Bobby was physically exhausted when I shook hands & spoke with him for the last time. He was winding up his campaign with a whirwind schedule the day before the CA Primary when we met briefly, in San Francisco. He was so fatigued from the 85 days of nonstop campaigning that this hands shook. I wished him well, telling him we'd get the vote out for him the next day. He smiled wanly, thanked me & returned to the campaign. The next night, in L.A., Thane Caesar shot him to death. I miss him.
His death avoided positive change. Instead of the end of Vietnam and a burst of energy, we got Nixon, 5 more years of Nam and Watergate. No protection back then for candidates.
RFK is one of my greatest heroes. He so obviously cared for ALL the people of the United States. It was more important to him that our country heal and grow, than any ideal of political greatness. R.I.P. Bobby!
I agree. I think Bobby was the greatest political figure we've ever had. The man had heart and cared about people and he actually wanted to make things better. He didn't care about the glory, he was all about getting things done.
