  • Hi, I am really impressed by your set up here :-)

I would like to ask though do you use a square or rectangular tarp for this design? Im new to camping so this is all still a bit of a mistery for me haha

Thanks and keep up the good videos

  • How much does that weigh?

    Thanks

  • This is nice, but you really didnt show how to stake out the tarp to have that shape / underlap. Kind of key to the presentation, yes? Thank you for your videos, not trying to be a jerk!

  • How the hell did i get here from TYT?

  • Hi, just wondering what kind of pegs you use. I just want something somewhat "traditional looking" without going with wood, because I also need them to be rugged and dependable. Thanks!

  • Whats the size of the poles and the tarp? Very good job Sir :)

  • Best reviews of Instant Tent

  • Can I ask the title of this music that played in the video? It fits the video so nicely!

Great video too! Inspire me to modify my 10.5' square tarp to create more type of tarp tent! Keep up the good work!

  • Hi, great video! I'm planning a test with my BOB, and I have a very large tarp (it's a 10' by 17' tarp), and your idea to make such a tent is a great idea! I just had 1 question: how big is your tarp?

    Grtz, mandgsurvival

  • Great video !!

  • I just can't see how the two poles are staying up -- why don't they fall to the front or the back?

  • @Fratern8 because they are wedged so that the tent pegs hold the tarp and the tarp holds up the sticks :) balance is a beautiful thing!!

  • were can i buy one of those tarps

  • Can you explain how you staked the base of the tent down. Did you move the front holes back?

  • couldnt you just use one stick on the inside?

  • did you your own guy ropes on the middle of the tarp or did it come with them sown in already?

    good video NW woodman

    cheers

  • fuckin sick man!

  • Thats mint! Nice skills man. Cheers

  • that hatchet/hammer weighs more than my 10 foot nylon ripstop dome tent with a covered entry and rain fly. can erect it alone in about three minutes. no bugs light weight and dry tooi

  • "Basic tarp" my ass, you have that thing stitched and all kinds of weird stuff

  • can ship one of those to Brazil? If you can, Im in for one, seriously!!

  • No problem. Just order one on my website and I will have it in the mail today.

  • how did you end up with those tucked inside parts? went a bit too quick for me. did you peg down the back corners on the shortest or longest side. looks great

  • Where would I find a tarp with the ties (lines) attached as you have?

  • love it, what are the dimensions of that tarp sir?

  • dear reader , you may message me via this site

or look up WAP-Tek via any search engine

    if you have questions about

how to deal with being homeless

  • Hi Just wondering what type of backpack/bag that appears in the first 10 seconds of the clip. It looks great!

    Dale

  • What size canvas is that and what kind of space is on the inside?

  • Is there any way you can have a fire in that style of configuration? If so, please explain. Thank you, Michael

  • Eh, I like survivor mans version of the tarp, he uses a water proof tarp and nothin' but branches and twigs.

  • :52 seconds on he smashes his finger hammering in a rod.

  • Tarps 9 x 12 guys. Great set up

  • man im missing summer up here in south dakota

  • How big is your tarp?

  • Anyone know how big this tarp is?

  • Now that's pretty cool.

  • Canvas tarps rock ! ... last forever, not like those cheap shitty plastic things.

  • Love the video ! Great Job !

  • Really liked the tarp tent idea. But the cost of canvas was over the top for me, so I made my own. Only have a picture of it. How could I share that with you in stead of a video? campergal54

  • cool never thought of puttin the frame on the outside nice idea

  • excellent!

  • dude you should do some pack reviews im thinking about picking up the bushcrafter but i would like to see a review on it for sure....thanks....ss13.

  • Nice bag, is that a Duluth?

  • I don't understand why the 2 poles are so stable?

  • @dmehling It is stable with 2 poles because he pitches it tight. The taunt canvas prevents wobble.

  • Is that a canvas tarp? A: Where can you get those any more without going to a western supply store and paying an arm and a leg. andB: Why would you use one of them them instead of a modern and cheap tarp that is more water proof and does'nt take forever to dry?

