Wow, you would not know from this picutre that this brilliant musician was a struggling heroin addict until the day of his death. So sad, yet still such a beautiful story because of the music he created.
Laura was my mother's name. I remember that she told me my father would play this song when they were 'courting' (as they did in the early 1950's). I always think of her when I hear this because it's as beautiful as she was. I love and miss her so much...this is her song forever!
I'm amazed at this photo....I never thought of him as being good-looking.....what a goddam shame....narcotics dealers should be hung in public and left to rot as an example..
For some odd reason when I was young I thought it was cool that he died so young and looked twice his age when he died. Look how wrong you can be. A lot of musicians always fall into the same old trap. And a lot of kids think they are cool too.
Can you imagine..., you have this new, passionate, and universal art ... In the palaces of Europe and everywhere else, you are treated as royalty. While, in your own country, you are treated like dirt..., couldn't eat or sleep in the same hotels or restaurants as everyone else. Bird's reed was a cry for recognition in the form of art. It was heard around the world. Its message was simple: Only man is capable of producing art, and only the best can do it on the fly.
Classic...when music had a soul and depth that was connected to the magic of being alive...:) I believe this was in TAXI DRIVER with De Niro or they COPIED the sound and feel...worth checking>>>:)
If it wasn't for bird, I just can't imagine where we'd be. I can't imagine where I'd be. I remember the first time I heard him. It changed everything. Actually, it was like there was nothing until I heard Charlie Parker. Suddenly, I was home. Bird lives!
Here's what this recording means to me: I was in Manchester (U.K.) one dismal Friday evening after one (or one thousand) too many seemingly pointless days of working there, many miles from home.
I was riding the elevator/escalator in a department store. Each floor had its own piped music, or muzak. But when I approached the fifth floor, the sound of 'Laura' greeted me, as if Heaven-sent. Perhaps it was....

Superbe arrangement. Immense talent que celui de Charlie Parker. Il ne manque plus que Gene Tierney.

Qué inollvidable arreglo del gran Charlie Parker, Bird le da un toque más romántico con el saxo. Cuanta inspiración. Esta música no morirá nunca

the arrangement sux so bad, and yet, charlie still has the way to play the song ... master at work.
