  • I just learned how to tomahawk stop last night. I kept stopping half way through the spin because my left leg wasn't cooperating. xD

  • You mean your not supposed to stop by rolling into the wall? (Yes, I'm joking.)

Am I the only one that has a hard time doing a t-stop with my right foot dragging? I started derby training two weeks ago and one of the instructors mentioned most people have a hard time using their left like I do. (I'm left handed.. maybe that's got something to do with it?)

  • be my personal trainer! :D

  • genial video!! no ovidar usar protecciones!! yo me quise hacer lacanchera y estuve con una peloa en la muñequa toda na semana!!

  • Lol my first roller skates were like that and I used to stop the tomahawk way the other way round and hit the floor lol

  • How do I stop with Agressif Rollers?

  • i actually found the t stop to be harder. especially on a hard wood floor.

  • your way of snow plow is not how u should do one, because you need to have control of 1 leg. you should look at other snow plow videos so u know how to really do one

  • Does anybody know where I can watch live derby games online?

  • @kriptonitekaya derbynewsnetwork

  • @kriptonitekaya you can watch live games on derbynewnetwork (dot) com

  • @extraviMaddie1234 Sweet thank you :) I have joined roller derby and wanted to watch some games

  • As a fresh meat Derby Skater, I wanted to thank you soo much for your videos! They are soo helpful! Your explanations are wonderful and very much appreciated!! Keep em coming!

  • I just used to grab the first lamppost i came across to stop in rollerskates or skate into a bush.

  • that tomahawk just blew my mind

  • This was the last usefull video in the series, but this is really well done, I appreciate the time you took to make this and post it, the way you describe the movements is helpful. =)

  • Nice little video, but in the old roller derby the skates didn't use toe stops. Mike Gammon could use a "hocky stop", which he could slide to a stop on the sides of his wheels, like ice skates. Its hard to do, but he did it all the time. You can screw your ankles up .Keep in mind that when you're coming down out of the bank at 35 mph, that "t" stop is usually what to use, though its more of a drag the hell out of your hind skate. The derby has become a joke. But thanks for the video!

  • Nothing beats the powerslide way of stopping.

Its effective at high speeds, looks awesome and makes a lot of noise :D

can't be done on derby wheels though; they have too much grip XD

  • @hezbag0311 don't talk rubish everyone skates on different wheels

  • @brikel "Don't talk rubbish?" thats really rude. yeah, everyone skates on different wheels but not everyone powerslides. I've tried many times on derby skates and they don't slide; which is good for turning at high speeds without slipping or losing your speed.

  • @hezbag0311 i'm not being rude i was just pointing out that you were talking rubish, the reason you probably can't do a powerslide is because you are skating the wrong wheels, if the are too grippy they are no good for derby as you use too much energy to push so they slow you down. saying derby wheels are too grippy is a newbie comment, i have at least 6 sets of wheels for all the different surfaces i bout on, they range from rock hard but really slippy to stick like shit to a blanket

  • loved that last stop.. very rad!

  • ooh my god she looked totally cool doing the hamababa stop or whatever it's called XD

  • you're awesome

  • loved the camera angle in the last shot!

  • does she have fabric over her toes on her skates??

  • @monkeyjunki it's duct tape.

  • @msJumbie where can you get duck tape that looks like that?

  • @monkeyjunki most hardware/craft stores. or walmart.

  • tears alot on the rubber wheels....ALOT...

  • whoa i just saw whip it (why im watchin this vid) and drew barrymore is in commercial! haha

  • maybe its just because she is going so slow, but those have to be the worst forms of those stops I have seen. a T stop should not be using all for wheels down on the back foot. if your inside wheels are down you could pull and break your ankle. consider going 10 times faster than she was. and the snow plow you should never end up with your feet so close together at the end, you just fall over on your face when going fast.

  • @slings4u Those point are more relevant to bank track roller derby. Skaters are moving at WAY slower speeds on flat tracks.

  • @CamTheCat not really. those points are spot on for a flat track player.