  • whast the size on that tarp?

  • Hard core, old school, awesome...enough said.

  • IT'S A TARP!!!!!

  • I love tarp tenting!

  • thinking of buying one ... his website,,,reads " My store is temporarily closed until Fall " ??? what month is that.... a confused Aussie..

  • @sheepsfoot2 October maybe? That's fall to me here in Pennsylvania.

  • @zebratruck thanks mate..

  • I will use a rock not an axe, but what's the different ;P

  • Nice setup

  • owchy at 0:52 you hit your hand

  • GOOD

  • what size tarp are u using cus whn i tryed it with mine it wasnt big anuf ??

  • man, that looks like a good tent.

but on a cold night, and it catches an underdraft you'll wish you hadn't left your bed that morning.

  • @wevor4tard if ur worried about a underdraft jst cover the bottom part of the tent with leaves and such

  • question, the synthetic version. is it as durable? like the ties arent going to rip off are they? iv been looking into getting a better tarp right now im just using a 8' by 10' construction tarp

  • Bad ass !!!! This video reminds me other ones I have seen where you use a support stick in the middle to make the roof but I like this a lot better, seems a lot more rugged.. What is that tarp made out of canvas ? This makes me want to get a tarp to throw in the back of my truck just incase it is needed !!

  • that is NOT your basic tarp! in fact! its a specially made one just for that purpose! Try that with a standard tarp?

  • Awesome set-up. Does your Tex tex tarp come in a green or brown. Not a big fan of the white.

  • I like it and did look up the synthetic version.

    Thanks

  • What is the size of the tarp? Great design.

  • Man where was the mule/horse to haul that thing. A nylon tent would be lighter, LOL. But I love a good tarp. Thanks

  • I only use the canvas tarp on solo canoe trips; otherwise I use a synthetic version of the same tarp on hiking trips.

  • @nwwoodsman I've been planning to set up two sets of gear, 1 for ultralight backpacking and the other for canoe trips. Glad to see someone who has already done it.

  • @nwwoodsman What size tarp did you use for this? What was the spacing for the ground pins?Thank you,Griz

  • Looks like a great rig.

  • What do you do about ticks.

  • I want to see more detail.... what size and kind of tarp is it? how did you modified it to be set up for tent ? I saw you stoke down the edges and all four corners, but missed how you got the center large enough to stand tall like that? How many tarps did you use?

  • Do you carry around those 2 big poles for the tarp tent?

  • thats no basic tarp that thing is purpose made

  • right, but you could easily take a regular poly-tarp and modify it to do the exact same thing just by adding a couple of tie points. or you could make one out of silnylon for about the same weight as a couple of his stakes.

  • @MrEarthmover

if u know how to do it, you can sew the tabs and stuff on yourself on a normal plastic tarp

but yeah, thats a fancy tarp (heavy though)

  • Nice tarp video. 5/5

  • W Tarp Tent !!!

  • Stará dobrá klasika :-) 5/5

  • Are you using a canvas tarp? It doesnt look or sound like a poly tarp.

  • Great video and store, I'm from Seattle but stuck down here in San Diego. Thanks for reminding me of home my friend.

  • Proof that you don't need plastic to go camping. That's a nice set up.

  • This is the best tarp info i have ever seen.Thats a great kit.thanks joe

  • That is one awesome tarp setup!

    5/5

  • Boy, I wish my basic tarp could do all that. I got ripped off, all it does is look square.

  • That's one strong tarp and stakes kit.

I am not sure what my back would say to a heavy cotton tarp and a set of iron stakes though. I would require a pack horse for heavy gear like this.

  • Great video, man, but the music is horrible! I was on the verge of moving on several times, but I found it interesting so I continued watching.

  • thanks for not giving us the limey bushcraft bulls**t ,what a great video .you should make more.regards

  • I liked this video a great deal and hope you sell a lot of them. There are many purists out there like yourself who like "roughing it". The canvas tarp set up with the campfire in front would make for a comfortable nights sleep. You can't do that with a silnylon tarp or store bought tent. Hats off to you for this video friend. thank you and best regards. :)

  • Hey, that's really smart. Loved it. Thanks-Sarah

  • Cool, what's the song btw?

