualy they avoid serious battles resuming to bluffs or sparring, serious injuries from a fight can cripple the animal and it couldn't hunt and eat anymore

Just because a bear loses to a cougar once in a while or whatever doesn't mean you can cry about it. Why does it matter this much to you? This goes to the individual who called me retarded. The cougar is not to quick to be killed by that grizzly. That bear can easily kill the cougar if he wanted to. You are stupid to underestimate a bear agility. He can kill it very easily by the swipe of his paw. Don't be such a fool and an idiot. An African lion or tiger can kill that cat so easy.
