i remember this i was at a memorial day party and we were like fishing and all of the sudden the sirens went off they went off twice i think i wanted to go back to my house to get my ipad because i didn't want to loose it lol
i live in Oakland county and two funnel clouds spotted over my house and a tornado touched down 15 mins down the road i was outside on the trampoline when the sirens went off and i had to run home and go into the basement i live in highland 3 mins away from Milford road the sirens went off twice.
Actually, 60+ MPH can cause property damage. Such as Breaking big branches, blowing around object, and do some damages to homes. And I agree the media isn't all that great. Your better having a Certified Skywarn or NOAA personnel tell you instead of the news. :P
I remember that. 5 minutes before that went off was for a Sever Thunderstorm Warning. Then the second one was because the Warning was upgraded to a Tornado Warning.
They hyped this so bad and WDIV coverage had you thinking you had to be in a basement to survive this storm. When it blew through there was a 30MPH wind and it rained a little.
Even if so, 64mph winds aren't destructive. Would have resulted in some small branches down and a few power glitches The news media had us thinking 80-90mph winds were imminent. Media is in the business of scaring people. "Scary" storm coverage is great for ratings! And meteorology is a pseudo-science.
i know i was in the storm on that day i was camping at camp fullers crystal lake and it just was extremely windy that day a couple of widows broke though
Nothing even happened that day. There were no tornados or anything of the sort. Where I am all we got was a light shower! I think the weather people on the local news channels were being a bit overdramatic haha.
@LadyAshy Nothing happened... really??? Try telling that to the people in Shiawassee County that got hit by that EF1 tornado from this system, in which nothing happened. Or how about telling it to the many people who spotted rotation or funnel clouds not far west of Oakland County, or for that matter the two dozen plus reports of severe weather that were reported that day. Just because nothing happened within a 1 mile radius of you does not mean nothing happened period.
@LadyAshy i'm a storm chaser and something in fact did happen that day there was a EF1 tornado in shiawassee then there was also reports of tornadoes in other counties as well..heres the reports for that day
@RayAir1 Exactly. & what was making me laugh was how the weather guys kept repeating how, "Everyone should take shelter, stay inside & away from windows," & whatnot, but then start talking about how if you see anything (funnel clouds, trees down, maybe a cow flying through the air), to go outside, stand there, take some pictures, & email it to them.
Yeah. Let me go stand out in a downpour with lightening strikes every 10 seconds, & take some pics on my phone for ya. I'll get right on that!
@andersonvillas1277 We tend to get more Wall clouds than Tornadoes that carries a minimum of 60 MPH which our county policy states a siren must be sounded at 60+ MPH Wind or an F0+ or EF0+ Tornado.
Yeah I really liked
the video, it was
pretty dramatic. I
live in Lansing, Mi
and we got a nice
big thunderstorm that
day, sirens went off and
on and it was really rainy.
Battle Creek got hit hard
on that day.

Yes they were. They were using terms like "particularly dangerous situation" etc.
The media loves to scare people. WDIV had you thinking an F5 was coming.
