  • "quiet you pheasants!"

  • "The Hellenic look, with the Grecian contour". The marks did not even realize that Hellenic and Grecian mean the same thing.

  • Grecian contour! I've GOT to use that in a sentence sometime!

  • This guy was amazing!!

  • Prowrestlings original entertainer..I could watch this guy all day felt like i was watching a t.v. sitcom show.Check out his website owned by the famous Poffo wrestling family.

  • the human orchid

  • classic footage thank you so much for this

  • Was this back in the 1940s?

  • Today, Gorgeous George's first wife, Betty George, passed away. She almost lived a whole century at 98 years old. She was older than my grandmother.

  • Valet? Dont you mean Vallay?

  • so innovative... this was at a time when people just got in there and showed some moves they learned at wrestling school... at the most they would growl and act mean... but he thought to use that ring to create spectables... because of that, no one is more influential than he is... wrestling would be completely different if he had never been a part of it

  • what's the name of the announcer on the mic talking about Gorgeous George....the guy with the glasses . I like him when he is talking during the match he's good and the way he says "Oh Brother" is funny when George is in the ring.

  • all the guys in the audience man......They must have all died or must be 90 to 100 years old right now..... Man......

  • george wagner was the best of his craft.the art of ring psychology.the original was a midwest wrestler known as lord patrick landsdowne.although george may have lifted the act,he perfected it!even muhammed ali consulted george for guidance in this art.should have been inducted in the hall of fame years ago.

  • Any footage of Larry the Axe Henning ?

  • @TripleH4751 Back when I posed this comment he wasn't.

  • so many people ripped his persona, not just in the wrestling world either

  • It beats looking at George the animal Steele.

  • He drank his paycheck, fathered kids out of wedlock and his wife,is a Jehovahs Witness.

  • does someone kno how old this is???

  • wow , he was a great wrestler and a great gimmick

  • This is where it all started with the beautiful robes and the blonde hair, I love it. :D

  • @Lovelygal71 This is where entertainment in wrestling started period

  • @chopshec2 yep, that's true.

  • yea i know my grandfather has told me about him wrestling and his dad wrestling

  • Was that Vince McMahon @ 4:49 - 4:52 lol?

  • this is my great grandfather i happen to be zach wagner my grandfather is gogous george jr. we live in tn

  • @lilcat1407 That is awesome dude. I mean really, not a lot of people can say that their great grandfather was a professional wrestler and a WWE Hall of Famer.

  • Ah, the start of one of the best gimmicks in wrestling history. This is classic, and it worked well back in those days.

  • @ShaolinDynasty.

    so you got german roots.

  • Long ago, mama caught one of his "gold" bobby pins he threw from the ring to the audience.

  • No such thing as being gayy back then??

  • @narutoisthegayest In George's case, he was using it as a gimmick. He was actually married to women multiple times. In fact, one of his ex-wives accompanied him to the ring for awhile.

  • Commentator: Gorgeous says just wait I'm not ready. Oh Brother lol

Commentator: He turns to the crowd and says quiet you peasents. lol

Comemtator: lol on the brake he messed up Gorgeous hair lol

  • theres was him there was buddy rogers then flair then hbk WHOS NEXT and dont forget ricky starr also also not only ali but he gg influenced james brown the godfather of soul also

  • I think also gorgeous george put on the best show also be4 the match and the tricks he did also in the match were classic.

  • I will say George Wagner known as gorgeous george is one of the best heels of all time he get that started better then any and layed a road for all the other pretty boys like Ric Flair ,Shawn Micheals ,Jimmy Garvin ,Adrian Street ,Adrian Adonis he layed a road of all of them.

  • there would be no Buddy Rogers, Ric Flair, ect. if there was no Gorgeous George!

GG changed the pro wrestling buisness FOREVER!!!

  • He was a showman. He motivated people to buy tickets in hopes of seeing being beaten. Did I say showman? He was a very successful showman.

  • jobber25v

Gorgeous George had a bigger impact on wrestling than Warrior.

Shitloads of guys who deservs to be in HOF weeeeeell before Warrior

  • @SolidMike84 He's in. He was inducted as part of the Class of 2010.

  • shut up bitch !

  • BEST WRESTLER EVER! Finally, the WWE recognizes.

  • The announcer for this segment appears to be Robert Q. Lewis. Robert, the Q initial was made up, went on to become a very popular tv host and panelist. The horn rimmed glasses were his trademark.

BTW, Dennis James, started out as a TV wrestling announcer in the early days of TV too.

  • Commentator: George says do not touch my robes there is no oil on me I'm powdered to perfection.

    Commentator: Oh Brother. lol

That is funny I like how He tells the fans what George is saying.

  • now thats oldshool

  • Gorgeous George will be in the 2010 hall of fame-congratulations!!

  • it's about damn time

  • WWE Needs to put him in the Hall Of Fame.

  • @geneva1999 Then I think you'll be pleased this year!

  • Just announced today WWE will put Gorgeous George into the 2010 Hall of Fame

  • @geneva1999

He is indeed being put in the hall of fame!