  • @slings4u Yeah, helpful points for sure, but what I was saying is that bank track is often faster than flat track. There are times - like at slower speeds - when what she demonstrated was spot on. I agree with you that at faster speeds a different demonstration and execution would be appropriate. Yes, these points in the video are spot on for a flat track player.

  • chrstilen5: you can't use Rollerblades in Derby!

  • @chrstilen5 only referees use rollerblades in derby, quads are required for the players

  • A T stop, despite the name should not actually form a T. Your back foot should be behind your weighted skate at 45 degrees. This keeps all your wheels rolling, thus use the whole wheel. If your back skate is perpendicular to your weighted skate you only use only part of the wheel, which will create a flat spot. Even a small flat spot on any wheel will slowly form into a larger one. You will not stop any slower and your wheels won't get ruined.

  • pls pls speak in my language

  • That last stop was nifty =D

  • @JadedBurnout I like that you used the word nifty....It's such a fun word. XD

  • I have a pair of very old but somewhat expensive Chicago quad roller skates that I bought in 1980. I need to buy some replacement wheels but I'm not sure what to buy exactly have been out of the skating scene for a while. I don't want to spend much more than 50 or 60 bucks if possible. Any recommendations from any experts out there?

  • You won't find much in the way of good skates at that price. Not even decent "cheap skates."

Don't buy anything from Chicago or Roller Derby brand skates. Those are junk skates aimed at children. Riedell and Sure-Grip make good skates for general use skating.

  • Poobah: Thanks for the advice. I already own the Chicago skates. While not the top of the line skates of today, they were best of the best in 1980. They're just fine for now. I needed only to buy some wheels and I did. I just received them several days ago. I purchased a set of Riedell Flat Outrageous wheels. Should I start skating frequently, I will invest in a new pair of top of the line quality skates. But for now, these will have to do. Thanks again.

  • Poobah: Part 2 - FYI - Just out of curiosity, I took a look on Ebay for skates. I saw my exact pair only a size smaller. Vintage Chicago Skates asking $99.00 bucks. Mine are in better shape than the Ebay seller.

And your right about Chicago skates. I looked at the Chicago skates available today and they're all crap.

  • haha I tired the t stop and fell over on my ass, lots of fun.

  • Something that no one told me when I first started was that T-stops are SUPPOSED to make that horrible noise.

  • The last shot was a great angle. Props to camera man.

  • i tryed that an fell flat on my face!!!!! TT^TT ... *but i was going really fast...* gravity hates me TT^TT

  • Kinda missed the circle stop...which is almost like the tomahawk.

  • i thought she did a great job on all stops except the snow-plow.

  • 0:45, se re cagó...

  • lol

  • very nice and very helpful

    thanks from INDIA

  • the tomahawk stop is the proper way to stop on these types of skates :o

  • dat last move was awesome!!

  • i play derby and the last one is also called a turn-around-and-stop. it is he hardest to learn but really fun to do once u can do it right! it tok me 3 months to learn it!!!

  • We call them "suicides," lol

  • yeah, you need to something with your outfit!!

  • lol

  • The tomahawk I see some say is a suicide stop. but a suicide stop includes a jump!

  • The tomahawk is bad-ass.

  • thank you for takin the time to do these vids. They are very helpful!

  • The last one was cool.

  • The last stop was cute.

  • Ah, we call the last one a Suicide Stop.

  • That last one looked really cool!

  • The snowplow is the most effective roller derby stop because it is much harder to know someone over when they are in a snow plow. With the T-stop all of your weight is on one foot and your center of gravity is higher. It is more useful than the tomahawk because you can slow down in front of someone when you are blocking and it is hard for them to get around you.

  • robocop rollerblading

  • The pads are standard roller derby pads, they are required in the WFTDA handbook. They are used for intentional falling.

  • I would think she doesn't have rollerblades because derby requires quads.

  • these are great litle instructional videos! Thank you & well done! Keep 'em coming!!