  • great video, thanks for sharing. would love to see more if you have the interest

  • hey my man, what size and/or type of drop canvas did you use? Did you add the d-rings or did it come with it? About how much weight does it add to your pack? What is that tarp pypically used for? Do you think this would work with a poly tarp? And last but not least, how much did you pay? I know I left you alot of questions but I have searched everywhere for a how to on tipi tarp style shelters

  • me likey

  • Very tidy

  • Love it! great setup and great spot looks brilliant, waatched this video about 4 times!

  • Awesome!

  • Nice footage, great clarity. What camera were you using and what settings? Were you filming in widescreen?

    Thanks, Laurie

  • I use a Panasonic GS 500 with a 3033 Bogen tripod. Most of my filming is by myself so everything on the camera is set to automatic and in widescreen.

  • I enjoyed watching the set up but I do so dearly enjoy having a completely sealed tent and floor. I don't like strange things crawling on me in the night. Plus, I like to be better prepared for rain. I wonder how that would do in the rain? It looks very strong for wind.

  • an easy way to prevent all those creepy crawlies from visiting u in ur sleep is..... a hammock! just set up ur tarp in an

A frame setup or lean to... string ur hammock underneath and put in ur sleeping bag of wool blanket like i do... its not only more comfy but takes up less room than a big fat bivy with a sleeping pad and bag.. not too mention this will allow u to have nice access to the forest rather than being closed off in a tent!

  • Or a seperate lightwieght cheap tarp for the floor, much like the tipis used. Personaly i feel its worth the extra wieght for a small 2-4 person dome tent. While the tent is heavier then a tarp its is well worth the little wieght for to have a complete set up all area and i usually camp with at least my dog. To keep him as well as everything else dry and mosquito/bug free is well worth it.

  • i know what u mean... to each their own

  • that tarp would keep you dry, what are you talking about?

  • Can a tree be used to hold up the centre?

  • Absolutely, that would be the fastest way to set it up if you didnt plan on having a fire in front.

  • Yea, nice and comfy if your camping in an area with no mosquitos or creepy crawler chiggers on the ground. Then if you wait until the first frost comes, most of the bugs disappear, but what about the cold draft comming up under sides of this rig of tent. Have to admit to the simplicity of the set up though. Enjoyed the music. Thanks.

  • Very nice! I'm sure it's much lighter to carry than my canvas setup. I have a 15'x20' canvas I sometimes use as a ti pi. I rub it down every couple of years or so with tung oil to keep it nicely waterproof and windproof.

  • I like that set up. Will try that this weekend. My tarp is 7ft6" x 8ft 3". Should be intereseting to see how much room I have.

    Thanks

    Sean the Silver Fox

  • hi sean let me know what the result is,thanks brian.

  • I called Dave Ellis and he said that he was gonna make some of these tarps up but that I should contact you about them. I would like one so if you would please let me know when you get some.

  • No problem. If you could send us an e-mail I will let you know when they come in.

  • That is the best tarp set up that I have seen. I set it up in the backyard with a plastic tarp. I couldnt believe how stable it was! Thank you for the video.

  • Beautiful!

  • Canvas is more waterproof than nylon & also ten times more durable. Turpentine & parafin mixed properly can be ironed into canvas & I have an old book that tells how to do it.We used canvas tents for years & years on Georgian Bay Bass Hole trips & we still have them but seldom use them anymore. Very heavy.I used to make a lot of camping gear as a hobby & have an Alaskan Pack Frame made of solid oak, canvas & rawhide.I also have a lot of antique books on camping gear & wilderness living.

  • is the tarp water proof

  • what size is the tarp?

    great video!!!

  • It is a 9' x 12'

  • where abouts can you buy it from and is it canvas?

    cheers

  • We will be selling them on the website.

  • Neat.

  • great idea for dry climates, but you would need another tarp for the ground in wet climates.