  • @geneva1999 Ask and ye shall receive. He's going to be announced as a WWE Hall of Famer tonight on Raw. His former wife, Betty Wagner, will accept the honor on his behalf.

  • @geneva1999 hey he was put in the hall of fame.you happy

  • They will put him in the WWE HOF. they announced it last night on RAW.

  • Glad to see WWE finally put him in. I loved that old Bugs Bunny Cartoon that his character was in. I think he was the very first Pro Wrestler to become truly famous nation wide. Until the Internet I (and probably a lot of people) belevied in the rumour that he died young cause he use to paint his hair gold and the lead paint sunk into his skin - kind of like in that one James Bond movie. And he one painted a giant live turkey gold and walked with it to the ring.

  • @geneva1999 he is

  • @geneva1999 he is lol!

  • @geneva1999 they now have!!!a few weeks ago

  • @geneva1999 who? george or larry? because if your talking about George then they already did

  • @quentina08 Was talking about George ....back when I made the comment he was not in the HOF yet. He should have been in the first class - year one.

  • @geneva1999 he is ???? -.-

  • @Djdridz He is the father of the heel gimmick!

  • @09vendeta09 He is the grandfather of gimmicks!

  • @Djdridz Are you 11 years old because i used tytiana1999

  • @geneva1999 They have,

  • @geneva1999 Thanks that means alot to me since he is my great grandfather but might i correct you he is in the hall of fame already.

  • @lilcat1407 Back when I posed this comment (1 year ago) he wasn't in the HOF yet, so no corrections to my comment are needed.

  • @geneva1999 and they did :D

  • @geneva1999 they put

  • @geneva1999

    they did

  • he is a hall of famer

  • @hassancooking My post is over a year and half old; he wasn't in the HOF at the time of my post. I've also been posting for a few years for Macho Man to be in the HOF.

  • @geneva1999 he is

  • The Gorgeous One made professional wrestling.

  • Now that's how you get heat.

  • Gorgeous George was the Liberace of wrestling.

  • Gorgeous George was the Thomas Edison of pro wrestling. GG instinctively knew that the wrestling itself had become the least exciting, albiet still necessary, part of the match. Without him, Pro Wrestling may have folded. GG always = 6 out of 5 stars. No GG = no Cassius Clay.

  • @lumpagogo Ali even admitted to copping his style from the Gorgeous One. "Thomas Edison of Professional Wrestling" is such a wonderful way of putting it. He is indeed the great innovator. If he is Edison, then Graham is Ford. Those are the two great creators in my book. Great comment, lumpagogo!

  • Dr Jerry Graham. Personal faves are Gorgeous George + George "The Animal: Steele. And no man could strut like the Fabulous Moolah!

  • I saw him about 1950 or so +/- a year or two.

    Also Argentina Rocco.

  • perfect mixture of theatrics and wrestling

  • wrestling is theatrics too.

  • yes but partially. And i think George was a trendsetter as he thought out of the box

  • George Grant was not the one sued. Richard Phelps was sued by widow of Geo. Wagner for wrestling under name Gorgeouse george Jr.

G.Geo. Grant wresteled G. Geo. Wagner in

(I believe, Idaho) & it was billed as such.

I knew G. Grant and he stayed in my home several times. A fake ... No.

  • Thanks for putting this up, GoldenAge.

Do you or does anybody know the date of this match?

  • The TRUE first heel in pro wrestling

  • I recall Gorgeous George being spoofed on a Bugs Bunny cartoon one time. Does anyone remember that one ?

  • vaguely now that i think about it.

bugs bunny wrestled a bald wrestler in one cartoon, and i sort of remember a wrestler that looked a lot like gorgeous george, but dont remember if they portrayed him as a metrosexual or if he just had the hair.

  • Ravishing Ronald had a definate metrosexual feeling about him.

  • The Bugs Bunny episode is titled "Bunny Hugged", and the wrestler in the cartoon is named "Ravishing Ronald". One of my faves.

  • it's great because once I saw Gorgeous George for the first time, I realized where Rick Martel got... well, pretty much his entire gimmick. Including the "Arrogance" spray

  • Gorgeous George was one of THE most influential pro wrestlers EVER...he died broke the day after Christmas 1963 of a heart attack...

  • Pure Swag

  • toast of the coast.. the human orchid

    :-]

  • Absolute GENIUS! what an innovator! To play this kind of gimmick in the 50´s was a much greater challenge than it seems.

  • It was a gimmick, he got to the point where he made 80% of the gate, he was a genious, your a faggot, and he is currently an evangelist and a great man.

  • Actually George died in 1966

  • Gorgeous George Wagner died in 1963, Gorgeous Goerge Grant is still alive and kicking...I'm not sure which one this is to be honest.

  • Being that Gorgeous George Grant was a fake, who only wrestled briefly under the name before being sued by the real George, and dropping the gimmick, I'd say it doesn't matter if he's alive or not... Gorgeous George is dead. George Wagner, created, lived, perfected, and owned the gimmick, anyone else doing it at that time, should be ashamed of themselves, and so should their parishioners. BOOM-SHAKALAKA!!!!!!!!
